Most spam has a fake From: address. If you reply to it, your reply will either be undeliverable, or will go to the unlucky person whose email address was forged by the spammer. If the From: addresses were valid, getting rid of spam would be trivial.
Okay, I'm conflicted here because I tend to agree with you, and yet you insinuate that the post/poster to which you were replying was "clueless" - and then you proceed to make vague and quantifiable declarations without quantifying or citing anything/body - specificially, you claim that 'Most spam has a fake From: address' yet cite no statistics to back this up. Is this anecdotal, from your own personal experience with YOUR inbox, or did you see in a credible study that 51% or better of spam had invalid From: fields? If so, which one/where/by whom? I didn't think so...
Please note - I'm ignorant of facts in this area; again, I think you may be correct, but it's awfully assholish to lambast somebody (and the folks who agreed with him/her/it) for all the wrong reasons - ie, disagreeing with 'statistics' you've appparantly made up.
I know people are tired of hearing about this... but if the movie is going to be so huge, and so successful, and make such enormous bank for the studio and for Jackson, then please just put in Christopher Lee's seven minutes of Saruman footage.
Hey, yeah! Moz and IE both have undo - though in IE, it doesn't (that I can find) appear in the menus - you just have to trust in Ctrl-Z's mighty kung-fu.
Some user just posted an item how she highlighted her work and then hit 'backspace' and deleted everything. She wanted to know what we could do for her. 'Feel bad' was about all we could come up with. 'Laugh' was another, but we didn't think she'd like that.
Too bad your app was designed by amateurs, and didn't have an "undo" feature, eh?
Maybe someone should simply re-brand OpenOffice - call it something like "MS Office" (for "MeSoft", or whatever), or "M$ Office". Hell, even "NS Office" or "|\/|S Officer" might be just close enough to fool most people. Please don't sue me.
Again, if you like Buffy (and even if you don't), don't miss tonight's Firefly. This one deserves high ratings, but that can only happen if people know it's being aired. So now you know.
Actually, it doesn't matter how many of us watch. What matters is how many of us with Nielson boxen watch. Which raises the question, "how many Slashdotters have a Nielson box?"
What is there to "deal" with about people talking on phones? Do you also have to "deal" with people talking to the person next to them?
What's there to deal with?
Try this:
"Hello? Hello? Are you there? HELLO!?! Can you hear me now?!? YES! Three o'clock! No, THREE!!! THREE!!! ONE-TWO-THREE! Can you hear me NOW?!? I'M LOSING YOU!"/end shouting
Well, there's also the fact that opening weekend for Spiderman saw the movie playing on hundreds of screens thousands of times a day here... One 12 screen theatre had ONLY Spiderman, all day from 10:00am.
Actually, that's not a fact. This is a fact: Spiderman opened on around 1600 screens in North America, while Clones opened on around 1500 screens. That's not enough of a difference to explain away the revenues.
Here's another fact: anyone who makes assertions of fact without citing their source probably can't find their own arse with two hands and a flashlight.
I and, for one, intend to not let this die a quick and quiet death. In addition to writing Pets Warehouse directly, I have taken the advice of someone who replied to an earlier post I made, and I've written to the local paper and all the local TV stations to inform them of this travesty of justice, in the hopes that they will cover it and invite more crows to point and scream. I hope others do the same.
This is, of course, hilarious, but I reccommend more sever action. PetsWarehouse is endangering our internet. All loyal slashdotters should write them, complain, and tell them of your decision never to do business with them. This kind of legal wrangling and out-maneouvering by big business has gone on too long. *WE* can do something about it. Let's get to it.
I know pw@petswarehouse.com will get there... any body else have some exec's email?
>Doesn't really surprise me that they would have this >capability, although disabled. I mean they just >cripple the chip so that they can get more cash out >of the MP versions, smart move unless you wan't >another fiasco like the celeron/pentium II.
Ah, yes.. harkens me back to the days of the ole Intel SX/DX, present-but-disabled math copro... the good ole' days.

So? Use a web-based email service. So you can't get POP3/SMTP. So fucking what? Cry to your sysadmin who is operating an open relay.
>There is a difference between what you and I did >and what the kids in elementary school do now.
>You and I hacked video games, learned 6502/6510 on >our own, and learned how the computer worked >intimately.
I, too, did what you and he did on computers - hacking around, learning, challenging myself. But I didn't start until I was about 10. This, I feel, is a perfect age. I waited long enough to get really into computers to have learned to play three different instruments, as well as developing a voracious appetite for books and taking karate classes and joining a swim team and cub scouts/tiger cubs/webelos/boy scouts - and I even got in some good "play time", too. Had I gotten into computers much earlier than I did, I feel I wouldn't be nearly the well-rounded (IMNSHO) individual I am today. I am a computer geek, yes, but I am so much more than that. Had I started with computers at, say, age 4-8 or something, I think I would have been even more skilled than I am now, but I think I would have been a complete computer geek - knowing nothing about anything but mahcines, with hampered social skills and creative abilities, and a more "tunnelized" view of the world.

And when.

Difference between C# and ActiveX in this case is that in ActiveX, everything is "Unsafe" and you either take it or leave it. In Java, of course, everything is "safe". C# can go either way.
My god, people... another +5 post that belies a complete lack of understanding of the subject a thand. Di you even read the articles? They aren't talking about unsafe as in unsafe controls (ie, controls not verified with a certiifcate server or utilizing APIs that can be damaging to the client) - they are talking about doing unsafe things in terms of variable and object manipulation. Use a pointer incorrectly in a C windows app, and windows crashes. Hence, it's "unsafe". Not as in potentially virus-ridden or whatever you took it to mean. Get a clue. I shouldv'e know better than to expect insightful comments about Windows technologies from slashdork readers.

Or Start --> Run, CMD, enter.
/SARCASM
Hardly call that buried.
Right... because 'cmd' is so intuitive, and because it's always been 'command'.
Idiot.
Darth Vader is Luke's father... Spartacus gets crucified
Dude ! I can't believe you left out this one: the chick in "The Crying Game" was A MAN!
I know people are tired of hearing about this... but if the movie is going to be so huge, and so successful, and make such enormous bank for the studio and for Jackson, then please just put in Christopher Lee's seven minutes of Saruman footage.

Yes, sir! Everybody *loves* a jackass that corrects every single little mistake a body makes. Don't have many friends, do we?
I for one look forward to serving our new SCO overlords, and toiling in their silicone mines!

Because I'm a slashdotter, and grammer/syntax isn't my strong suit (unless it's related to C).
It's "a 9".
If anyone knows of a protected Sub-net (encrypted, anonymous use) please let me know to restore my faith.
Two words: Freenet.
Oh, wait...

Source for above fact: my infinite wisdom.
It's not even close to tax evasion. Ta evasion is illegal. Tax avoidance through compliance with the code and regulations is just being smart.
I thought it was "avoision"...
What is the likelihood of bacterial life on Mars infecting the earth if we ever get around to visiting Mars in person?
Uh-huh... like anybody who reads Slashdot could actually answer that question...
Don't forget, the chick in "The Crying Game" WAS REALLY A MAN!

one stumbling block is that government agencies (like the one i work for) shy away from products that have no old-school support structure.
Oh, like I can call someone at MicroSoft and get them to help me with my Windows problems...
