    I'm sure this thing would suck off the car's power, right? So just send the state a bill for the estimated cost, and throw on some BS charges, totaling in the hundreds or thousands of dollars. I wonder how the state'll like it.

    #1. The story makes it seem as if the seats were removed because of the trouble he was causing them. If that is the case, why did they eliminate the other seats.

    Because the other seats are sources of potential trouble.

    #2. How many "publically elected" seats are left? The story just says they eliminated 5 without elaborating.

    None. From the summary: "...ICANN has given Karl Auerbach the boot by eliminating his seat as well as the four other publicly elected seats on ICANN's board."

    We needed new trade routes because the existing land ones were too expensive. We had the existing land ones as a result of the Crusades and the changes it brought about. The Crusades were about religion, but when people found out "hey, we can make money on cool crap we find" they also said "Wonder what else we can get?"

    Curiosity? I guess, in a way. But more of greed.

    Yes, but _why_ did the government give him the money? They thought it would make them rich.

    Yes, it was government funding, but it was for the same reason. Later voyages, and a good deal of colonization, was privately funded.

    NASA is doing this for science, and they are publically funded.

    The explorers did it in order to find/establish trade routes, and had a lot of private monies.

    See the difference? Money.

    The ability described here, and what they're looking for in the test, is what's called "Theory of Mind." It's believed that autistic children are unable to develop this skill, and therefore are unable to answer the question correctly.

    Anyone read the Cookoo's Egg (by Clifford Stoll) lately? He briefly talks about "Sensitive but unclassified" and how it was a problem back then (read the book) when they LACKED such a definition, and the need for one.

    So I guess there's another side to the arguement...who would've thought?

    I _believe_ that is probably because Gentoo ownz. ;) Compiling from source definitly helps speed it up, while the precompiled binaries used in Mandrake don't have that advantage. (I say this because when I use the precompiled binaries for KDE (used, I should say, since this was at least 2 months ago), my system was slow as hell...I compiled from source, and I got an amazing improvement.)

    Try using something like WindowMaker or Blackbox/Fluxbox. I'd expect KDE to lag like hell, with those specs.

    Not to troll, but KDE is bloat. It's not intended for systems such as yours.

    I was thinking of that, but, if you only have a few gigs, you could use a backup system, making a copy of the contents in RAM to a mass-storage device before you reboot. Assuming you don't reboot much, it wouldn't be too much of a hastle.

    Why not just use a whole crapload of RAM? RAM is incredibly cheap these days, after all. I'm sure that, if a company wanted, they could create a custom design that would hold a few gigs in a small space.

    However, you've still got the problem of the spinning CD. I don't think that'll change anytime soon.

    Apple tried that. They lost.

    Basically, Apple licenced the right to use a look-alike GUI to Microsoft for MS Windows. Apple interpreted it as meaning, "For Windows 1." When Microsoft released updates, with the lookalike GUI, Apple sued. The courts sided with Microsoft, and that's why Microsoft is able to pretty much copy their entire GUI from Apple.
