  1. How to prove it? on Google Smashes the World Record For Calculating Digits of Pi (wired.co.uk) · · Score: 1

How can we make sure that the digits are even correct? What would prevent an algorithm to generate random numbers after some millions of valid digits?

I'm 40, had glasses since I was 4 and I had LAZIK done 1 year ago. Waking up and seeing immediately clear was the most moving change I noticed. Getting your son waking you up and seeing him clearly is awesome. And I also had to loose a lot of reflexes about getting my glasses first thing when I woke up, trying to find them after the shower, .... It took time but they're mostly gone. As someone who does quite a bit of sport now, it's so much better without glasses. Especially when I sweat a lot. And also wearing any type of sunglasses, not only the ones more costly that had lenses adapted to the view.

They explore Europa by drilling into the ice layer and using a submarine to navigate the water below. Interesting books for sci-fi fans!

  11. Good news, no? on Spammers Establish Fake URL-Shortening Services · · Score: 4, Interesting

So if you block the fake URL-shortening domain with an "ad-blocker" or at the browser level (à la Google Chrome), you avoid pretty simply the redirection to the spam side, without having to block the legitimate URL-shortening sites. Or am I missing something?

  12. Belgium on Programming Jobs Abroad For a US Citizen? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Most people in Belgium, and especially in Brussels, speak English quite well. And due to the language issues with the 2 Belgians communities (Walloon/French and Flemish), they end up speaking English together if one doesn't speak the other's language. A lot of nationalities are working in Brussels, we have a lot of agencies from the European Union and a lot of US companies have a local office in Brussels. Google for "expat brussels" will give you a lot of links for specialised websites. And don't forget beers and chocolate! ;-)

I had the opportunity to deploy Pointsec on the site I was managing. It went really good, with only minor issues with 2 laptops (out of 20+ computers). They were resolved quite easily and without any loss of data. And BTW I never had any issues with their VPN client either :-) .

Actually this is quite a good idea.

Google or the government should ask to have high-res pictures of the whole area taken by satellites or high-altitude planes (U2, SR-71) and have them integrated in Google Earth. So hundreds of people could start looking for the missing plane ... or the wreckage.
