Roger that. If Bujinkan was all that good they'd BE the Judo or BJJ champs. As it is they're a bunch of LARPers and Asiaphiliacs. http://www.bullshido.net/
As an avid Hong Kong cinema fan I've been looking forward to this game for quite some time. Unfortunatly it disappoints in almost all arenas.
Its clear that the game is set in a faux-ancient-China. Superficially, most of the designs are very Chinese cinema in flavor (especially at the begining of the game). This includes characters, environs, and general feel. However, the player will quickly discover that resemblance is superficial at best.
One of the biggest selling points of this game for me was a purported complex fighting system that involved Kung Fu styles that your character can learn. Unfortunatly, the game has a sever lack of styles and an even more sever lack of interesting gameplay during fights. Each style only has one combination, that is to say, the fighting system is as deep as mashing the 'A' button repeatedly. In JE you can simply attack and roll around without any fear of retribution. This made the numerous fights in the game nothing more than annoyances that are increasingly irritating as the game goes on. The poor fighting system itself is enough to ruin the game. The team system is entirely useless. Team members are so braindead when used in combat, I found myself simply using them in "support" mode the whole time. In support mode, your teammate meditates during battle adding some positive effect to you while you confront all of the foes.
The story is completely cliche and entirely uninteresting. Not only is it not interesting, it doesn't even maintain roots in Hong Kong cinema. Not content to pull from the rich culture they have available, Bioware decided that they could create a new world with magic and fantastic creatures and amazing sights. The game felt less like "The Invincible Shaolin" and more like "Final Fantasy". In fact, it should be noted that there was a distinctly Final Fantasy X feel during the course of the whole game. This may be what some people are looking for, but this reviewer was left wanting something more.
There were some definitely positive aspects of the game however. The graphics, specifically the environmental graphics and the facial animations were superb. The music was absolutely amazing. In fact I would venture to say that the music was the best part of the game.
Given the choice again, I would not purchase the game. I found it to be very disappointing and not at all what Bioware initially promised it would be. Both the fighting system and the over the top storyline sunk a game that had otherwise good design.
DISCLAIMER: I live in a small town...where things are supposed to be rosy and sweet. In fact, quite the opposite. No business or government employee believes in service. If you don't like the $20 burnt or half cooked pizza, you can shove it...go to Pizza Hut 25 miles over. If you don't like the phone service, go somehwere else they say...there is no one else. Thank God Comcast came here. They have already taken most of the phone companies Internet business (only ISP before now) and if VOIP takes off, these morons are done.
And this is why I support Walmart in small towns. At least then the super over-priced and no service "mom and pop" joints go away.
Why does Microsoft insist on keeping VBScript around? (I realize WSH allows for other languages, but JScript and some Perl support isnt' enough) Why no adopt Python, Ruby, or Lua as the "official" Windows scripting language? This would go a long ways towards convincing me of Microsofts dedication to developers.
I second that. I didn't shop there for the longest time because I assumed they sucked as much as their predecessor (Egghead Computers). Its better than ordering from random vendors off of pricewatch because (like the parent says) shipping is awesome. Whenever I order from a vendor on pricewatch, the time until I get my part is arbitrary.
Disc brakes are only really better in wet conditions. Otherwise now-a-days V-brakes are perfectly fine. I'm actually suprised that the shop owner wasn't trying to sell them to you though. Most shops around here use Disc Brakes as a huge selling point and mark-up accordingly.
Actually, the reason that Yamamoto attacked Pearl Harbor is becuase the US had just recently refused to sign a trade agreement with the Japanese over iron exports. Because of this, the Japanese feared that they would run out of natural resources required for waging war.
Let me ask you something then. Why is there a "Themes" applet and a "Style" applet? This is just an example of the bone-headed-ness of the organization.
Lucky! At WSU we don't have an SUS or SMS server running in the college of business (IT might, but I don't think so). Our grad students and faculty got hit hard. We basically had to shut down for a week to sort everything out. In the mean time all of our other problems started stacking up. Oh well that's what they pay me the big (small) bucks to fix.
Wow except you have no idea how to administer a Windows box either. Automatic updates don't download everything, just some of them. To get all the hot fixes you have to use hfnetchk. And I wasn't talking about the task scheduler, I was referring to the option to automatically remotely update machines (completely) without having to do it on every box.
Except that it doesn't work that way. Windows update doesn't install all the updates your computer needs. For that you need to use hfnetchk to scan you machine and then go download the patches that it says (it can't do it automatically). Plus there are cryptic switches in Windows too, for example:
%DIRECTORY%\q234232.exe -w -m
Now tell me smart guy, what do those do. At least if I were doing a dpkg I could use --install instead of -i, but -i make's logical sense. -w and -m make is so the machine doesn't reboot and runs in silent mode. On top of that to properly finish the install (if you install more than one patch) you have to run a SEPARATE utility, qchains.exe, otherwise only the first patch will get registered correctly.
And for the record, it wasn't the switches that I was worrying about messing up, it was the bash script (I'm not too hot at it).
For everyone who's whining about how Windows can do all this and that, try writing a batch script to update Windows. Oh, wait, not all windows updates can be automated, some of them can, some can't. Some updates can't be installed without rebooting. Some can't be installed before others without rebooting.
I probably messed that up, but in Windows it's much more of a headache. Or how about scripting cron to automagically install updates on client machines from a server. In Windows you have to install 3rd party software and pay even more.
Anyway, there is certainly something to be said for the ease of maintanability of Linux vs Windows, at least from the standpoint of someone who maintains University labs of Win2k machines;-)
Does it matter that much that you can come in at 11 when you're expected to work fifty or sixty hours a week without extra pay?
I think you're missing the point, in Redmond it's not a choice to come in at 11am. You either come in at 3am or 11am. All time it between said schedule the "freeway" is known as the biggest "parking lot" in the Seattle area.
Not that it means much, but gconf was one of the best ideas for Gnome 2. In fact, the only reason I don't use Gnome now is because Nautilus is unuseable IMO. Simplify it to as fast and good as the Xandros FM and I'll use Gnome for everything.
"I learned from American security and military speakers that, "We need to attack Iraq not to punish it for what it might have, but preemptively, as part of a global war. Iraq is just one piece of a campaign that will last years, taking out states, cleansing the planet."
Straight up, that may BE their initiative, but they would never SAY it. Christ. Especially to a group of other world leaders, not all of whom agree.
Then the Feds should pay for paternity tests for 100% of dads, regardless of the situation it should be required. Furthermore, dad's should have an option to "divorce" the child. In which case, the father get's no paternity rights, but doesn't have to pay any support. Abortion is a legal avenue for the woman to choose, if the man wishes her to do so and she chooses not to he should be under no obligations what-so-ever.
Women are given way too many right when it comes to single parenting. I know too many people who get burned. In one case (obviously this is just anecdotl) the non-father was pursued by the state after having -3- paternity tests prooving his non-involvment. The state claimed (this is a direct quote): "Apparently [my friend] loved the boy [~1 year old] when he thought he was the father and does not now that he knows he isn't. While that's understandable it's not [my friend's] best interest that [the state] is concerned with. [...]" If you're interested in reading the letter from the prosecuting attorney in it's entirety it can be seen: here and here
So basically what I'm getting at is that if my friend had not paid child support to a child who was not his own and whom he knew for less than a year, he would be a felon. That's bullshit. State mandated paternity tests should curb this and bring the blame where it really lies.
Roger that. If Bujinkan was all that good they'd BE the Judo or BJJ champs. As it is they're a bunch of LARPers and Asiaphiliacs. http://www.bullshido.net/
In fact, forget the internet and the blackjack!

I have a $1000 Specialized FSR that I ride on the street sometimes. But that's because I'm a poor college student that can't afford another bike.
It's all about perspective.
Actually, the reason that Yamamoto attacked Pearl Harbor is becuase the US had just recently refused to sign a trade agreement with the Japanese over iron exports. Because of this, the Japanese feared that they would run out of natural resources required for waging war.

Amen. I don't understand how they can add tabs (the only useful addition over xterm) and make it dog slow.
I think their fat stacks of cash money are a bit more distracting.
Just a thought

However, in Debian:
#!/bin/bash
atp-get update ; apt-get upgrade
Or if you have the packages downloaded already
#!/bin/bash
DIR=/location/of/binaries
dpkg -i $DIR/*.deb
I probably messed that up, but in Windows it's much more of a headache. Or how about scripting cron to automagically install updates on client machines from a server. In Windows you have to install 3rd party software and pay even more.

Fine:
Context Sensitive Menus (that's the right button on your little mousey thingy)
DHCP, yes they came up with this
Task Bar
The "Show Desktop" button
There's probably more, and I'm not even an apologist!. I can't believe that shit got modded up.
You don't know what "Stolkholme's Syndrome" is do you?
Actually it's my understanding that a University is a collection of colleges.
For example, and my university we have a college of mechanical engineering, and also a college of history.
Together these are called a university (obviously there are more colleges than the two, but you get the idea).
Does it matter that much that you can come in at 11 when you're expected to work fifty or sixty hours a week without extra pay?

Actually Small Talk was around before C and it's based on the OO paradigm.
Not that it means much, but gconf was one of the best ideas for Gnome 2. In fact, the only reason I don't use Gnome now is because Nautilus is unuseable IMO. Simplify it to as fast and good as the Xandros FM and I'll use Gnome for everything.
I'm thinking it's a hoax due to this line:
"I learned from American security and military speakers that, "We need
to attack Iraq not to punish it for what it might have, but
preemptively, as part of a global war. Iraq is just one piece of a
campaign that will last years, taking out states, cleansing the planet."

Actually last year they hit 3 billion. Thought you ought to know ;-)
