Most leaks are by insiders. It might be convenient to believe this was a Russian phishing attack, as that fits with the current narrative, but most likely it was a disaffected staffer.
For some years now, the media has lacked the revenues to afford investigative journalism. Instead, they have pursued propaganda. Now they are outraged that they have competition.
I was first a software pirate, and then a tape-trader. In the process, I became an advocate for (some) great software programs and musical artists, and by being involved with radio, zines and fans, spread them farther than they would have been if I had not done so. The same was true with software; I served as an evangelist for a number of really well-designed products, even if my own copy was more often than not cracked or pirated.
Underground metal music spread through tape-trading. We would dub songs or albums for friends and mail off the tape. In return, we would usually get a tape back. This was how you heard music that was too extreme to be sold in stores or played on most radio stations. As a result, piracy led to sales, at least among the hardcore fan base.
Technically, what we were doing was illegal (even before you get to the "send back my stamps" part, a bit of a postal hack that involves rubber glue). And yet, it enabled artists to flourish.
What I like about piracy is that it is natural selection. You buy only the apps that are useful or the music that really stays with you. That cuts out the mediocre and hopefully, they die out, just as happens in nature, although in this case "die out" means leave the market, although if they're real idiots maybe they should be dead or sterile at least.
So, as far as supporting "independent" musicians... I support good music. I buy it, and not digitally, but in physical form. I pass copies along to others. Most of them buy it too. This is fan-supported music, and any genre which is not this fanatical is probably just Muzak anyway.
When your audience are fanatics who will do anything to have the hip new gadget, it does not need to be good, only look good. Sort of like a politician.
It does not matter what groups are involved. It is not that they are bad, it is that diversity itself is bad.
Every culture wants to assert its own values, standards and goals. When multiple cultures co-exist in the same nation, the self-interest of each group clashes with the self-interest of the others.
This means that no one gets the society they want to live in, and social standards are pared down to the bare minimum. This creates an atomizing, alienating and fundamentally isolating society.
The only solution is to end diversity. Do not hate the players, hate the game.
Technology is the root of all that you mention, and it would have advanced anyway. We have wasted what it has given us on make-work jobs and useless activities which, whether your wife likes them or not, create bloat in this society. It might be time to realize that what you want is not the yardstick.
A lot of fawning adulation here for a manufacturer that produces machines with many hardware shortcuts that in theory compete with Linux. Bring back the nerd Slashdot and get rid of the SF version, please.
If we look at times when income inequality has been even higher than today, the 1800s are a good example: the wealthy elites enjoying the fruits of the industrial revolution paid little attention to the poor and starving masses, which eventually backlashed and lead to, among other things, the Russian revolution.
I disagree with your vision of history which seems to favor the Leftist point of view. In fact, as in pre-Revolutionary France, improvements in society led to the poor having more children, which then caused them to be starving as they had reproduced past carrying capacity. At that point, they revolted and in so doing, made their situation worse.
The effects of dysgenia are already manifesting and things are starting to get creepy...
Things are getting creepy in general because our civilization is collapsing, and when that happens, only untruths are tolerated which means that almost everything is a lie.
We have not only homegrown dysgenics (Idiocracy style) but the effects of a consumer population bent on pleasure (Brave New World style) combined with a constant third-world influx so that we may virtue signal our way to social success (see Camp of the Saints).
The result is that there is no way for this society to survive. The babbling over the UBI is just a way of keeping the groundlings fascinated and thus distracted while the kleptocracy takes anything of value that is left before the edifice falls.
90% of the work we're doing now...doesn't *need* to be done, but we do it anyway.
I am glad someone said this. I first read it in Houellebecq's Whatever, and was shocked by how flagrantly true it is. Most of what we do now is shuffling the desk chairs on the Titanic, hoping people will keep the money machine going.
The first small part of our work fulfils the basic needs like food water and shelter, then we carry on working in pursuit of higher needs, such as prestige and a sensation that we're fulfilling our potential. These needs are relative to what everyone else is accomplishing.
A slightly more nuanced view: whatever everyone has becomes mediocre, partially from our pretense and partially because the wider the appeal of any given thing, the less quality is invested in it. People are working to rise above the Herd because the Herd converts everything it touches into mediocre variants of the original.
unless you can get the tax abse to impliment it, it's a pipedream.
On Tuesday, November 8, 2016 enough people voted for Hillary Clinton that she won the presidency. During her first three months of office, she implemented a UBI and raised taxes to pay for it.
Under this plan, every household in America receives $30,000 a year. The USA is able to keep borrowing on the basis of the strength of its brand, and the $28 trillion debt is not going to be a problem because the government is in fact making money from this scheme: it borrows, pays out benefits, the population grows, and it gets more taxes, so it can borrow more.
However, the problem is that since $30,000 is pegged as the entry level that people can pay, costs catch up with this rate. Apartments that were once $500 a month are now $800 per month. Food prices go up as well. As a result, to live comfortably, you need about $40,000 per household minimum per year.
In 2020, the people will vote again. Whoever promises $40,000 a year in UBI will win, even though this is obviously a financial disaster for government as spending will have outpaced the borrow-spend-tax scheme.
Another problem has reared its head. Because America is now giving out free money, people are flooding across the borders. This means that government will need to pay more, to more people, just in order to keep this program going.
Parallels to Obamacare are mentioned for the first time.
Others point to the failure of European socialism. Yes, yes, there are all these great benefits... but we have to constantly bring in new people to work and be taxed to pay for the previous generation, which means that if population rises, the government goes bankrupt. The same problem afflicts the USA as it considers how to pay for the Millennials, the second-biggest generation ever.
Gift-giving programs like this always turn into runaway spirals.
His job is to sell you the idea of his company. In order to do that, he comes up with fanciful notions that will make you feel good so you think good things about him and his company. This is just advertising and has the same truth quotient as politicians kissing babies in front of cameras when in private, they eat babies. UBI is the socialist dream repackaged, and will fail for the same reasons Venezuela has fallen. When you give out money, it becomes less valuable. When you make it more difficult to acquire, it becomes more valuable. This value is measured in terms of what people will trade for it, not the denominations.
Post subject is the words you must utter for the Herd to have a vague inkling about what you are saying.
The US is tiny in population compared to China and India and there is no indication that the random melting pot in the US is genetically better suited for producing quality products. Hence, the center of international development will move to China and India -- it's inevitable just by the numbers. Additionally, many Chinese and Indians kids are striving (at their parent's insistence) to excel and learn to work hard at a very early age to get good grades etc. just as American kids are increasingly being praised for being "special snowflakes" and "the best you you can be" and getting "participation awards" just for showing up. It won't end well for Americans in HW/SW dev or IT unless we wake up (I don't think we will).
Dying empires always choose diversity which produces worse not better results, but enables them to import cheaper labor to their countries and, trading on the good name of those countries, to sell it at a higher rate.
It is how professional organizations make their money. If you are the client of a top firm, you expect that experienced personnel will be handling your case, but in reality it will be tackled by their newest low-level hires but billed as if top performers were doing it.
In the same way, companies in the US and EU use outsourcing to make profit. They get a name for providing a good product or service here, then take on tons of new business and hire it out to cheaper labor pools, with the excuse that their existing staff are "supervising" the process.
At this point, it is clear that both the US and EU are in terminal decline and so you are correct: we will not "wake up." You only get a society full of special snowflakes when it is oversold because it has lost what made it great in the first place.
These are basically glorified chat apps and scrapbooks for neurotic people to try to appear important online so they can ignore their failed lives. If they go away, what exactly is lost?
We know we cannot trust our media or any centralized service like censorship-prone Twitter, Facebook and Reddit. Best solution is to go back to NNTP.
Most leaks are by insiders. It might be convenient to believe this was a Russian phishing attack, as that fits with the current narrative, but most likely it was a disaffected staffer.
1. Build audience of people who buy products based on hype alone.
2. Make those products cheaper, crappier and more awkward.
3. ???
4. Profit!
In modern America, those who go to jobs are the losers; those who take the benefits, the winners.
To all media goodthinkers:
We need the sheep to stop deviating from the orthodoxy. Repeat "fake news" until the citizens cry for non-conforming news to be censored.
Sincerely, the Inner Party.
Anyone else think this is a bit Idiocratic, or pandering to the TV crowd? I can't take it seriously.

The media industry is a parasite. Bankrupt them by downloading their horrible music, movies and video games.
Soon you, too, will realize that modern life and its mass-culture products are empty of meaning.

We all want a society based on a certain model. "Tolerating" anything else means that no one gets what they want.

One of the better NWOBHM bands. Check out Night Flight (1981).
Popular revolutions are almost always led by elites. Remember the archetype of them all, the Magna Carta?

They promise equality, deliver an oligarchy of media, government and business elites.
Everyone but them ends up poor.
The society descends into third-world status.
Maybe, just maybe, we should stop basing politics on feelings/desires and focus on what works.
But then we would be Rightist.
