So how will the work of this consortium integrate with that being done by the HL7 organization? And if there's a disagreement between standards bodies about how best to comply with HIPAA regulations, how does it get worked out?
Just disconnect the thing anytime you feel the need for speed, then reconnect it afterwards. There's always a way around the system. Just like the grocery cards -- I filled out my grocery card application with a fake name and address, and haven't had a problem.
UWB is very low-power and is less subject to interference than other wireless protocols. Robert Cringely had a good writeup about UWB and its capabilities in his column earlier this year.

BOTH alternatives are better than the lot of most musicians today who haven't had a big break. For those bands who can't get Clear Channel et al to play their music, P2P may be the only hope they have of finding a large audience.
The Hitchhiker's DVD may only be region 2 for now, but on the other side of the coin, the March release of the Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1 box set will be region 1 (U.S.) only.
How about a trade? We get the BBC to release the six episodes of HHG in region 1 over here, and we'll give them 26 episodes of ST:TNG for region 2 in return. I think we'd come out better on the deal, but hopefully the Brits will be too busy watching the ST:TNG episodes to notice.:-)
If this bug in IE has really been around for two and a half years, how is it that no one has stumbled on to it until now? Could it be that (GASP!) security through obscurity actually worked in this case?

...does it run Linux?
What happens when something like the Challenger disaster occurs to a launch vehicle carrying a nuclear reactor?
What about the ACM? Doesn't that qualify as a "serious professional association" for IT workers?
Don't think that it isn't being worked on.

The case is continuing in court, but it won't be against Dmitry, just Elcomsoft.
This really is the best of both worlds. We get the opportunity to see the DMCA blown out of the water, and Dmitry gets to go home for the holidays.
