    I think of it this way: in a typical accident in my car, I'm unhurt except for the cost of fixing that dent in my car. In a typical airplane accident, I'm dead along with 100-200 other passengers. Does it matter that plane accidents are less common?

    Hey, I don't have kittens, so I'm sure Mrs Jones would be a great babysitter for my son. He's too young to talk, so she wouldn't have to worry about any false accusations, and he's accident-prone, so I wouldn't have to be suspicious of any marks on him.

    Also, if you're the 5 year old researcher thinking about telling on the evil Monsanto babysitter, consider that she has your father (the government) wrapped around her little finger and he won't listen to you. Your mother (the American public) is much more open-minded, but she's wearing the beautiful new earmuffs your corporate babysitter gave her, and she can't hear a word you say.

    Actually, given that the researchers are directly or indirectly in the pay of the corporations, it's more like depending on your 5 year kid to tell on his babysitter - in front of her - just before you go a long vacation leaving him with her.

    The important difference, however, is that we don't EAT Microsoft's products! If Microsoft fouls up Windows for greed, it poisons our computer. If Montsanto fouls up our food for greed it poisons US!

    Not neccesarily. If they truly started at the bottom, it had to be someone else's dirt floor! Anybody can wind up in a situation where they need a hand up (not to be confused with a handOUT).

    College helps a lot! But it doesn't substitute for real world experience. When I got out of college, I thought I was a real hotshot(tm). It didn't take very long to find out I was wrong.

    Before the forums were trashed, there was talk about someone starting another Slack forum. As far as I know, nothing became of that. The only place I know of is the alt.os.linux.slackware group mentioned on userlocal.

    How long will it take to get that replacement? When my ATM card was stolen, it took over a week to get a new one. Luckily I had enough cash to get through, but in a cashless system I would have been SOL!

    Ford is evil and makes their engines difficult to maintain so only they can fix them. They don't care about your hassles, only their $$$$!

    Foriegn competition is the ONLY reason American cars are less crappy than they used to be. They sure didn't improve out of the goodness in their hearts!

    I probably should have said a few thousand consumers COMPLAINING about it. If they get a bunch of complaints, there's sure to be far more consumers who are PO'd but too lazy to call. They'll still stop buying, and bad-mouth the company to their friends.

    Yes, but as a consumer, I have no interest in the corporations well-being. If I think they're trying to rip me off, they ain't getting my money! If a few thousand other consumers feel the same way, they'll change or die!

    And Chinese is better? Writen Chinese doesn't even use the "right" alphabet! I may not be able to spell worth a dam in English, but at least I understand the letters.
