  1. Re:Can't sue everybody on RIAA to Sue You Now · · Score: 1

    Someone mod this guy up!

Also something to make a note of.

"World-wide music sales dropped 5% last year, while global sales of compact-disc albums declined for the first time since CDs were launched in 1983. So far this year, U.S. music sales are down steeply from a sluggish 2001."

Does the big-5 lack common sense? One of the biggest reasons sales are down is its consumers are getting sick and tired of all the cookie-cutter made-to-sell bands they keep producing. Combine that with a maturing market sector who they once considered their bread and butter, we'll call them the Britney generation. As these kids mature they lose interest in their teeny-bopper ways. That's less CD sales in a nutshell. Oh, and the fact that we're in the middle of a recession AND A WAR, and of course people will be buying less.

Okay, I'm done ranting. Now for something constructive here. If the RIAA really wanted to sue someone for illegally trading IP on a P2P network, wouldn't they at some point need to connect an individual's name to the IP they were using? Umm, don't you need a court order? And doesn't that fall to the police? How are they going to be suing all of these people without getting the 5-0 involved for each and every case? The RIAA may have all the resources in the world to sue their userbase, but I somehow doubt all of the precincts in the US do.

    Just like in broadband eh?

Technology got cheaper, userbase got bigger, and yet prices are still climbing.

No. The ISO and W3.org would be the future counterpart. It was a "long time ago" hence being the past counterpart.

You are correct. Sideous refers to Dooku as Tyrannus.

Just because you didn't see him doesn't mean he didn't. In the scence where Anakin's mother dies, as Anakin starts the slaughter you can hear Qai Gon call out "Anakin, NO!" or something similar. Presumably to console him or to help him deal with the situation much as Obi Wan did for Luke.

"First, let me say, I'm not a kid. I'm 21..."

What's your point here? I'm 25 and I thoroughly enjoyed both films. I see your point in that a movie quality shouldn't be judged by its sales, but all in all they were both great films. But for decidedly different reasons.

  8. Tides of changes on Senate Committee Holds Webcasting Hearing · · Score: 4, Interesting

Perhaps its time for a new industry association to pick up the reigns the RIAA dropped? How about a new entity that's tech friendly who could sign new artists (its not impossible)? I'm sure most musicians wouldn't mind having new revenue streams to tap, its just more money in their pockets. All I'm saying is I wouldn't mind seeing someone defending the artists that had a clue and wasn't refusing to face the tides of change. By properly paying the artists the money they are due, and selling CDs at a decent price, online distribution could more than easily make up the slack of the lower prices/reduced profits that the RIAA has in place now. Online distribution/radio HAS to be cheaper than retail channels. Common sense says so. All that would really be needed is to sign the new acts the RIAA would like and slowly convert the currently popular ones. Who in their right mind would stay with the RIAA backed companies if they can see the greener side of the fence? (pun intended)

  9. An alternative on System Administrators - College or Career? · · Score: 1

I admit I haven't read all 7 pages, but from what I did see is nobody mentioned the alternative here. I'm in the military (USAF), and have been in for just over 5 years. Not only have I got some great experience and training, but I'm only 4 clases away from my degree.

chip makers to make their products in a way such that burned discs can not be read, but imports

Explain to me then how on would play games legally purchased and backed up (copied). Need I remind you this action is protected under United States Code Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 107 (aka Fair Use Act--only applies to US residents).

This goes for DVDs, CDs, etc. When is someone going to challenge region encoding/copying with this?

I've been wondering the same thing for quite some time now. Didn't their mammas ever tell them they can't have their cake and eat it too?

In all honesty, I think a class action suit is only a matter of time. Its getting to the point now where people are saying enough is enough.
