Update your phone (OS 4.5) & Google maps. Verizon unlocked GPS for the Pearl 8130 shortly after the Storm shipped, and it required a code change in Google maps (regular GPS is unlocked, assisted GPS is still locked to VZNav).
I was stuck in Dallas Ft. Worth because of a delay on a connecting flight. When I was near my gate, I noticed a few ad-hoc networks, one labeled "Free Internet" and another one labeled "BFW" (I guess they didn't know the correct airport code):)
I was surprised no one tried to use "T-Mobile" as their SSID (since DFW has a Starbucks Wi-Fi point).
If all the drivers are signed with certs, does that mean I can maintain a black list of driver manufacturers that I don't want to install on my machine? For example, Sony's rootkit driver?:)
Why did Microsoft go to such great lengths to get all of the original Xbox games that sold well in Japan to have emulation on the 360, while there are numerous popular American releases that are not playable on the 360?:)
Plus, the original XBox had ways of identifing each console (and banning them from Xbox live if they were modded) -- I'm sure the boot loader for all the released software could contain the serial numbers of these consoles, and refuse to run non-demo software these units, just in case they are stolen.
It's called the recovery console, and its been available since Windows 2000.
Boot from your XP/2k media, and select "Repair an existing installation with the recovery console" (its buried somewhere in the installer).
Or, you can install it to your Win2k/XP boot loader menu by running:\i386\winnt32/cmdcons
It has quite a bit of functionality; you can disable services, devices, and make changes to the file system. Since it's only a command console, very little of the OS is loaded.
I think the real question is will the success of WoW affect the piracy rate of games? =)
There's no way to play on Blizzard's servers without paying the monthly fee, and I know quite a few WoW players where WoW was one of their few legitimate purchases in a LONG time... and since they've started, they haven't bothered downloading any other "gamez"
I was thinking about picking up this phone, till I went to a local Verizon store to look at it.
The keypad construction is VERY poor, infact if you place your thumb on the center of the keypad, you can slide the keypad around. Also, the keys themselves were starting to fall off the phone. The sad thing is, they had just put out the phone in the morning! I'm not signing into another 2-year contract when the phone won't last 1 day of abuse at the store.
Also the phone's battery was dead, and when the store employee hooked it up to the charger, the phone locked the interface. I don't know if that was because the battery was completely drained, or if that was the standard charging behavior of the phone).
The nightly builds of AdBlock seem to work fine for me under FireFox.9 and.9.1. (Although I did run into the "please wait while Mozilla finishes installing your extension" bug when upgrading from a previous version of AdBlock on my Mozilla.9 install -- but.9.1 fixes that issue)
Maybe in an attempt to recover some of the money, they'll stop sending me the bill for the wireless account that I closed over a year ago that has a balance of -$.17 (I've called them repeatedly about this, and every time they assured me that it would be taken care of - its not like I need to collect on the 17 cents):)
You'd think they would have deducted the cost of the stamp from the "credit" my account shows...

The 8130 OS 4.5 ("device software") can be downloaded from http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/ and Google Maps can be updated from http://m.google.com/maps Kormac
I think /. is worth more than $.01 ;)

As an American gamer, I'm pissed...

It even runs Linux! (and is hackable to have it do all kinds of extra stuff)
