IMO 80+ bucks is pretty expensive. That's about what I pay, and I'd keep them at that price, but if they try to double or triple that, I'd cut off cable and switch to DSL!
I tried a LinuxFromScratch but I keep running out of disk space compiling glibc. Apparently their claim that you can compile a LFS on a 750MB partition is out of date (I have just under 1GB).
I never heard of having to destroy old ID. In fact, when my wallet was stolen, with my drivers license inside, I needed to show my prior license before they'd issue me a replacement.
"A national ID will just be another ID for people to steal.
No, it will be the only ID for people to steal, and if the national ID is done right, it will be a lot harder to steal than what we have now. "
Umm, what makes you think they'll do it any better than they do anything else? You are right about one thing: it's the only ID they have to steal, and once they do, you'll have loads of fun straightning out the mess!
1. Can the patient feed herself? If she can, she doesn't qualify.
2. Does she have family members who can feed her? If so, she doesn't qualify.
3. Can she afford to pay someone to feed her? If so, she doesn't qualify.
4. Can she sign the neccesary paperwork? If she can, she's not disabled enough. If she can't, then we're ready to pay - as soon as we have her signature.

"Enlightened self-interest is a very strong incentive to behave in ways that don't offend your source of income."
I used to think that, until I realized that 99% of businesses were NOT enlightened! Either they're too stupid to realize that they're alienating customers, or they don't care cause the decision makers have already got their $$$,$$$!
I've been working with computers for 15 years AND playing with computers at hime for 14 1/2 years with no wrist problem. What's my secret? I take breaks from constant typing/mousing. If my wrists are tired, I browse source listings, go to the john, grab my 15th Coke, and wait until my hands are rested before going back to the keyboard/mouse. Usually (not always), if you don't abuse your body, it won't abuse you.
Slimey Salesman: "May I help you?"
Me: "I'm just looking."
Slimey looks up my personal info, find out I read/. "May I interest you in Product XYZ? 4 out of 5 geeks recomend it"
Me: Eyes light up. "Really! Err, I mean I might be interested, but I'll have to research your product first"
Slimey: "Windoze users hate it"
Me: "Really! I don't need to research! I trust you! I'll buy whatever you say!"
Reinstalling the OS may be MUCH easier than recreating all my personal data (assuming my backups suck like most peoples do). Linux is much better than Windows in virus protection, but a user-level virus would still be very bad.
The lobotomy isn't neccesary. My user already believes everything I say. OK, maybe he had the lobotomy before I ever got to him. So have a lot of users out there.
Grandma[1] doesn't have root access. She just does email, web browsing, and stores her cookie recipes. If she needs new software, I install it. All she, or any virus she gets, can mess up is/home/grandma.
[1] I'm talking hypothetically, since Grandma doesn't have a computer, linux-based or otherwise.
Maybe science will eventually restore her sight, but does she really want to curl up in a useless ball between now and then? She really should learn braille so she can keep reading, and doesn't have two tons of unread books to wade through when/if she does get her sight back.
I use NT4 at work, and I'll admit that it closes the stability gap. I don't think it's as stable as Linux, but it doesn't crash enough to p*ss the average consumer off. However Doze is still way behind Linux for security! XP's latest problems prove that! That doesn't mean Linux distros should sit on their @$$es; most distros still suck security-wise. IMO, the real strength of Linux isn't stability or security; its control. With Linux, I'm in control. I don't worry about my software "phoning home", and I don't worry about forced upgrades. I wouldn't market the "free" aspect too hard; the home user thinks Doze is free cause it comes with his system, the business man thinks Linux is expensive cause he has to hire an expert. But the Linux user doesn't have to worry about what a big, greedy monopolist will pull next!
I installed kernel 2.4.15 and it ate my data. Can I sue Linus?
If you have to ask the question, you probably shouldn't do it.

Also, even if Fox were rabid right wingers, they're only one station compared to left-wing ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN etc.
I like Slackware's installer and FreeBSD's, but Debian's still sux!
Nope! The first thing I did when I got to Chapter 6 was delete the sources except for the kernel.

2.2r anything is still Potato, and by now the Potato is rotting and starting to smell.
IIRC, 2.4.11 only bit the SuSe installer. 2.4.15 was the real "brown bag" release!
A gaseous laxative? Sounds like a weapon that's far too dangerous to actually use!

Yeah, that was one of my gripes when I was using W95. The message should say "Scandisk proceding because Windows crashed & burned again"

The difference is that Microsoft's crap is hard to swallow. Monsanto is trying to get us to swallow their crap!
Yes, but you don't have to pay again to use the !@#$ pen!
Yeah, but what if his other 190+ posts were all 5's? Yeah, I know it's unlikely, but we'll never know for sure! (there goes my karma)
