Well, you can use a censored Internet (and we both know there are ways around that) or you can use no internet (I don't consider
I seriously don't think those communities would be progressive enough to consider doing this. You do bring up an interesting point, however.
We aren't talking about the Federal Gov't. We're talking about municipalities. Effectively, this is the same as getting together with your 5,000 best friends and sharing the costs associated with running an ISP and installing the needed infrastructure. Only the relationship is formalized, and the City Gov't already has lawyers.
Is it really all that stupid? Did he not lose the popular cote? Was not his victory in Missuori and Florida highly suspect? Was it not plainly obvious that the SC ruled along party lines to support the questionable #'s from Fla.?
That Bush was elected is certainly debatable. It may be correct, but there is an equal chance that it isn't. Surely you do not dismiss the numerous irregularities WRT Bush's rise to Power.
How long before one of these guys gets entered for Robot Wars/Battle Bots? I believe those shows use evolutionary principles...
I dounbt it. individually, these bots don't do much. It's how they work together that makes them functional. and I don't think they have a Tag-Team event yet on BattleBots.
Not to mention that on the Evolutionary scale, these guys are quote a bit more like Insects than the Mammals on BattleBots. One-on-one, they're far inferior. As a whole, they'll outlive anything with fewer than six legs.
BioHazard was my hero. I loved that Bot. He ruled the landscape for years. Watching that match broke my heart.
Son of Wyachi proves once again that when it comes to making things that destroy other things, Americans are unequaled. The Metaphysical implications of this reality kinda speak for themselves.
The downward spiral of Western Society notwithstanding, I enjoy watching things destroy other things. Because, I suspect, I have a penis, destroying things is a source of unending entertainment for me. In fact, killing processes is the primary reason I use Linux. I intentionally write bad code, just to kill it when it runs. And laugh maniacally.
That's exactly the difference. It costs me maybe 50 bucks a month and some of my time to run a decent, informative, niche website.
I don't even know where I'd begin to try to launch a niche TV station. But I know it'd cost a hell of a lot more.
The "democratizing" impact of hte Internet is the very low entry barrier. It's not about where most people spend there time. Most people only watch four TV stations; we don't realy care about them.
What we care about is that even though 99% of the people may not give two shits about some topic or other, that 1% will still have a presence. That's what matters! The information will be there, with little regard for your desire for it to be there.
Windows XP has excellent support for SCSI devies, as well as USB and Firewire. From mp3 players to scanners and webcams, Windows XP supports it. And there now there's no need to reboot to install drivers (no need to recompile you're kernel either!). Windows XP is a revolution in computing, ease of use, stability, multimedia, Windows XP has it all.
Haven't used the MacOS in a the last few years, have you? As I recall, Apple had built-in suport for SCSI in 1986, Firewire (an Apple Trademark, BTW, it's 1394 in Windows)in 1996, and USB in 1998.
Not that I use it anymore, but Apple was a few years ahead of MS where connectivity and multimedia are concerned.
"..one of the few Hollywood got right this summer. "
Smith isn't Hollywood. He's New Jersey. And BTW, is there anything you read/see Mr. Katz, in which you don't infer some type of "'net" related subtext?
We all value our privacy. However, most of this information is not private. I'm sorry that most of you didn't realize that until now, but that's the Reality.
Now, if you don't like it, tell your Mayor/Councilman/StateRep/Governor/Congressman/Sen ator/President. Tell your local newspaper. Tell the local TV station. This story has sensationalism potential they'd eat up.
Well, if the water company did a shitty job and didn't provide me with the services i want/need (which it's competitors can/would), then yes, I would like the option of another water provider.
There must some kind of checks/balances on corporations that are granted local or regional monopolies. That means they should be forced to open their infrastrcture where feasable. Even if were just huge fines, at least my city could fix some frickin potholes.
As for how much time, maybe 30 days. As for the media hype, it wasn't until all hell broke lose that they started to pay attention. It's been known for quite some time that this hole existed, but it's not news until somebody bleeds.
Microsoft deserves a head start, but that's it. If holes are kept to MS and the people that find them, it's only a matter of time before a Black Hat figures it out. Releasing the details puts pressure on the companies to fix the damn thing. Without that pressure, MS would feel little to no pressure to fix what they screwed up in the first place. You wouldn't be doing anyone but MS a favor by withholding this info.
The lesson to be lerned is that if you son't want ot lose money from downtime and reboots, don't use Microsoft on your servers. Certainly don't depend on it.
Give everyone a microwave, and you'd see all sorts of convoluted shit happening. Americas do dumb shit with technology because they HAVE technology. Even the poor have technology. Even people that never went to High School, and think microwaves are that gay-ass way Miss America waves have technology. This shit is bound to happen.
I understand. Most of my exposure to Doonesbury was from books (TGF the Public Library). I just think it's not likely that pre-teens would have been reading Bloom County and getting the humor when it in circulation. Were you reading it before you went to High School?
Oh, USA Today, while I hesitate to call it a "newspaper", does not have a comics section either.
That Bush was elected is certainly debatable. It may be correct, but there is an equal chance that it isn't. Surely you do not dismiss the numerous irregularities WRT Bush's rise to Power.
I'm busy figuring out how to sell my wife so I can afford one...
Please, in 10 years I'll have 1.7TB of RAM. Fuck hard disks.

Um. Hilary is a dude. I suspect Hilary Rosenbot would retain the gender identity of it's namesake.

Nice Phat pipe, really cheap accounts/hosting. even the Business class is cheap.

But then, you are just trolling, anyway...
On a saturday, no less.

I Just mark "Independant".
Of course there is always more to the story than the Defendant claims. I think most of the posts WRT that story were suspicious of his claims.

This is, of course, why my $300 went to the EFF
