If you actually click the link you will see that the video is broken anyway.
I just posted it because Google IS censoring this page.
I saw the preview of this story so I went to google and searched for "'Introducing: The Self-Cleansing Housing Projects.'". And the page came up. If you think I'm a sick fuck for wanting to see what the fuss is about then go ahead and feel that way. Personally I think censorship of any kind is more offensive than anything you'll find on rotten.com or what have you.
Anyway I tried the search a few minutes later and the page was gone. Stuff doesn't usually just disappear out of google like that.
I like google, I depend on it, and I expect google to find what I'm looking for if it exists on the web at all. While I don't usually search for this sort of thing, it definitely irritates me that google is now deciding what I should and shouldn't see.
And yes I do think it's socially and morally repugnant to post stuff like this on the web. But it's a far lesser offense than censoring it.
This is a really good question, and not a troll at all.
The answer is "people like me" and the explanation is as follows: roughly once or twice a year, I find that my job requirement shifts a bit, and the platform of choice for said work might change overnight from windows to macos to linux. One of the reasons I used yellowDog for about a year was because I really liked my g4 machine and its cinema display, and didn't want to junk it just so that I could run the OS (linux) which I needed at the time to get my work done.
These days I usually spend about 1/3 of my time in windows, 1/3 in linux, and 1/3 in MacOS. Certainly I enjoy my life the most while in MacOS, but that's beside the point. The solution for getting my work done has come down to runing Mac at the office, and Linux + vmWare at home. With this setup I have just one machine at each location, and between the two I cover all my needs in a day. The linux machine is the stablest and fastest a=of them all, and I really wish that masos could be one of my vmware sessions... but that's another story.
Anyway, I agree that YellowDog linux is really a niche product, given that slicker OSes+applications exist for the hardware in question. But sometimes Linux is what you need, and sometimes a Mac is what you want to use, and that's when YellowDog is the answer.
Hmmmmmmm... Let's see machester encoded you'll need at least five or six samples per bit just to see it. One packet == 56 bits preamble plus the start frame delimiter plus what 1500 bytes payload plus four bytes crc we're talking a good 100K samples or so at 60MHz. Sure - no problem! Just get ready for some serious sec/div spinning.:)
Are you THAT fucking stupid? How long have you been a "network administrator"? Which part of Google and basic documentation do you not understand?
This is why I cringe when the IRS talks about how many "CIO"s they've bene through trying to get their software right. I'm afraid that the submitter is the only type of person who would apply for a government job doing information systems. These are sad, sad times for technology.
Okay the tone of the press release obviously makes this an April fool's joke - but it's a damned stupid april fool's joke if you ask me. What's unreasonable/funny about 1G email storage? Seems like a pretty decent product if you ask me, and certainly something google could pull off almost overnight if they wanted to (they already have the distributed storage and search infrastructure). And 1G per user is perfectly doable given a) storage is cheap b) oversell ratio is extremely high
Hmmm - if you want to be pedantic about it then bandwidth is really the defined by the range of frequencies a channel can carry (which, incidentally, determines its information capacity.)
But even by the more recently accepted definition of bandwidth, you're not quite right. Latency *does* matter when we're talking about packet networking such as pigeon based transport. What if a pidgeon dies in transit? In this case it'll take you up to three hours to learn of his demise, and only then can you send the information again. So high latency + packet loss has reduced your effective bandwidth dramatically - the same happens on non-pidgeon based transports. Of course techniques such as FEC can, and are used to mitigate this. In this case I'm imaginine that pidgeon loss would be quite high, and some sort of RAIP scheme would be desirable on top of a good selective retransmission algorithm.
Also: how do you know how many pidgeons you can fit in a given amount of airspace? What if you only have ten pidgeons to work with? Here the latency is critical because you need to wait for your pidgeons to return before you can send them again with more data.
So bandwidth is not the be-all and end-all of total throughput. In many real-world situations, all the bandwidth in the world won't make your connection any work any faster.
I could see this really being a haven for pirates, assuming they have a web front-end. Imagine if everybody had a gig of storage on an absurdly fast pipe and the ability to move files back and forth practically instantly.
We'll have guys writing p2p applications on top of this which let you automatically find the warez you need, then automatically trigger a forward from the mail account where the file is located. And the anonymity is so much easier because the files are being moved by someone else.
Actually I was trying to link directly to a funny Onion headline but slashcode wouldn't let me. Here's a link that doesn't try to go straight to the pdf.
I think the point is that which format is underneath is "Fairplay" is irrelevant for practical purposes - you may as well call it "Apple's format". If it's got DRM around it, then the underlying compression may as well be completely top secret and non-standard, because having it AAC doesn't do anyone a bit of good (except insofar as some would consider AAC a decent codec).
Besides which, AAC is still a patented non-free format which is a barrier to adoption in and of itself. Although VIA has recently made the license a bit more accessible.
The iTunes music store? Many have tried and failed at selling music online before apple made it work.
iPodmini? For the love of god--- that's only the 5000th portalbe mp3 player to hit the market.
Expose - well, yes, that's an actual innovation AFAIK. So I'm confused - are you trying to make the parent's point for him, or do you honestly think that iTMS or iPodmini were original ideas?
Are you still upset over that ad hominem? Can we have a little discussion or will you just get angry?
Good advice is offered, but you ignore it, countering that we're helpless without our lawyers.
Perhaps I am both a troll and an egotistical jerk. Or perhaps I have a fair point and that's hurtful to you... maybe you should call your lawyer so he can sue me for punitive damages...
Yes, and I won - dispute over a consulting contract.
against a slew of profesisonal lawyers,
admittedly, no. But I don't think the RIAA will send a "slew" of lawyers over $3K.
especially when the law and evidence is on their side?
no. But the evidence is NOT on their side for the case in point.
Sorry but you just totally ignored what that guy was saying and went off about how nobody can afford a lawyer. I find it sad that a) everyone thinks they need a lawyer and b) everyone thinks they can't afford a lawyer. It ain't that bad.
That's because most people (yourself included) are not smart enough to even read and understand the grandparent post, let alone come to this realization on their own. Go read it again:
And that's if you don't hire a lawyer...
Seriously, you don't have to have the slightest bit of legal wit to go to court by yourself and reasonably defend yourself with his points 1..5... boom boom boom and then la piece de resistance: here's thecomputer with no music.. DONE!
This isn't the OJ Simpson trial. The court isn't going to waste their time going into it any further than that
The problem is that there are people who really REALLY love math, programming etc and just have no desire for a S.O. (or any other social interaction), at least at the high school/college age. It'll really cripple you if coding is the extent of your outlook on life.
What's rough on these folks is that while they're sharp as tacks, their poor social skills will not land them a job that pays commensurate with their technical skills. Schmoozing and negotiating skills are critical to financial success - if you're happy to be as well off as the marketroids then fine, but if you've got real skills you should know how to market yourself too.
It's rough out there, and it doesn't matter whether your specialty is I.T. or assembly programming - you've got to make connections and get respect from your employer.
So, did you pay sales tax on all your out-of-state internet purchases?
Did you speed today?
Some lawas are just fucked up and the DMCA is one of them. It is our DUTY to defy them.
At the time I posted that it was not coming up AT ALL - even tried giving the domain name. But all the other results that I got before were coming up.
Now the entry in question is back again.... maybe technical issue? Maybe someone changed their mind? Who knows.
If you actually click the link you will see that the video is broken anyway.

Sure, it has Total Integration. But is it an e-Solution for my enterprise application?
What does it do? Can anyone enlighten us, since fluke's web site makes this product look like an April fool's gag?

Motherfucking shit! That's amazing!

Some Americans have yet to receive their forty acres and mules.
Time to help out those folks whose only knowledge of female anatomy comes from all-night Tomb Raider sessions.
I think this illustration should help to clear up any confusion as to where the squeezebox is located.

When was the last time you bought a Sun Workstation?
About six years ago, when Sun was still somewhat competive in price / performance / quality.
Apple on the other hand, still makes good equipment that's worth the $$$.
"Who" is never right. Always use "whom". Same goes for words like "he" vs "him" except when it's the first word in a sentence.
