  1. To the author of Sobig: on Microsoft Virus Spam: SoBig.F · · Score: 1

If you're reading this, why don't you send the next version of Sobig in a message that says somethig to the effect of "DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT, IT CONTAINS A VIRUS" with the virus itself named virus.EXE and contained in a file called virus.zip.

You have enough proxies as it is, surely you can "trow away" one batch. You know, just for the hell of it.

The headers still offer a lot of information to filter by, as do the urls of the images and the fact that they are remote.

    My POPFile says this:
    Lookup result for html:imgremotesrc

    spam 0.7814528738
html:imgremotesrc is most likely to appear in spam

  5. Re:Filters do not stop spam... on Comparison of Bayesian POP3 Spam Filters · · Score: 1

Both filtering and blocking help. Blocking helps by not even letting the mail enter your server, and filtering helps by not showing you the mail even if you receive it. If you can't see it, you can't buy anything from the spammer (well, at least directly because of the spam). And I'd say the biggest cost of spam is wasted hours spent looking at the spam when you're checking your mail.

Water pumps make almost no noise. At least when compared to a fan. Of course you'll probably still need a fan for a radiator, but going from CPU&NB&GPU ( and if you are hard-core, Power) fans to 1 large fan that runs at 7 volts makes a big difference.

Well, I've already gotten many spams that have the tagged address intact. And spammers should not do that anyway. A plus-sign is a valid character in the local part of the address. No-one should try to interpret it in any way.

I could have a filter that puts any mails coming to the plain address straight to the trash, since I have not used the untagged address (nearly) anywhere.

In addition to that, while the iki.fi server uses "+" as a separator, some servers could use a "-" or any other character as the separator. So you could encode the address as for example laura-jenny.elle.nora.alexandra.camilla@example.co m and have a look-up table between parts of IP-addresses and names.

You can often do this even without a throwaway domain. Many addresses can be tagged by adding a "+" (plus-sign) and anything between the user name and the @-sign.

For example wheany+sd@iki.fi, wheany+SpamTastesGood@iki.fi, wheany+glahglahglag@iki.fi, wheany+spammer.com_on_06_22_2003@iki.fi all go to the same mailbox.
