an LSI Megaraid should work quite nicely in Linux, I have an older AMI Megaraid Enterprise 1200 (model 428) with a couple of small disks as my linux disks (and one of them is my windows swapfile:)
damn commodore for being a bunch of mismanaging fuckwits.. bah!
If they'd kept the R&D flowing smoothly, the current Amiga's would probably resemble the Gamecube, from an architectural standpoint. and that would be really rather cool:)
the geforce4 is supposedly being announced early Febuary.
:))
(if you remember, the geforce 3 was shown off at Macworld tokyo last year, before anyone else saw it
In all honesty, why would you WANT to run linux on a machine rather than Darwin/Aqua ?
the only people that would, as far as I can tell, are the diehard open source zealots.. (I'm sure to get modded down for this.. ah well)
with the exception of all the BSD/linux source that'll compile without too much hassle..
Adobe will have Photoshop on OSX 'any day now'
the iApps that come with OSX..
etc etc..
damn straight, I believe the words MAXIMUM FAST apply Motorola should get their finger out and deliver the G5 though :)
you might find it interesting that Apple just (without telling anyone) released 933Mhz and 1Ghz PowerMac G4's
That would have the nasty side effect of driving any listeners with perfect pitch totally insane :)
except it isn't, on install you create an account with admin priveledges, the admin account is seperate from the defaultly logged account.
(in XP Pro at least)
it's kinda a moot point though, since admin rights == admin rights, no matter what the name of the account.
um, drivers for XP are the exact same as drivers for Win2k with the exception of the certification stuff in XP (which can be bypassed anyway)
of course.. a new OS will have new bugs that react slightly differently to those drivers.. so I guess I kinda agree...
having spent most of yesterday being disgusted with how sluggish KDE feels.. I have to disagree with that statement..
a GOOD gui should NOT make a 700Mhz P3 with half a gig of ram feel slower than an Amiga 1200 with 6MB of ram and a 68030 @ 28Mhz
well, THAT fucked up... links == SCSI RAID IDE RAID
fyi, you can have a couple ofo ddetail.html?prodkey=ASR-3410S&cat=%2fTechnolo gy%2fRAID%2fTwo+and+Four-Channel+SCSI+RAID">THE SE</a> is preferable.. especially for a server environment :)
but yeah, one of <a href="http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/product/pr

never had any problems with it whatsoever.
uh, the AlthonMP is _one_ speed grade (67Mhz) behind the top of the line XP
that's hardly 'ultra slow'
Exactly, the Althon leapfrogged Intel's implementation of the x87 fpu and left intel to go 'AH CRAP' in a high pitched scared voice.. :)
That's because you can only read/write to one drive in a master/slave set at once.
:)
that becomes a null point when you have them both as master on seperate channels
SCSI supports concurrent transfers, which is the OTHER reason it gives IDE the smackdown in heavy load situations.
top chip in SPECINT is clocked at 1.3Ghz right now (IBM Power4)
The 1.1 and higher Durons are the exact same architecture as the Althon XP/MP, with less cache.
If I remember correctly, Cyrix's numbering system WAS accurate if you were talking purely about integer code.
:/
they did have suckass 486 grade fpu's tho
G4 towers have fans in them... a big one over the cpu heatsink (and that entire area of the motherboard)
they are fairly quiet, but there IS a fan there.
it was Commodore's x86 division that eventually dragged them under however, the Amiga division was profitable.
I'm not entirely sure actually.
:/
finding good technical docs online for the amigaOS is something of a hurdle
(it wouldn't surprise me if they kernal WERE preemptable however)
It's okay, your not alone in missing the AmigaOS
:)

*cough*AmigaOS*cough*
:)
preemptive multitasking since 1985
?
I've seen an A3000 with a G4 500/68060 card in it?
(It was an A3000 tower tho')
