Totally agree. Maybe this will change in the future. So it all comes back to the question of whether taking Software engineering professional is the answer. I think we could compare CS and EE, there are alot of people that know EE who aren't licensed and know it better than many EE's. They come up with lots of cool little tricks/gadgets. They don't design the next pentium though. So maybe a professional industry can co-exist with gargage hackers.......
You have never had a Fujitsu crash? Try driving them around in your car. I have had three go during transportation and 2 more just go for no reason. Everyone should buy a good brand , pay the extra 5% for it and sleep easy. Just my.02 Euro's....
And ATT Canada's Headquarters are in Halifax. Business is out to make money. Many companies are based in Bermuda too, but when you have a secretary, phone, and mail box in Bermuda and 1000 employees on Wall St. Where is the company really? I would say NY, others will disagree.
Exactly. Something has to be done, but another C++,slow as shit standards process, is not the answer. And polluting the language...arghhh. Keep it pure...do it for the code maintainers!
Well are they going to sue IRC too? Or ICQ? Or how about USENET, or FTP, or e-mail. Oh wait, we can't sue those things, so we'll sue napster instead. The only thing that napster does is allow any idiot to pirate music, compared to the "difficulties" of irc. The Napster client forcing people to share songs is what has made it so popular. If napster gets sued then someone else will just write an OS server and then that will be be it. IRC hasn't been shut down, neither will an OS napster.
I just switched to the new MS Explorer mouse (the one without mechanical parts). I'm not sure if it will help other people, but for some reason I don't get a sore right wrist as much or as often. I'm not claiming that it's Bill's new toy, but maybe the shape of it or the smoothness helps. I gurantee there will be some propaganda at microsoft.com/mouse that says its super ergonomic.
If anyone out there has some secret connection to buy 400km of fibre I'd love to hear it. No one talks about this for some reason. Its not price/installation/right-of-way/etc.... Its that you can't buy the stuff. It's like RAM except worse!!! If your telco doesn't have a contract dating back with Corning or someone a few years then there will not be any fibre for them to install in the coming years.....
What gives me the right to make something and give it away???? I don't think I have a right to do this, but its not against the law. Leeching the idea is not the same as leeching the work. To leech the work you would have to steal th source code. And yes ideas take work, but I am talking elbow greese. I'm taking it you have never used an ICQ client that wasn't made by Mirablis/AOL? I'm also taking it that you don't use UNIX/MAC. I'm also taking it that you've never heard of the Microsoft/AOL ICQ war. No difference in this case. Please correct me if I am wrong. ok thats enough flamebait........
Some general thoughts....... I don't see any reason why it can't be done. The server would just have to do searches of file lists people have and setup communication, thats about all. The chat, is not a necessity in my books, if you want to chat about music goto EFnet. So really thats it for features. I'm still working on an open source java client, but Ryan is a little further along last I checked and taking the smarter road in using GNOME. I am still worried about legal issues......
I always buy my beer and groceries with debit card . Do they track my number and thus link it back to my past purchases? I realize the bank has a record of everything I buy, but do the stores?
Has anyone studied this garbage to see if it is random or not? If it's not, then develope algorithms and tune up the radars. and yes it would be hard, but this is war:) or so were told.
80gbps? so whats that mean? 8 nortel networks OC-192 bays maxed out at every gigapop? The article said there was 11, 11 x 8 = 88. What do they cost $500k each? What I am getting at is I don't think this adds up. Don't you need a regen every little bit (300 miles or so)? Is that where these gigapops are? The article mentioned that it was all optical, so what do the use to regen the signal over all of Canada? I thought the only way to regen that signal over long distances was optical/elec/optical in an OC-192 bay? This just doesn't seem realistic to have 8 bays at every gigapop, maybe I am wrong...If so I am sure someone will tell me.
I've been working on a napster client for the last little bit. I've got the very basics going.. as in log in and do a search. The next step is the ftp protocol to transfer the files. Anyway my point is...Does anyone care? If so I'll release it. The reason is the current client is fine and all, but its not OS. And the protocol being quite simplistic there is no reason not to get a project going. Unfortunately my only limiting factor is time. so email me if your insterested dave@lb.gulliver.nb.caNOSPAM -NOSPAM
It's unfortunate when a "Democratic" superpower plays games. I don't want to see a 21st century Cuban missle crisis. And as an aside I wish they would mention the invasion of Cuba more when History talks about that crisis. "Gee we invade their country and then they take steps to protect themselves" Lets please learn from our mistakes..........
I'm running the same thing almost: 96 meg: (64 PC100 32 crap) So this prevents me from going over 92Mhz or so. I haven't had to touch the voltage settings etc. I run 2x 366 @ (5.5x and 92 Mhz). This gives me 505.981381 MHZ and bogomips : 504.63. Works great for RC5 stuff, but honestly besides that I haven't seen much improvement over my old PII-233. But hell........ Having a GHz computer just sounds cool when you tell someone.... And cheap. cheap cheap. Recommend to anyone. PS If you do get one download the bios update from http://www.bp6.com
Canada did it in the 70's. I still weigh 195 pounds and am 6 foot 2. But the speed limits 110 on the highway and a liter of gas is 65 cents. But I need a cup of sugar and then I have to set the oven to 425 F. So you see this is what the metric world is like for the average joe. Yes it didn't/is not happening overnight, but you have to start somewhere.
If we do observe tommorrow that objects accelerate towards the earth at 29 ft/s^2, then we have either redefined the scale for the english measurement system (who really knows what kind of scale it is anyway?) or the earth has lost mass (asteroid collision?). If neither one of these is the case, then it would seem that we have a much larger problem then right-wing religious people not believing in Evolution. In general, science would be debunked.
What are the SEC issues? If your an Executive on a NasDaq company you can certainly get in on an IPO, doesn't matter what country you are from. Is there different rules for "friends" of the company? I am looking at the Etrade application. All that stops someone from outside the US, is a SIN#, so how do I go about getting one of those?
Thank-You!!!!!!
This will speed up prgress for many of us. No ones perfect and I am sure I have overlooked things. The more knowledge the better.

2.3 is still extremely buggy for me with ATA66 and Abit BP6.
We still have a ways to go. But maybe things will get locked down fast.......
emu10k.o
I got the latest CVS and it didn't work. Jan 15th worked (lots of warnings).

Moderate me down...
They weren't lucky, they had business sense.
Geeks who have business sense get rich, the rest are destined to be happy peons.

I'm just wondering, how do you plug this into a PC?
Are there like OC-48 cards for PC's?
Or would they use gigabyte ethernet? ATM?

To bad it will just magnify my 14inch .42 dot pitch up to a 30 inch with 4.44 dot pitch. :)
