Bullshit. Vinyl can't even manage a dynamic range of 60dB at some frequencies. See here for a scientific study proving so. Vinyl is "warmer" because it is less accurate. Welcome to my foes list, Mr. Disinformator.
Very interesting. So AG knows it's an 800lb gorilla, and is using that to its advantage. I'd say that PA should put the comic back up and see them in court, hell, even see if they take legal action at all. From this e-mail, it seems as though they weren't taking the first step toqwards a lawsuit, they were more like testing to see if a simple letter would stop it all.
There are many games that, although they work analytically, are best solved usint intuitionary intelligence. Chess and Go are two. I just finished writing a ten page paper on the benefits of intuition, and one of the most striking facts is that at any point, a chess grandmaster is only looking at about 100 possible moves, compared to the bazillions that chess computers do. I wouldn't doubt that RTS and turn-based strategy games are highly dependant on intuition.
Also, the whole point of interface design is to make a program intuitive, as any program can be deciphered analytically. The "appeal to intuition" of a programming team is critical these days.
Not very hard to do. Just don't assume they work analytically at all. Because they think on an entirely intuitional level (although some do cross over and do some analysis), they make judgements based on the information they have at the time. They don't self-train very well, either, so their implicit biases come out very clearly. When it comes down to it, honestly, you understand women as well as women understand women, except for the fact that you probably think analytically and they think intuitively. That intuitive thought is all that separates us.
I'm an intuitional thinker. I'm also confused as to why everyone finds women so "un-understandable". I have no problems of the sort. I have difficulty understanding guys a lot of the time, though.

WinMX uses a completely proprietary (and closed, sadly) protocol, but one that they're constantly upgrading. One of these days they might get it to a stage where they're content with it, and open it up... Maybe. I hope. Until then, it's still the best damn swapping service out there. Yay WinMX.
PVRs can be set to only record the middle 400 scanlines of TV or whatever corresponds to the amount of data being sent. Then, no adverts, and an even easier algorithm for removing them. This is a really great idea...
Why don't you anti-corporate-abuse Slashdotters just boycott technology altogether? That'd certainly save some effort as to remembering which companies we're buying from this week, and which ones were picketing.
Yeah, sure, this'll get modded down, but the 'boycott everything' tactic achieves no purpose, as most people don't give a red rat's ass about creating a clone of battle.net, as Blizzard has created a service which is free and stable.
Next on Slashdot: Boycotting the Catholic Church...
Someone else has probably already refuted your sig, but here goes.
It's all fine until you square-root both sides. Then, you get +/-1=+/-1, where +/- is "plus or minus", as a positive or negative number squared is positive, thus any number square-rooted returns both positive and negative values.
This raises a really great point. If, taking Intel at their word, all DRM is inherently tamper resistant, not tamper proof, would it not follow that the only people who will be affected, negatively or otherwise, by DRM would be J. Random User, not J. Random Pirate, who is the one creating mass copies and actually hurting the whole industry.
Never mind the fact that whenever you release a program to decrypt a given information stream, you implicitly distribute its source code, albeit mixed with data, and in difficult to grasp form. And if people want the information, they'll reverse-engineer the software. Now, when Intel and AMD start implementing encryption on executables, then we start getting afraid. That is, until someone reverse-engineers the encryption...
Even as evil as the US government can be, it is more than the threat of an audit that keeps most Americans from cheating on their taxes. It is the belief that at its core, our government is providing us with valuable services that we should pay for. It is the understanding that if we don't do our share, others will suffer.
Maybe all Americans are far more left-wing than Canadians, but I know that here in Canada, it is the threat of Revenue Canada and only the threat of Revenue Canada that keeps businesses paying taxes. I know several people in a bizarre legal loophole called "Common Status", wherein the government can't extract income tax from you. They flock to this status without reservation.
Eh... With increases in storage capacity and bandwidth, as well as both availability and ubiquity, I'd venture a guess that FastTrack is bigger than Napster was. WinMX seems pretty damn big too. Note that FastTrack also is host to a semi-burgeoning warez scene. It's not as big as IRC yet, and all the archives are self-extracting executables, but once the word gets out...
Trolls and orcs are not related. Trolls were created in mockery of ents, while orcs were elves twisted by Melkor. As such, they are not related. And yes, I have no life... =)
Not taking me seriously is the first step towards mental health.
Bleh. The questions sucked. There were obvious non-answers and the like. A friend's parent got it when it first came out, he told me about it, and I got through it on my first try with just plain old intuition. Back when I had no idea what sex really was.
I hope that's just a use of the subject for jest, because despite the correlations of the two terms, being well-rounded results in sharpness.
A well-rounded person is acquainted with more than one discipline. Therefore, he is able to synthesize information from the two vocations and devise new, previously unheard of ideas from these two different walks of life. This sort of intuition is my definition of sharp. It doesn't matter where one learns the information, just so long as they know and understand it. The synthesis will come automatically to solve a problem in one of the fields. Having two fields that are somewhat related help. Having more than two fields will allow for more idea synthesis, as the synthesizor has a broader knowledge base.
A case in point is something I read in a book a while back: Some enterprising programmers managed to make an AI that was programmed with a background basic logic, and from there would derive proofs. After copious amounts of processor time, the programmers looked at the proofs. _All_ had been found before, and the thing that set the human-made proofs apart was that they combined more than one field of science.
There are more, I'm sure, but I don't have the time to search... A friend's got a soccer finals game that I want to catch.

MP3s are not shit if you don't use Napster. Napster is for all the little kiddies who can't tell LAME MP3s from Xing MP3s, and 128 from 192 kbps. If you want good quality, check out IRC. Napster sucks for quality. MP3s are excellent quality, however, _if_ you look around a bit.
I don't agree with Libertarian policy in one critical area. They believe that corporations will not do wrong, and uphold justice. If not, sue them. Well, then, what about corps dumping toxic sludge into the oceans?
I believe strongly in minimum wage. Why? Obviously you've never had to live off minimum wage. Hell, I think it should be even higher than the present $8.15 in BC here. My father (an employer of a dozen or so people) also believes it should be raised. What's the harm in doing so? Honestly? Sure, it increases the prices of certain commodities, but other than that, it helps to equalize wealth. Wealth _ought_ to be equalized. There will always be the leeches on society that try to get a free ride. I know that they exist. But what about those who _cannot_ support themselves? There _are_ people like that, in that position for _valid_ reasons. Minimum wage helps these people.
Why are people more entitled to wealth than others? Due to an initial imbalance in the wealth that gave them better education? Due to circumstance, hitting it big on the stock market or somethign similar? Or merely being the first corporation in an area (Eg. Microsoft)? Or being able to force your product on people? (RIAA)
I think the wealth should be redistributed to the point where the lowest-class in society can live comfortably. Due to the wealth structure in countries nowadays, this can be implemented without taxing the middle-class more.
Who are _YOU_ to say that people are not entitled to a comfortable living? Do _YOU_ not appreciate it? Then why are you so heartless to say that if they're poor due to circumstance, they're SOL? I know, I'm pointing fingers, and sounding upset, but this is a major issue. Apathy solves nothing. Sympathy makes the world a better place. Chill, and let everyone enjoy a decent lifestyle.
And yes, I know... it's a federal republic. Triviality. Federal Republicism is, for all intents and purposes, a subset of the bigger picture called "democracy". Perfect democracy is a different thing. This is pedantic, however.
Ya know what I think we should go back to? City-states. Where every city decides on its own laws. Bind them together with a nice Constitution or something, and let them be. Let there be Communist city-states and Capitalist city-states side by side. Allow them to control immigration, but not emigration (of people, wealth may need to be a different story). Etc.
Anyways...
Big business & capitalism in general is the last remaining vestige of "open" totalitarianism. The workers have little/no say, and a few people (namely, shareholders) tell them what to do. The workers, due to the fact that they want to keep their job, listen to the people in charge. Jobs are not a commonplace thing, at least here in Canada. You tend to like to keep a job. Sure, you can always tell them to go [censored] themselves, but what happens when these smaller companies merge into bigger companies?
Until capitalism is gone, we're going to work in dictatorships, mostly. Why? Because they're efficient. There is very little bureaucracy in a dictatorship. Also, when only one person (or only a few) has a say in things, they tend to be passed with much less compromise than otherwise.
The only right that has been lost is the right to democracy in one's workplace. Until this is granted, we're not living in a democratic state at all, rather in a weird hybrid where we're socially democratic, but economically totalitarian.
Whether or not you consider this a big loss is completely up to you. Hopefully this has provoked a little thought. My logic is likely flawed in spots, and I'm sure people will point them out, but think about it a bit. That's all I ask.
