Why is it our problem if anime producers are ripping off the japanese market? THe american anime market is larger now, the japanese are shooting themselves (and the american distro companies) by keeping the prices inflated.
>It's rewarding to compare Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complexto the only other great science fiction show on TV right now, the new Battlestar Galatica, as both have the same overriding theme: What does it mean to be human, and where is the line between man and machine?.
at least the women in BSG don't always run around in their underwear and doesn't have camera zeroing in on their asses. I didn't make it past the first DVD of SAC because the cheesecake fan boy pandering overwhelmed the story.
4 hours of free doesn't make up for jacked up prices the rest of the week. Esp when most museums have free days (and most NYC museums allow you to pay what you want and only have a recommended price, which is lower than moma's price)
At the museum MOMA provides audio gizmos (they look like TV remotes) for listening to the exhibit audio. It's included in the admission (thank god because admission is pretty damn high.
This is just a option for people to preload whatever mp3 play they have and not have to borrow one of the their things.
I wouldn't brag just because a company CLAIMS something will work under certain conditions. However considering how underpowered the revo is I'm sure it will work in horrible conditions and will be perfect to give to children (depending on how much a pain in the ass their new controller is to set up and use, you do know it requires a sensor to bet set up under your TV so it's not going to be a 'normal' consol either in terms of set up).
>Posts like these are what makes me read Slashdot. I would have probably never found the article because I'm not generally into web comics. All I read is PA.
then why did you need/. ? PA linked to it before slashdot did.
>Of course, you leave out the rather important fact that most of these accounts were reactivated by the end of the weekend
i didn't leave it out. Notice i referenced the banning in past tense not present tense ( i guess i should have been clearer). However lots of people are still having issues.
>Galliente (Scott Hartsman, EQ2 Producer) already answered that one, and it was basically "mea culpa"
that's not an answer that's an excuse for not fixing the issue;)
The problem is old and had been noticed months ago. It just took this long for enough people to figure out how to deliberately and consistently exploit quirks in the broker system to disrupt the economy.
It's interesting what they left out of the story. Item duping (done by exploiting bugs in the in game broker system that allows charters to sell items between each other for in game gold) really caught on weekend before last causing an emergency shut down of all servers on 8/7. Since then brokering has been either disabled or enabled for short amounts of time until someone noticed that the bug is still in the game. Also a ton of accounts were banned mainly because they were considered to have 'too much money for their level (lots of guilds lost their guild bank mules in this sweep)
The interesting thing is that people noticed issues in the broker system months ago and mentioned it in the eq2 forums but nothing was done.
> At the presentations at E3, PS3 seemed to have more "complete" games
heh all i saw was what looked like pre rendered videos. Yeah they said it was all game play features but i remember the 'real time live' ff8 dance scene in the ps2 demos that still look better than anything that's ever come out on the system.
this is more than 'delayed a bit' this would be about 1.5-2 years AFTER the xbox 360.
If Sony waited that long for the ps3 they would end up dead, when they started coming out with their 1'st Gen titles the xbox would already be out with their 3'rd Gen titles, and that is when the true must own games start coming out. Heck ps2 games already look dated and old next to the xbox and gamecube, after 1.5-2 years of the 360 being out it will look BAD.
>Oh and for some reason they're telling people not to use custom UI mods... very weird.
then they should make the UI more useable/customizable without having to depend on other people.
THe default WoW interface is a joke and the lack of customization built into the game itself is a bigger one. it's the main reason i chose eq2 over it.
Rollbacks aren't really a big deal. It's pretty well known that this coaster does it frequently (Not daily but I'd wager weekly at least) And the ride itself is designed to rollback safely. Heck most coaster nuts ride it hoping for a rollback, because it means you get a free ride (since the main thrill of TTD is the launch, everything else happens too fast to affect you).
The coaster even learned a new trick this year. It got stuck at the top with passengers (previosly it had just gotten stuck on empty test runs) for the first time (and someone had to go up and push it, at least they have an elevator in the tower just for that):D
actually the numbers seem to have climed slightly after their sharp drop a few months ago (at least according to http://www.mmogchart.com/). At least the population has stablized.
It'll be intersting to see what happenes when the asian servers go live and the expansion comes out. I wouldn't expect WoW numbers but it should see a nice spike and it is more likely to retain people than it was when it rolled out (the game has changed a lot since then).
EQ2's numbers have some issues. One problem was they expanded the number of servers shortly after launch but after the first 3 months the population took a hit causing servers to become under populated. Even at peek times servers population is light on just about every server, months ago it was heavy on many of them and Moderate on the rest.
truly new players are in short supply, most of the low level chars are alts of people who already hit 50 and are tired of raiding and the beginner area is a ghost town. However the situation has improved over the past few months and subscribers seem to be starting to slowly climb again.
To me saying 'soloing will be like EQ' means 'soloing will be limited, tedious, and boring' because that was my experience in EQ
>What would you suggest for death then? Because there are really only two feasible options, ease the hell out of it, or make it somewhat challenging.
Death can be challenging without being painful. I agree that WoW makes death meaningless but i think eq2 hits a happy medium with reduced stats until you recover your shard (or until 3 RL days pass for those times where it's impossible to get to it) and item damage that has to be repaired (which really adds challenge to raiding because if you die 10 times in a raid your equipment goes poof until you get it fixed, and going to get it fixed means you have quit the raid and you'll have to wait a week to retry it.)
Clearly we have different POV's because you likely enjoyed EQ enough to put up with it's problems while people like me got sick of the game. Vanguard is geared for people like you, not me.
>Harvesting: Don't assume until you find the facts. Trade skills have been different in every game and this will be no exception.
true right now we have an early FAQ, I'm basing my assumptions on my experience in EQ and their mind set. i could be completely wrong.
BTW I'm not a WoW fan at all, i found it boring and too much like EQ (minus any challenge and with a more annoying player population). I am. however, an EQ2 fan which manages (for the most part) to separate challenging from tedious.
>Excuse me? Your comment here makes no sense. How could you possible determine that thing game isn't meant for you based on this fact?
i like options when playing a game, EQ really limited what you could do solo so if i couldn't get a group together (or was only going to be on an hour or so) then i was stuck mob grinding with little reason other than to move that xp bar. The fact that the lack of soloing potion in eq is the reason I quit makes me know that I won't enjoy a game that brags about modeling it's soloing on EQ.
>There should be some sort of punishment for dying
yes some but i don't want to return to the days of naked corpse runs.
>Will this require groups at all times? Prove it.
i'm sure they won't require it at all times but assuming they follow the 'eq model' of soloing it will be tedious and boring to harvest solo.
>Examples and proof please.
read the vanguard FAQ, most of it shows how they are going back to doing things the 'EQ way. This will get them the hardcore EQ crowd but that's not enough (as eq2 showed, casual gamers left the game in droves after the first 3 months and now seem to be coming back after changes).
i guess this is going to be modded troll isn't it:)
EQ was only a hit because it was the best game of it's time. It's only alive now because of station pass and people that don't want to leave behind years of work.
This has nothing to do with Brad leaving, the next generation was improved on EQ and took players away while expanding the audience (wow has toped 2 mill players, eq toped out at around half a mill). Heck EQ left such a bad taste in peoples mouth that EQ2 is having problems because people equate EQ2=EQ=pain in the ass, despite eq2 having learned the lesions of EQ better than Wow (esp. with the more recent changes to EQ2 to make it even friendlier than when it launched). These pains in the ass elements were in the game from the start and are in Vanguard, the difference is gamers don't have to put up with them anymore.
Vanguard will be good for one thing, it'll take the people bitching that EQ2/WoW are too 'casual' and put them on a game I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole
I need to get my leather chaps, spiked codpiece and chain mail before doomsday hits and everyone runs out to the market to buy them.

agreed i would think anyone with half a brain would not check something like a 360. Which means Zork must not have half a brain...
well you can schedule a sign language interpretation (if you give them a few weeks notice).

via the EULA which expressly says soe is not responsible for changing in value of in game items for any reason whatsoever.

I'm sure they will go on sale by someone when the ps3 lauches
what part of "list of American, Japanese games in development" sounds like "Launch titles".
