You can make your own custom errors and throw them whenever necessary with try/catch constructs. You must be discussing an earlier version. All these products evolve. And how the hell does SQL Server force you into vendor lock? Your reasoning is so vague and non-specific, it's baffling.
Pray tell what DB am I supposed to be developing on? I'll take your choice and knock a dozen holes in your logic. I suppose you also know exactly what non-MS language I should be using, too.
The right tools are the ones that work well for you. It sounds like you have not gotten SQL server to work for you and that's a shame because lots of other organizations figured it out and spend a lot less $ for it than, say, an Oracle shop.
It sounds to me like I would say you write bad code
Typical Slashdot fodder. How the hell do you know what kind of code I write? Ever seen a single line? If you are releasing on a 2 week cycle, you're the one either writing poor code or working on a trivial application.
I'd say re-entry counts as space. I would also say blowing up shortly after launch counts as part of the voyage, too. From my vantage point, NASA has lost plenty of people.
As far as traveling to Mars, I'd say the bigger problem is keeping the astronauts from killing each other.
So learn to write good code in that environment or get a different job; don't write bad code and blame it on obvious truisms
Sure....
And the moment you demonstrate to the organization you can write a quality app in 3 months, they'll decide they can ask for the next one in 2 months. You should come and try my environment some time.
I wouldn't say we write bad code. We just write adequate code in a survival mode to appease customers who were assured by our sales team that we can change anything they like.
Why does MS not use the tools they sell to the rest of the world? For example, my organization does not use perforce but TFS for version control. Is TFS inadequate for large-scale development?
I do not have much experience with lots of different versioning tools. I have only used TFS, CVS, and SourceGear.

Is there anything wrong with acting young? Should they all just admit they're older and begin using walkers to get around?
Psst....hey, we are all going to be old one day. We might as well continue to enjoy ourselves, even you feel you have to buy a damn mac.
How did the parent get a +4 insightful? Wake up moderators!
Seriously, I wish people could come up with cogent arguments instead of "sux, half-assed implementation, or crashes all the time"
My organization uses SQL SERVER 2005 and we have had nothing but great success. I especially love the XML data type with schema binding. In my recollection, the only failures we have had was either hardware-based or DBA-error.
I don't give a flying F#$% what the box looks like. I don't even care if it's in the same room with me. I can't wait for car manufactures to reveal the new, hip colors their vehicle ECUs will sport next model year.
I've met MCDBA's who can't write a simple join statement.
We have a couple of these where I work. We call them "F5 monkeys" because all they do is essentially run scripts that development gives them...and they make damn fine money doing it. Being one of the developers feeding them procs and scripts, I get a little peeved at how my organization works.
On another note... I never feel sorry for laid-off workers. If they are good, they should have no problem replacing the job. If they aren't good, they shouldn't have had the job to begin with.
Happy holidays, Mother Theresa. On another note...I guess those laid-off workers should never have had kids to feed, either.
Then stop flooding my living room with your electromagnetic propagation if you do not want me to examine and use it. Hey, if you are a neighbor blaring a stereo, is it illegal for me to listen and enjoy the music for free through the wall?
For all we know the code was written exactly to a spec that dictated how the date was to be handled. Since the article seems to indicate the spec rules all, shouldn't we blame the architects and not the coders?
"Well the US has tried to have him assassinated several time and continues to fund undemocratic coups against him. I personally think Chavez has every reason to have the US, and you pushed him there."
The Marine Corps is beginning to take a harder look at the BMI. You can now be over the BMI as long as you have a first-class score on the physical fitness test (PFT) and have a body fat measurement of less than 23%. If you meet these qualifications, you're golden.
The Corps wants people who can perform, not necessarily fit a chart made back in the 30's by Naval doctors.
Customers are uncertain as to what an application ought to do. I agree with that. The only thing they seem to be POSITIVE about is that they want it in 1/4th the time it would take to do a reasonable job.
I've never worked a project that was not (a) rushed and (b) design-tweaked half way through.
My experience has revealed a lot of Linux web developers are "learn PHP in 21 days" types. We weed you guys out at interviews all the time.
it isn't to say there are not Linux web developers out there that are not sharp as a tack, but by average --- there is a clear difference.
Learn the product.

And you are willing to take this new article at face value? Hell, this one could be flawed, too.
What's wrong with Slashdot? This story has no bearing on anything we're interested in.
Nope,
It was the Jury who were the biggest dumb-asses. It's the poor education and reasoning skills of our neighbors that perpetuate this shite.

They haven't lost anyone in space yet

Nope. That's why you resynch constantly on the pre-amble err...start bit...
RC osc's are just fine.

Actually, Southern Cali (Orange County). You know, land of the million dollar 600sq ft shack.
