They existed. I know they did. I just can't find them anymore.
I use photoshop and have for years. I'm extremely adept at using the mouse to draw. What I need is a mouse that will let me vary my line strength in photoshop in the same way that a tablet would.
They did exist, but I can't find them anymore.
Anyone?

I was very impressed with this concept, or more specifically that someone in the mainstream got it. Proceedural content is the best way to give a massive amount of content to players. In addition to laying that basis, Will realized that player content is just as important.
Leveraging the content created by the players is indeed a very smart move. From the ground up there will be entire universes of content overnight.
What Will missed was the next logical step in this evolution of game design and how this will affect MMOG games.
At the end of the remarkable series of player driven content, he imposes several end games at the highest levels. First Encounter games for the space fairing creations of the player. He quickly listed off several examples of mini-games that players can explore with their final creations.
What would be more impressive and would point to the future direction this technology will advance, is if a similar simple tool system used for creation of your creatures could be used for creating proceedural plots.
In the same way that software can be used to figure out how to make a three legged creation walk, it could also be used to find a way to make a three planet storyline work.
Obviously MMOGs need this technology to actually achieve the next level of play, where players are allowed to create plotlines dynamically for themselves and other players. It's not possible to create unique plots for hundreds of thousands of players from the publisher, nor is it required. Players are more than happy to supply plots themselves and they will be much richers content experiences for having done so.
The key here is the term "could be admitted as evidence of criminal intent." It's not being used as evidence that he did anything wrong. His crime is still that he took pictures of children in sexual ways.
What this ruling is saying is that he knew what he was doing was wrong (criminally) because he gathered the means to hiding it. This is just being used to show intent.
"For the same reason we don't allow kids to buy pornography, cigarettes, or alcohol, we shouldn't allow them to go to stores and buy video games that teach them to do the very things we put people in jail for -- abusing women, joining street gangs, killing police officers, or even assassinating President Kennedy," said Yee, a child psychologist, referring to scenarios in some video games.
And we should burn the books that also teach kids these horrible things. Movies, music, in fact we should even allow them to watch the news.
For the same reasons we don't allow kids to buy pornography (because it makes the adults around them uncomfortable), cigarettes (because games cause cancer and are addictive), and alcohol (because games make you drunk and can damage your liver) we should forbid them from playing Quake.
If you really want the tackle what's teaching kids to "abuse women, join street gangs, kill police officers..." then get them out of the ghetto. At least while their playing video games they aren't shooting up or banging.
The defendant in this case represented himself after watching an episode of Law and Order. The defendant refused to comment on his future plans, but there are reports that he's been watching episodes of the Six Million Dollar Man.
I finally got off of it when I realized I hate playing puzzle games. Before that, though, I was hard core playing. It sucks the life out of you. In a cute way.
Why do people keep calling these things "automatic". I want a program that makes a map for me. I want it to draw the continent, rivers, roads, cities, towns...
All this does is draw things that I can imagine. I want it to make maps for me.
Basically, even though the courts have found their site operator's behavior to be illegal- they can't prosecute because the user dynamically creates copies of songs to be downloaded themselves.
[cough]Bribes.[/cough]
These guys are just lucky they made enough money to convince the courts that their "users cynamically create" their copies.
Time is an illusion created by the brain, in much the same way color is an illusion. There are people who have suffered brain damage that no longer register time/movement.
Why can't we just get a list of possible candidates and vote either YES or NO for *each* candidate.
Example:
NO George Bush YES John Kerry NO Ralph Nader YES Collen Powell
Then you just count up the Yes votes for each candidate, the one with the most votes wins. It's stupid to make voting in a duonopoly. I should lose my vote of confidence in the third party because I want to support a leading party candidate.

If it were one person acting this way I'd agree with you, but it's a corporation. I have no problem with seeing part of that corporation survive while other parts become extinct. That's more likely to happen if you support the part that's making the right decisions.
Please let this be true. I can't wait for my Imps, Paper and Scanners to start roaming the endless "core" of cyber space. No more coding long ours for the flase glory of being on top of the Core Wars hill.
Check out "A New Kind of Science" for a very interesting way to genereate random numbers without external input, like lava lamps or white noise. The system works, as anyone using Mathmatica can attest. It's the same function used there.

If you buy one "Revenge of the Sith" tie-in, this is one that won't disappoint.
If you buy two, however, this will be your second favorite.
Historically when news agencies leak Apple news, they end up in court. If Apple hasn't sued anyone about this, then it's not true.

Guy1: Dude, did you get that girls phone number?
Guy2: No, she totally blew me off.
Guy1: What do you mean?
Guy2: Well I heard her telling that other guy her phone number.
Guy1: Do you want me to hack the wireless mike and get her number for you?
Guy2: Oh yeah! Great idea!

Settlements rarely place blame, or the defendant has almost no reason to settle.
It's more likely that the settlement says nothing about why the money is being distributed.
