  3. Last-mile Distances on Copper Wire As Fast As Fiber? · · Score: 1

Yes, in some instances last-mile is more or less than a mile. But in my case it is about 12 kilometres to the exchange. So if they could change the specs to allow 1 measley Mbs over 12 km I would be pretty damn happy. And I would think that the distance rather than the speed increase would actually be of more value to telcos. As it would provide a larger revenue base. I don't hear that many people complaining about speed.

I would imagine it becomes a design issue for the battery cells themselves. Would they be brick sized and have built in disconnect circuitry? Such that if they detected massive deceleration/impact they would switch to a mode where they were less likely to discharge. If the batteries were all interconnected then a single battery that was physically damaged then the other batteries would disconnect from it to prevent beng damaged themselves. Sounds like a lot of thought would go into the cells so they were aware of their surounding cells and connect in their own optimum arrangement.

  5. Re:A bit risky on USB Batteries · · Score: 1

Interestingly enough the Razr phone has a charging issue from a computer. It is pretty nifty but never let the phone run right down. The phone needs enough power to identify itself via USB connector from the computer in order for the cmputer to then supply charging voltage. The wall plug supplies power automatically via mini usb. But when plugged into a laptop unless the phone can identify itself the laptop never recognises something is plugged in at all. Oh and of course you need to install the phone charging driver as well under Windows.

Now for the Quirk about the driver. If you have it plugged in and stop the computer at boot and go into the BIOS then the phone will charge just fine.

Your argument says the DVD version is the same as the VHS. Correct?

Well maybe it isn't. DVDs will often have more information - multi channel surround sound, interviews, and extras etc than a VHS of the same title. I can't imagine them being available to consumers legally at any point. 12. Re:Cultural Issue/Parental time on Math Skills Survey Shows U.S. Lags Behind · · Score: 1

This is mostly a cultural issue, not an education system issue. As evidenced by data wherein poor countries outperform the US despite our larger budgets.

Is it also possible in these 'poor' countries that less families are dual income? That the society is not driven to consume stuff. Or the child spends more time spent with parents? And this is what is actually having an effect greater than dollars spent on the education system?

  13. State Vs National Education Systems on Math Skills Survey Shows U.S. Lags Behind · · Score: 1

Also, in the US, education is mostly a state run thing. I wonder if would be more beneficial to rank the US states individually along side of countries that organize their education at the national level.

I am not sure a country with the population the size of the US would benefit from an additional layer of government over the states to manage the education system. Perhaps a national group to determine minimum skill level criteria for math and language skills would help. Perhaps allowing State or even more local systems to take control and enact changes to meet those levels would be more productive?

I do know that I treat other memmbers of my team as equals and defer to their experience on technical issues. I focus on planning and keeping morale high and tell them all this is just a job, personal lives and especially their families come first.
