    Thursday?!

I thought this was a slip until I glanced over my calendar and realized that you're right.

Has there ever been a movie that opened on a Thursday before (not including special premieres)? I'm only familiar with Wednesday's and Friday's. Odd move.

  2. Re:dog eaters should be put in coincentration camp on Korea Replacing 120,000 Windows with Linux · · Score: 1

Thanks for the well thought out reply, but here's the truth.

This is off-topic, but I believe it has to be said:

AFAIK, back when Korea was a poor country, meat was scarce, so it was hard for many to afford meat; especially of the bovine variety, which would explain why majority of Korean dishes rely heavily on vegetables. The next best thing was probably pig and unfortunately dog (not sure if it was the domesticated kind or not, but it was dog). Anyway, that was then and they're not as poor as they used to be.

However, now, even though I've been told that it's "against the law" in South Korea to eat dog, I'm sure there are still places where they still do (since it's probably not enforced).

And yes, I'm Korean: born there, but raised here in the States. Never ate canine, never care to. But for others who have.. maybe it's just a part of old culture that can't be shaken? Who knows, but it's probably easier for me to understand (yet still not condone), than for someone who is not from Korea.

Food for thought (no pun intended).

Any comments or criticism is welcome.

I read somewhere on ign.com that Microsoft was spending more than $400 million alone on advertising. Alas.. IGN's search engine sucks, so I couldn't find the link. :P

However, I was able to get a snippet from another site which stated:

"That's why so much is riding on the Microsoft Xbox gaming console and why the company is expected to spend ten-billion dollars over five years just manufacturing the box itself, and a half-billion dollars in advertising and marketing in first eighteen months after launch. "

I believe Nintendo's advertising budget is only a tenth of that number, which seems plausible since they have no need to establish a name in the video game market as much as Microsoft does.

    This was funny.

I was expecting some very cool cel shading like the Zelda that was shown at Nintendo Spaceworld.

What I got was something much better! Kudos to the originator.

But in the video game world (especially home consoles) "exclusive" titles are usually interpreted as exclusive until they feel like porting it over to another system (usually a year) or when a system is on it's last lifeline.

Remember when Resident Evil: Code Veronica was exclusive for Dreamcast? Now it's on PS2 and will be headed to GameCube.

Speaking of which, for those who didn't know, Capcom announced plans to make the whole Resident Evil series GameCube EXCLUSIVE, both past and future titles.

This includes the once exclusive Dreamcast RE:Code Veronica. Fun, ain't it?

That's what everyone said about Nintendo before Playstation came out. :)

And you're right, PS2 is good, but not great. I have a PS2 and I love it for 4 reasons: GT3, SSX, backwards compatibility and DVD playability. Waiting for 2 more reasons: Final Fantasy X and Metal Gear 2.

Only appealing to 10 year olds? Nobody knows. We'll see when NCG comes out.. and it is the ONLY next-gen console to have exclusive Resident Evil games heron in as stated by this article from IGN.

I too am looking forward to JSRF (and definitely DOA3), but that's exactly why I'm still not sure if I will get an XBox. These are games produced by 3rd party companies (Sega and Namco respectively), not 1st (or even 2nd, for that matter). Where are the killer apps from FIRST party development houses? Is Halo the only candidate (and even that had to be bought)?

I will take my chances and wait in hopes that they will port them over to other consoles (or even PC). It may be exclusive at launch, but who knows what will happen in the months to follow?

And even if they don't. Oh well, I'll just make friends with XBox owners to play. They're just 2 games anyway. :)

  10. Re:Not a big deal... on XBox Delayed · · Score: 1

I wouldn't doubt that one bit.

Last 2 times I went to EB (2 different locations), a few of the sales staff were ALREADY recommending XBox over NCG (or even PS2) to anyone inquiring about which systems were worth buying now and in the future. They only have to mention hardware specs to the unsuspecting, and most likely uninformed, general public to make an easy M$ sale.

The games for each respective system weren't even mentioned once, despite PS2 already being out with a few great games and more on the way, and also NGC just being released in Japan. Seems they don't give enough details which each respective system for potential customers to make an informed decision.

Ridiculous. Do these guys get commision off of each XBox they sell (even before it's out), or what?

  11. Re:Perfect Dark is as expensive as PC games on XBox Delayed · · Score: 1

More like $300. I believe the estimate was a bit of an exaggeration.

It's $30 for the official RAM expansion and you can forget about the $50 for a Game Boy Camera because that option got taken out at the last minute. Oh, and I believe everyone has a TV. So that $300 amount is moot.

Actually, if you can get the Transfer Pak alone for $20, then the total is really $270. Which seems to be still cheaper than just the X-Box unit without any extras.

Not bad. Not great.. but not bad..
