Then they could build that power station on the other side of the moon that I read about. Maybe it was on slashdot, not sure. But it was supposed to be able to collect more than enough power to supply the entire planets demand. Energy would be collect on the other side of the moon, and beamed back to earth via satellites. Of coarse, this will never happen because of the greedy oil companies.
An older article here has the developers of their open source devision saying...
IBM Kernel Hackers:
All of the people in our group and most in the LTC have Thinkpads for their daily development and run Linux on them (I'm writing this on one as I sit in my apartment). There may not be as much corporate support there as you want, but there is plenty of grass-roots support. We had to learn all the quirks to get Linux installed and get all of the little things working (just like you). I've always wished that we shared more of this information, but there are usually people who are farther ahead than we are. I've uploaded the meager information that we put together during a meeting once. If you're curious, take a look: http://www.sr71.net/slashdot/thinkpad/linux-deskto p
People don't buy many small computers just because they will run Linux (the geek population just isn't that large). People do, however, blow large chunks of cash on big machines just to run Linux. Mom-and-Pop can almost always undercut IBM on prices for small machines, and geeks are thrifty. You don't have to sell many million dollar machines to justify being involved in Linux development.
Why dont they just start working on Linux for Laptops?
I would imagine that since the PS/2 or Xbox is INSIDE a LOCAL network, it wouldnt really open up security issues. For something to really cause a security issue, it has to open up and recieve requests on a port. I.E. Apache, telnet, ssh, ftp etc etc. So I dont think the PS/2 or Xbox is a problem. Unless you give it a global ip and start running Apache...uh....shit...There's an idea...
Windependance day - The day hoards of slashdotters and Linux fans alike gathered to battle that EVIL paper clip. And what did they do? Well, heh, Ill tell you what they did, but it wasnt pretty. When they got ahold of the paper clip, they grabbed ahold of him at each and...and they....they....STRAIGHTENED HIM!!!
It's an unworkable idea even voluntarily. Who is going to PAY for the storage, retention, and transfer of the GIGABYTES of data that these records will require the ISPs to keep?
I would think that much data would take up more than GB's, more like TeraBytes.
The DOJ is on crack. If they think for ONE f*cking second that this would actually work, they're wrong. Ill just start encrypting my email more often. Lets see them get through to my mail headers under 128bit RSA. Yeah I know they have Carnivore, but it only selectively stores email. So, what do you think they will call the machine that collects all THIS information? Lets have a little slashdot naming game shall we? Department of Justice my ass. They need a new name too. Department of Snooping, gives a new meaning to the acronym DOS.
Maybe this means AMD will cut their prices on Athlon chips even more! With ram being so cheap, and this making it able to create more chips at less cost, maybe I really can have that beowulf cluster I've always wanted! Now what to do with it....

If I am not mistaken (and I am wrong quite often) werent Microtel PC's that were being sold at WAL-MART preloaded with Lindows? With the earlier story about Lindows changing their marketing slogan, and now this, Im beginning to wonder if maybe there is something going on?
As I have heard, read, and understood, the FBI has devices they can just SET near the wire/line and it picks it up via electrical waves outputted by the wire/line. So, in reality, it isnt really a 'wiretap'. I could see this as being a way to get around the law, or atleast cause a pain in the butt in courts. Of coarse Im no lawyer and Im most likely wrong. Anyone else ever hear about or see one of these devices?
Nothing better than the internet. My favorite is devshed. They have great forums if you're looking for help in just about any IT topic. There is also PHP documentation and Mysql documentation.
I did not have a sexual relationship with that woman...
Um, if he went through that much trouble to delete it, wouldnt it be 'I did have a sexual relationship with that woman...'?
The beams dont harm plant/animal life, it was in the article.

So does that mean that a better name for Doom III would be Doom 1.11, or maybe Doom 11.1?
How do you not Remember DooM 2?
With sarcasm.
Doom III? You mean there was a Doom II?!

What happens if it archives a website with the Nimda/Code red virus?
This is just....mind blowing. Look at Ebay from 1997.
Slashdot from 1997.
Nah, it has to compete with other governments...like China, and cuba, and...oh shit!
Well hot damn they're just on an anti-trust streak arent they.
Use it to make a CGI of Natalie Portman covered in steaming hot grits.
You're from the south......arent you?
Is it pop or soda?
