"Assume you are a "completely inocent person" who bought a 2nd-hand car. Later it turned out the previous owner drowned it, so it is all rusty inside, does not drive, breaks, etc. Would you blame the car manufacturer or the person you bought it from for this?" That's a very different case. Someone who gets their XBox modded isn't causing inherent damage to the system. The XBox works just fine, but Microsoft is choosing to punish people for taking that action. That makes the issue much less clear-cut, and given the motives behind the people at Microsoft for instituting this policy, i would place the blame more on their heads.
The direct example is someone whot bought a second hand car that had been chipped / ECU modded and didn't know.
They then have a prang and insurance refuses to pay out because it's been modded and not declared. It's not their fault, they didn't know, but then again ignorance is not in excuse in law so it's down to th epurchaser to be knowledgeable and check these things.
Of course if they ask the question and $vendor lies, then they have a case, but it's messy
Did you notice if it has a 6-pin JP1 [hifi-remote.com] interface inside the battery door?
No interface as such, but there is a 3x2 grid of solder points on the board, which suggests (From 5 minutes on above link) that we can add one quite easily.
Would be a tight fit, but looks promising. If wanted could take a snap with the old digicam and let the experts decide?
It says it has a pushbutton remote "feel" but the surface looks flat to me.
Got one of these in the UK a week or two ago, and it definately has a button feel. It's hard to describe, but it's almost like it has a high density jelly/fluid feel to it. Certainly not flat, and where the buttons appear/disappear there is a distinct tactile feel.
It does look cool, and the auto-on motion detection is a nice touch.
Mostly yeah, however have to put it on the mantel when watching DVD's as the Bass from the subwoofer shakes the floor/table too much so won't turn off!
Had to have a look to see what the fuss was all about, all I could see is the reason it's in the Top 5. It's a great theme.
Point of interest to Enlightenment users;
The theme is still up on the link to http://e.themes.org/ , and then click on Aqua in the Top 5 list on the left
PS: I think this sucks of fat cat overkill, and abuse of power. But I won't go on as others have expressed the same opinion in a much better way than I ever could.
I've been running an NTL cable modem for the last couple of months and in general is spot on, the speeds are great, however it's all overshadowed by a couple of points;
1) Yet again the product was rushed out to compete with BT. Resulting in little or no training to the support, sales, and engineering team.
The customer services staff didn't know where to route my calls, the sales guy who had made an appointment specifically to discuss CM had no idea, even as far as pricing, and the engineer who called to install took my word on what he was required to install.
2) Again insufficient planning was put into their network, with daily router crashes, reported packet loss over the LINX, ridiculous primary DNS that insists on dishing out 6 month old info (and yes the host ISP and Nominet have got it right), and flakey Inktomi Cache servers that you are forced through.
I've been lucky in most respects, and with recent price drops can bear most things, certainly better value for money than dial up, but just shows how more thought needs to be but into this kind of roll out. Personally I take my hat off to these companies that have pulled the plug on a DSL roll out, maybe they've learned a lesson?
I agree, I would willingly pay to get a nice professinally burned CD / hell even floppy of a classic game. I grew up playing Defender on my BBC, and scrimping pocket money to pay for UKP 1.99 Budget Tapes on my Speccy.
I appreciate that Budget is still available, and certainly in the UK some labels have tried flogging 'Classics' at UKP5 a go. But I just can't find the gameplay in the titles that are available.
With the the low cost / MB of disk space, and even the decreasing costs of bandwidth I don't see why people that hold the rights can't make these games / apps available. E-Commerce gurus scream at us about the benefits of micro-payments and the fact that it's the future, so why not download at UKP 1-2 a go (even I can afford that risk) and bill it monthly to your credit card, nothing to loose, the costs of hosting and then some could be made back, and I would (for once;-) ) feel proud to playing it legitimately instead of creeping round the backdoors of virii and porn.
Well, that's my 2p worth, off to dig out my copy of Dune II.
Wow, nearly got me there, mind you these look and feel copyrights sound great,if you won you'd be making money 'Andover fist'so to speak (Sorry, couldn't resist).
Mind you strikes me as a great way to make some easy money, coupled with a few fake posts on Usenet slagging myself off (worth at least £15,000 from my ISP) I'd be sorted in days.
