  4. Re:the best news is.... on Ultimate Stem Cell Discovered · · Score: 1
... this would be so huge for curing diseases...
Something I wonder about is if this could be used to cure EVERY disease. I mean, if this can only cure "almost" any disease, which are the ones that are still incurable? I imagine that there are inevitably going to be some things that can't be cured by harvesting (cloning) a new organ, or by replacing cancerous cells with healthy cells...what diseases are these? (Brain damage caused by stroke?)
A more elaborate plan for severe disorders such as AIDS or advanced forms of cancer is to reprogram these "base" stem cells to destroy and rebuild each cell in the body, replacing each old cell with a new cell that has transformed to take the place of the old cell. However, this brings up the issue of what happens when you replace brain cells? Is the information retained? The cells can't be identical to others if they're cancerous...would there be a way to code cells to brute-force strip cancerous instructions? Saying this makes humans...and all creatures...sound amazingly similar to computers...is that all we are? A species of computers reprogramming ourselves? That's a scary thought.

I've seen THREE separate reports on EMS' (I'm sure a bunch of you geeks bought some, don't try to deny it) and they've all said the same thing. What is it with journalistic redundancy? Is there NOT enough going on in the world? If there wasn't, why are there several dedicated cable news channels (including, but not limited to, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, FOXNN...)? Do it once, get it over with, stop repeating yourselves. I don't CARE that much. But then, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Yeah, yeah, off-topic, mod me down, whatever. I don't get modded up enough for it to count anyway, what with my insignificant comments.

I still laugh when someone asks if I have an IBM...ah, ignorance. The question is, though, WHY aren't PCs still known as that? I'm not talking about political correctness and sommat, I'm talking about how IBM went from being the Top Dog to being near the bottom-of-the-barrel. I mean, I LOVE that they're hardcore Linux now, but it doesn't mean much if they don't start making really great, innovative systems again.

  25. The Browser Holy Wars and W3C compatibility on Uber-patch for Internet Explorer · · Score: 1

I find it amusing how much /.ers debate and contradict themselves. Whenever the W3C makes a bad move (as they did in their privacy DTD a while back) everyone goes and says how BAD and EVIL the W3C is, but then whenever they talk about how much BETTER browser X is than browser Y, they talk about how COMPATIBLE it is with the very same people's DTDs.

The other thing I find amusing is the fact that /. (and SlashCode) uses a LOT of depreciated code (and the site isn't HTML 3.2 OR HTML 4 compliant!).
