I actually tried to buy a XP license for a friends computer through the windows update (it failed genuine advantage test), but lo and behold - in some bizzare manner it failed because it couldn't validate some activex stuff - with wga. It was by then I simply laughed and went to a webshop instead.
Using your monitor as a AM transmitter. This little program is a real eye opener for those who still thinks that TEMPEST attacks are something you just see in the movies.
What they could do is to have a on board chip which checks a signed firmware on the PROM against a public key. This chip could be buried in epoxy as Microsoft does in some of the new revisions of the xbox360. This makes it easy to roll out new firmware revisions, while still making it much harder to change the prom, since you'd also have to swap the key in the epoxy-buried chip, which is not very easy to do to several boxes in a short time without leaving traces. Isn't this basically the ultimate goal of trusted computing and DRM folks ? Shouldn't be to hard to implement.
I believe the speed limit of an aircraft over most land is the speed of sound, so he is ok all the upto ~750mph.
You haven't been to an airport lately, have you? The speed limit through the security line is up to ~1 meter/hour.
Also, they don't take lightly to taking your car as carry-on. "All carry-on pieces, including laptops, must fit either underneath the seat in front of you or in an overhead bin."
.. is that the specs for the AOE protocol is so simple that you could probably make your own little testbed with some cheap microcontrollers and some ram for caching. It wouldn't be very fast, but it would be one cool project.
..BUT! I don't rely on separate ip ranges as security. This aproach is in my view pretty risky - If someone in the know would stumble upon this WLAN, they would certainly be intrigued. Then the ip range thingy would pretty soon be spoofed as soon as someone sniffs a couple of his packets. On my network I have a firewalled interface to the wlan, presenting DHCP, OpenVPN and a thttp server running a blinkenlights MOTD (all traffic redirected to this):) Offcource the thttpd is an added security risk, but I like to have some sort of feedback on this not being OK with me:)
Heh, Where the hell are you from ? "A meteorite landed in finland" ? The meteorite landed in Norway - it's a norwegian newspaper, with the article filed under the "local" dir. It really pisses me off when people think that all the countries in scandinavia is a single country. I Do Not Live In Finland, you insensitive.. Clod!
Check all the systems against the screenshots in Major Malfunction's infrared presentations. He seems to have 0wned most of the hotel systems out there. Couldn't find a URL to any of the presentations, but here is a Wired article that contains some information.
apparantly the lameness filter, combined with me not bothering to preview, removed the alligator from my post too.. hmmm,, lameness filter in TITLE tag, that's a nice one.
It seems like slashcode removes the from the title of the article in the title tag in the HTML. Probably not the gravest bug, but still:) You'd never expect something useful coming out of 1. April, but there you go.
Thinking about how common it is for an average slashdotter to RTFA, this could actually lead to people blindly jumping into their car and speeding away to "patch those boxxors". Nice one!
I must admit from reading the title my heart missed a beat. Theres's gotta be something real on 1.april, no ?
a "stupid" moderation option ? I would love to just for once, mod people stupid when they actually reply seriously on any story on slashdot today. Please Taco ? (Jupp, this reply could also be seen as a "serious" reply, but bear with me)
that name instantly made me think of the jump to conclusion mat, don't know why.
My advice would be to simply make an "about" page on your site, explaining different usages and the like. This is often the first thing I check out when I come to a website about a project that is previously unknown to me. Some colors on that website wouldn't hurt either. Remember, first impression counts!
You nailed it
hm.. isn't that knight rider season 1, episode 3 ? :)
it seems as if your "?" key is stuck. please contact your nearest computer shop and ask for a replacement keyboard.
