I can understand people wanting a stable webpage. Especially when the rest of the world, real and virtual, is in chaos. But I do agree that you can't expect stability from a webpage that someone else controls.
Of the 3 browsers that are ahead of Opera, 2 are shipped with their OSs, and the other gets massive press, especially among geeks. It's not that Opera's unpopular, it that the competition has advantages.
Also, Its pretty common for evolution to stop for some species, crocodiles and sharks being cases where very little has changed for millions of years. Dawkins covers this in The Blind Watchmaker, explaining why populations have to be separated and in different environments for one species to evolve from another.
That reminds me of a conversation I once had with someone:
Him: If evolution is true, why haven't cockroaches evolved? Me: Cockroaches can survive a nuclear disaster. They don't NEED to evolve.
I didn't get a cellphone for instant availability. In fact, I don't have instant availability WITH a cellphone. 90% of the time, if someone wants to contact me, they'll call my homephone or workphone. My friends know there are many times I won't answer my cellphone (in a meeting, driving in heavy traffic, out with GF), and they'll have to wait until I get back with them.
Likewise, I have no need for MyFace or SpaceBook, for the simple reason that my RL friends & familiy aren't on them. I have a few internet friends who are, but they're also on other sites, and that's where I interact with them.
Posting your information online makes it IMMEDIATELY available to EVERYBODY. Talking to someone in a one-on-one situation only makes your information available to one person whom you know. Would you tell a mugger or a house robber that you plan on spending the next week-end out of town? You might as well if you post it to facebook.
But, I'd also mention that I keep a pet Siberean tiger in the front room, and two crocodiles in the back.
Ten years ago, the Republicans were still new to being in power. The Dems had been in control for 40 years and it was easy to claim to be fiscally conservative & pro-freedom. 8 years ago, that changed and the Repubs showed their true colors.
I'll also add that the Dems are no better, but for a short time, until Obama gets in with a Dem Congress, they'll be in a good position to fool voters into thinking that they're the "good guys".
As I understand it, if Tivo used a different technique of doing on TV than was used in other media, it's patentable. If Dish used a different technique of doing it on TV than Tivo did, Dish should be okay. But if Dish just copied Tivo's patented technique, then Tivo was right to stomp them.
Speed as an absolute number is meaningless without taking into account road conditions
Very true. One of the highways I used to take to work had a 65 MPH limit, but between the heavy rush-hour traffic and some road work they were doing at the time, it wasn't safe to do over 60, or even 50 some places. Without the traffic, I could do 75 easily, at night.
The highway I drive to work on has a 55 MPH limit. Several highways here have 65, but the only time I've seen 70 is when going out of town. 80 is still 10 MPH over that limit.
The kind of kids who will do that, will run the car as fast as possible anyway, just because it's "fun". The speed limiter might not help (considerably less than 80 in school zone == death), but it won't hurt either.
The bad thing is, I'm likely to be fighting both OSs. Linux can often be a PITA to install, and a lot of stuff is likely to not work right. Windows annoys the h*ll out of me with messages, antivirus usually sux, and a lot of stuff is likely to not work right.
It's not a question of finding an OS that doesn't suck, it's a question of which types of suckage I can deal with.
Of course, I imagine your point is that you're not appropriately trained to do legal analysis, though you may or may not be trained to do dentistry -- but even if you are, it's hard to drill on your own teeth.
Maybe, but I've had good luck with strings tied to doorknobs.
But everyone knows that everyone who doubts GW is in the pockets of BigOil (tm). All 30,000 of them. :-P

does the sun going down make you feel insecure?
Only in the daytime.
How about running water....does that make you unstable?
How much running water? And is it heading towards me?
When the wind blows do you get panicky?
Again, how much wind? And what's upwind from me?
Vista has the same problem.
Actually, I'm in favor of that idea.
Well, I bet those people don't get many email virii.
I thought Jason was FIRED.
I suspect Chrome beta has a better chance of reaching 50.1 % than RonPaul 1.0 does. :(
Until they outsource the Crome management?

Agreed! Never trust a party that doesn't involve booze.

Yeah, but if you google my /. name, you just get stuff about primitive cavemen. Though, now that I think of it, that MIGHT hurt me in the job market.

I don't know. If Dish did just copy Tivo's method, then Tivo is in the right.

If you're that close to the guy ahead, you don't HAVE any safety distance.
At my age, most of the stuff I learn is stuff I already knew.
