I want to believe this headline and I'll go ahead and accept it for sake of argument -- but is it too little too late? Or are we going to become a living (dying?) example of why we haven't been able to detect signs of alien civilizations out there among the stars?
You're thinking along the same lines I was just thinking. One might have thought that 'art imitates life', and TV show scripts were getting ideas from what's happening in the FBI/HLS/NSA/etc, but perhaps it's the other way around, and not-too-bright LEOs are watching cop shows and thinking to themselves "Wow, I didn't know I could get Google to give me all that information, I'll have to try that some time!".
Listen yourself. I am not your "buddy", and the arrogant and insulting tone of your use of that term is not acceptable.
Tough. Welcome to the Internet, buddy. You think you can waggle your virtual finger at me and have any effect at all? Think again. Hell, I doubt you could do that in person and have any effect except to get laughed at by me.
To expand on what I meant when I said 'partner with ReactOS', is Steam helping them along to develop their product to a full stable release state faster than they would otherwise.. but as the commentor above you pointed out, my idea of running that in a virtual machine would likely experience performance issues that would make it a deal-breaker.
I don't totally agree with all your conclusions but I also don't think you're totally wrong either. I think that critical thinking skills can be taught from a young age with varying degrees of success, and 'deferring to authority' as a reflexive default is one of the things that's destroying our country.
Listen, buddy: if your Very Large Social Media Website was being used to not only promote violence against an ethnic group, but more or less being used as a C&C server for people to organize their attacks, wouldn't you think about pulling their access entirely if you couldn't stem the flow of site-policy-violating content? They're essentially using Facebook to commit murder and the Myanmar government is all for it. You can't stop the killing in Myanmar but you can stop them using YOUR WEBSITE to help them do it. Does that put things in perspective for you a little better, or at least give you a better idea where I'm coming from?
The only way to stop hate speech is to eliminate internet anonymity and to generally forbid all speech on the internet that is not preemptively cleared by censors before publication.
..okay buddy, stopped reading right there.
Not suggesting that. What I am suggesting is that since Myanmar apparently can't follow Facebook policies, and the problem is rampant, that perhaps they should just disable Myanmar access to Facebook for a while, until the problem is 'handled'. I mean for fuck's sake they're essentially using Facebook as a C&C server for attacking and killing these Rohingans, and the Myanmar government doesn't give a fuck about it. Wouldn't you make an exception in an extreme case like this?
You know.. if I see something on a legitimate news site that sounds outrageous or out of step with reality in some way? I look elsewhere to see if it's being reported accurately (Snopes is good for this). Most people? Not so much, apparently. Stop using Zuckerbook and other so-called 'social media' as a news source, for starters! Then apply this Magical Thing called 'critical thinking', and (shocker!) common sense. There, was that so hard?
If Facebook is basically fighting a flood with a broom then perhaps they should just not allow anyone in Myanmar to use Facebook for a while. Assuming, that is, that Facebook is actually serious about prohibiting "violent or dehumanizing" attacks on ethnic groups, as they say.
What's worse, is there's no one there to raise them, if you did!
I'm saying this, and all this science I don't understand? It's just my job, five days a week.
There's such a thing as 'decaffeinated coffee', and coffee in general has some positive health affects, and if you drink decaf then there's NO downside to it.
So, how long have you been a vaping addict? Any other history of substance abuse? Alcoholism? Meth addiction?
Kinda fun-sounding science, but frankly this sounds like something someone who is stoned would start doing, sitting there for hours on end, breaking pieces of dry spaghetti, one at a time.
Not attracting criminals is one thing, but nosy-ass government and law enforcement types can fuck right off, and if not then perhaps they get sued for harassment. The United States may be under internal siege right now and is pretty fucked up, but it's still the United States. If you live in some other country and are reading this, then Your Mileage May Vary, of course.
Sure, and what I'm saying is that they know it's garbage and they're selling it anyway because otherwise they know investors and stockholders will crucify them. Meanwhile if it's anything involving possible harm to or loss of human life (e.g., self-driving cars) their legal departments have assured them that the projected losses from paying out settlements will be trivial compared to the profits.

Wow, China ripping off everyone else and calling 'their innovation'? Nah, that's just crazy talk!

The performance issue is a good point, games are very demanding even of modern systems.
I'm still fairly wet-behind-the-ears when it comes to Linux (learning curve, gentoomen) but would the above be a viable path?

Thanks, Buzzkill Lightyear.
Trump likely has no fucking idea what the NIST does but he's willing to kill their budget. Fucking brilliant.
I'm kinda wondering, considering how Indian cars and trucks are made, if wood will be one of the construction materials in their space vehicles?

Oh look, the vape addicts had mod points and I pissed them off! Would someone who is NOT a vaping addict and has mod points please fix that? Thanks.
Don't quit your day job.

Know what's the best and most pleasant thing to inhale into your lungs? CLEAN AIR. Knock all this shit off and stop damaging yourselves, people.
Know what happens when nobody sticks up for their civil and human rights? They get taken away. Stop being a lilly-livered yellow-bellied coward.
