The only way you could implement a system like this is to create an entirely new protocol, server software and client software.
I disagree, this could be done with No Change to any protocol, client, or server: the only thing that needs created is a torrent creator located on a machine that had a full version of every "simular" torrent to be shared. the torrents would all be linked read only to the same DVD image (for exampl), only part of that DVD image would be labeled as "downloaded" and you would put the client into upload only mode on this host machine. The downloaders would have no idea this same data was shared under many different torrents.
For example, My company distributes our manuals as DVD's, different DVD for every machine Type. These go to 100's of locations. We put the same engine in 50 different machines. Also we do updated DVD's, that may just add a few pages of options (for example.)
If we distributed DVD images by bittorent, with a server at every one of our distributor. It would be as simple as patching the existing torrent image at the distributor.
IE Distibutor X may only have the DVD only for model ZZ hosted on their server. Instead of having a single torrent served from their chunk of data, Our main office that has all of the DVD's we ever produced, could just send them a list of torrent files, that tells that 1 server, what chunks of their file are appliciple on all of our DVD's. Now they may be able to host a 100 different torrents, all saying I got 10% of model ZX I got 5% of model ZF...
if it was from TV whether it was started at the same time??
More like creating a diff program for binary files, not just text. thats the part their sharing. IE if you find identical segments in similar files, you can grab the identical segments from either torrent. They even have the example, a trailer. A better example would be a movie with 3 version, IE a extended version, a theatricle version, and a TV version. If you cut the theater version and TV version from the extended version (after encoding, etc) you could download the extended version after downloading the theater version in 1/8th the time, since you really just need a difference file.
have had no issues with DRM because I don't buy DRM'd media.
I have only bought 3 un-cracked DRM'd media, I have plenty of DVD's but their cracked, so no worries they load up on my media player with just a couple clicks, and a hour later it'll be loaded on my player whenever it is next turned on.
odds are that what you meant as well, you purchase no DRM'd content that is still effective.
FYI, of those 3 I bought, 1 I never got anything to work (e-book), the other 2 I got video only, no sound (HD content on DVD).
I don't know the details either, but it does sound like he was doing a piece on a organization, and they may have invited him to the scene under the assumption that he is a journalist covering the group. regardless it didn't sound like he was being asked to testify on what he saw that day, they had witness to that. Sounds more like they wanted his background on the people involved.
they're to stop you from flying through your widshield and causing more damage
I think it is more of a liabilty waiver, IE if I lose control of my car and am at fault for a accident that would have involved no injuries, but your face now required 70 hours of surgery because you wouldn't wear your belt. You can now say they are at say 30% fault for not being safe in their car.
I wish they would do the similar for high dollar cars, IE if you drive a car with a million dollar emerald on your rear bumper I touch them at 2 MPH (my fault again) their should be a rule setting a max value for a bumper I have to buy. (I don't want to submit a insurance claim... for a few hundred dollars, but now your high dollar car makes it such.)
Therefore in all the calulations that use the 0.56", you can only have a max of two sig figs in the result.
s/result/final output. if you drop significant digit in everyoutput from subroutines, etc then 4 * 1200 might be 4000 just as easy as 5000, and be wrong BTW.
what's to legally stop you from changing the format and just saving it in MPEG4
DMCA appears this manufacture has a legit license for the css key, and uses to decrypt from the hard drive. Granted the functionality would be identical if they ripped (except the device could then be cheaper per stored MB.)
It might be a couple more years till someone gets around to doing it
if your unfamiliar with mythTV it's default configuration (if their is such a thing) is to rip a dvd to the hard disk when inserted, not sure if it's mpeg4 (mine was until I started rebuilding it and haven't finished)
if this article wasn't posted, 90% of the people complaining here would have never even noticed.
well, I can say with all the talk of slowness in vista, that was my first check on my new Vista laptop, copied over a divx movie, and tried play. copying was slow enough, and play blocky enough on a core 2 cpu that I installed XP, it was enough faster I have no intention of touching vista anywhere for another year. I was willing to give another try, had their been a download link. but contacting MS with the warning, we may forgive the costs is not on my priortys.
No idea if it is the Toshiba value added crap, or Vista itself, but I got 2 different laptops vista pre-installed, that now work great with XP, un-usuable as Vista was shipped (even after removing obvious junk) Stuff like Internet explorer crashing if not connected to a network, microsoft mail crashing claiming no hard disk space (both laptops, 2 different models, 1 Vista Home, other Vista Premium) with 150Gb shown free...
Power = (V^2)/R so correct incandescent bulb, gets hot, resistance goes up, less power consumed (at constant voltage).
is that as the chip gets hotter, it will resist more, causing a need for higher output
ok, you got lucky;) since semiconductors act the opposite of purly resisitive your correct. hotter they get the more they conduct (lower resistance), and the hotter they get... until chip protection kicks in and lower the clock rate, or whatever.
The mistake that is makes is to assume that all energy usage is the same when of course it isn't.
it's always a interesting question, With a completely interconnected energy grid, is the energy I use in Arizona more friendly than the energy used in PA for example. IE I live closest to one of the largest Solar PV Generation in the world (grid connected), so can I claim my energy came from their, when in fact had I not used that energy it would have displaced energy used in NM, that displaced CO energy... all the way back to Dover Delaware where they had to fire-up a CNG generator because their instantaneous use exceeded the nuclear plant capacity. Personally I think had that Prius not been built, less coal would have been burned, since they should shutdown the highest impact plants, if we would start conserving more. So even if 95% of electricity were from renewable sources, until that number reaches 100% all wasted electricity = worst possible source of energy burned to produce electricity.
everyone here is switching from back and forth from gas to diesiel I assume because they don't understand the article (ok it is so dumbed down to be meaningless.) or don't understand the difference. Gas is measured in octane, diesiel in C-Tane (sp?). in a gas engine, because of charge density (% oxygen) of the incoming air, can run much lower compression ratio with boost, since their is more energy density. In a diesiel the advantage is not only charge density (not as important, because they tend to rain lean anyway) but the compression ratio, direct injection lets you control the combustion point, the higher the compression, the longer you can inject diesiel the more power per stroke.
so in a normal diesiel you can increase you compression ratio with boost. in a normal gas, you can decrease your compression ratio with boost, and still get the same/more power. The article is about doing both, IE use high octane fuel (= low cTane, generaly makes lowsy diesiel fuel) but with direct injection prevent pre-ignition and with high compression get a longer/higher burn rate. so use the diesiel burn rate, with the high energy density of gas.
The turbo does increase efficiency because the engine is always dumping a lot of heat into the exhaust
no, the whole free energy thing is a strech to say the least. The extra heat from the exhaust is a negative, since it decreases the charge density (amount of oxygen) taken into the combustion chamber. the "free energy" is the unspent exhaust expansion energy (ok heat whatever) but that increases the backpressure that causes less pressure differential (IE power) output from the engine.
That is why a inter-cooler is soo important in a turbo, the heat has to be removed before use, or the air is too hot, the oxygen density would suck, now you cool the hot air, and you can get more O2 in for combustion. Get more 02 into a gas engine, more to burn, more gas, more power. get more Air into a diesiel, higher combustion, better/longer burn more diesiel burned. Run higher Compression and higher boost with gas would normally cause pre combustion if the gas is present when compressed (at low octane=higher ctane), but its not since it is (now proposed to be) direct injected during compression.
So if you are doing something that you don't want people to know you are doing, my question is, what the hell is wrong with you?
Carlos mencia said it better, if your going to the store to buy dog food, vaseline, and condoms, then you better pay cash. Otherwise why care who tracks your credit card purchases.
Just a credit card number is mostly useless, or just a password, or just a email address. Watch my surfing enough, I'll drop enough information to scam me good. If you can't tie my surfing to one person/business it's not so valuable. Tie all the web info from a company together you'll learn what paths their thinking of following, and you can take some of the profit for yourself for the idea.
Also sometimes you realize your actions may be legit, but may draw undo attention. Maybe you want to buy your wife flowers and choclates for a suprise, but she may assume your having a affair. Or maybe your writing a fiction story about someone who murders their wife, but it may never get finished. Or maybe your blowing the whistle on someone really powerfull...
Thier are lots of obvious times to not be tracked that are legit, writers/reporters are the most obvious, now everyone with internet access becomed a published writer in minutes.
Were not disputing Daylight Savings, were disputing earlier daylight savings. I am from Arizona (No DST here) Our clocks don't change, I work for one of the many companys that always shifted our working hours with the rest of the country, kept our hours in synch with the home office. Problem now is that our working hours start at 7am during the winter, and we need light to work efficiently, that always worked 7am winter, 6am summer switched at DST. The new DST doesn't work, too dark at 6am, so were still switching our working hours with the old DST.
So the old DST worked better, more savings would have been to pass a law that all 9 to 5 single shift employers starting should now work 8 to 4.
And imagine all the smoke detectors, now their batteries must last months longer!!
will not be available to my son because a bunch of illegal immigrants took all of those jobs long ago.
I am not disagreing with you, but you do realize you saying pretty much the exact same thing as you think Bill Gates did. IE that he was a priviliged kid, and that him and his family are better than those below him, and his status needs legal protection. I read your statment to say the same thing. That you and your family were born in this country, and theirfore you and your family deserve preference over anyone who didn't. It is very easy to extend that one step further and say that non-americans are not as Human as americans ( I know that wasn't even close to what you meant. ) I realize you said "Illegal", but since this story is about allowing immigration in general, I have to believe you don't care about the "Illegal" portion, just in the portion that you job was more important than jobs for those not born into your class, and theirfore you need protection.
Personally I believe a strong immigration policy is very important, not because I think I need protection, or even my children's (ok I currently have none) jobs need protection. But because the evil thing is the coruption in the Mexican government, and we need something to encourage the citizens to clean house. If you make it too easy to find a new home, they will have no incentive to clean up their old house. Lets face it a strong Mexican production is more of a threat to our (relatively) high income farming/manufacturing/mining jobs in the US, than the workers themselves coming to the US. Recent events make it clear for me anyway, that leaving incentive to clean their own house should be much more efficient than going in every few years and cleaning their house for them, and shaking a finger on your way out saying we worked real hard, this was hard work, so keep the place up to our standards when we leave.
If I were dell rep: Are you using a surge protector: no: thats the problem, get a new surge protector check ground at the monitor. yes: thats the problem bad ground, get a new surge protector check ground at the monitor.
seriously though I had a printer fry my computer, ground wire didn't make good connection to the surge suppressor, had a cheap surge suppressior without a wiring fault light, it actually induced the voltage on the ground leg within it's wiring. UPS on the computer was fine, and tried to provide ground to the printer, through the lpt port.
If your monitor is connected, and it is doing this, could easily be the other device powering up through the video connector shield, anyway it is more than a shock hazzard, it is going to kill his video card (regardless the source) soon.
most digital photos do have all the needed info their, the f-stop, the camera make/model/... so if you have the lense dimensions, and she is in focus, it should be possible to calculate all dimensions sans square.
Now, calculating how stretched the elastic is holding everything back is going to be much more difficult.
you only need to install one cable instead of two.
I wonder why no laptop vendors are selling a single cable laptop. IE either have a Ethernet over Powerline in the Power supply, or at least allow you to use the POE energy that is available to extend battery-life when wired. since I found synergy I would plug in a power cable, and ethernet (wifi is good, but I transfer big files on occasion and I will see long ping times causing a jumpy mouse.) Since I only use my laptop 20% of the time, the POE would have it charged over night, and it already last 1/2 a work day if unplugged, just a trickle from POE would keep me going all day.
It legally can not affect recommendations or references
Why can't it affect references?
actually it depens on what "references" means. I have been told it is a privacy violation for any company represenitive to give any information other than validate basic employed dates... to a outside person. So if they are contacted " X-employee John Does says he was employed from date a to date b and made $x/hour. the HR rep could say yes/no if they had documentation backing that up (or say we say they have no documentation on that person.) They could only verify, but not elaborate without violating the persons right to privacy.
Now any person John Doe gave as a personal reference is not acting as a representitive of the company, and is now acting on John Does behalf, and is now free to talk about how/why he left.
Now keep in mind this is only a outside company, you can bet if you work for a mega coperation, and try to get on at a different site of said mega corp your screwed.
In the other example, the "experts" are building SFUD (smiley faces, uncertainty, and doubt).
wait a second. if exxon just wanted a paper that said what they wanted it to say they would write it, and the pay the scientists to support it.
I think this would be the same as SCO bringing a suit to claim that the GPL is invalid. They have said it, but they aren't willing to put their money where their mouth is, becuase the GPL will be much stronger after every challenge it wins.
Same with this paper, what better way to get conclusive results, put out a paper, then put a million dollar bounty to disporve any/all of it. After the challenge if the paper still stands then you know you got something obviously strong. Since this is a somewhat public challenge the statements of this paper will either be corrected, or stand all the stronger, thanks to the money exxon put behind the challenge.
Yeah, and he DID mention Windows as the "low hanging fruit", did he not?
You also fail to mention that at least 3/4 of Windows PC's online are also not part of the low hanging fruit either (ie firewalls, fully patched, educated users, not attached to the internet.) It (currently) appears Mac's are indeed equaly vulnerable to mostly similar issues, IE users running programs they shouldn't, downloading questionable applications, known vulnerabilites not being patched (by users, and by venders)...
But finding those similar 25% of the Mac users which are only 5% of the web browsing community is obviously going to pay less.
that said I don't find myself defending microsoft often, but apple is not in a different league alltogether in support.
"This is the sellers way of saying they don't want to sell it for less."
Last I checked, that's what the reserve price is for.
actually the minimum bid is a better way. not a ebay expert, but the reserve seams broken (or I missed some setting.) I bid $300 for a item last week, the next lower bidder pushed my bid to something like $220, it didn't hit their reserve.
I couldn't find a way to push my bid to the $300 to see if it would exceed their reserve, except to setup a second acount, and thus push my own bid up (I didn't).
Well, it's when costs came down that it took off, really it was fairly recent that anybody was ripping DVD's.
personally I think it was cracked when it became popular. It wasn't very long into the cycle at all before bootleged DVD's were available (that would have more to do with affordable) actual ripping of disks is what I assume your refering to. That didn't have anything to do with any body I know buying their first DVD player (very un-scientific I know.)
pretty sure insider trading is not the law to worry about breaking in this situation, their is certainly some other laws to worry about.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insider_trading you wouldn't be guilty of insider trading unless there was some closer connection between you, the company, or the company officers.
insider trading reqires at least a indirect benefit to a high level person within the company.

North has called for the stoning of gays and nonbelievers (rocks are cheap and plentiful, he has observed).
Ok this is just the ramblings of people like the former Dean of Pat Robertson's Regent University law school. But it's not like powerfull Christians have done public stoning in the US before, well ok just not in the last 300 years.
