As for all of your accusations about this or that being "juvenile" - OS has been trying to penetrate to a larger audience for some time now - what seems juvenile to you is considered "user friendly" to others, and there's nothing wrong with that especially when you have the power to modify or disable these features. Additionally, a lot of people go into OS because they are enthusiastic, creative individuals striving to produce more than just a paycheck. Don't confuse creativity for immaturity.

Having a system in place capable of emulating fetal development in the adult, especially a system that would have to be designed to interact with adult tissue would open up a slew of potential places for growth to get out of control in response to injury or aberrant activation.

"Your best bet is to take the money and tow the line till the funding runs out then claim new findings counter to what the evil corporation wanted and then seek government funding to sort it out."

Wow, that sounds like one of the worst things you could do. Then you sacrifice reputation, research quality, and potentially set-back your entire field with ambiguous or conflicting data.

Why not take the money, do research with as little bias as possible, and report the results no matter which way they sway? Be it the government or a corporation, everyone has an agenda, and there always exists opportunities for personal gain by slanting the results of research. But there are a lot of researchers out there the just really want to figure out what the truth is, and if a corporation will fund them to do this - why not? They can always apply for gov. funds if their results piss off the company that originally funded them.

While it's great that this research was carried out and has provided some reasoning behind caloric restriction, it's not a very shocking finding at all. The aging process is just a series of chemical reactions, some that we understand, some that we do not. Most organic reactions are slowed down significantly by relatively small decreases in ambient energy (lowering temp). Hence aging process should be expected to slow down as well.
