  1. Re:As suggested by Mark Twain on The Evolution of Language · · Score: 1

Thanks for pointing this out, and for bringing up the verb "to be." This is, by default, the oldest verb in any language (except perhaps Russian, which they tell me doesn't have it), and therefore the most irregular.
Indeed. The lack of a verb "to be" is called zero copula. Plenty of languages like that.

Unfortunately, Verbix is down at the moment. Otherwise I might be able to find examples of regular 'to be' for you. I imagine pidgins and/or creoles might be good candidate languages.

Incidentally, I believe the article is full of shit. Apparently they have not had even a single linguist check their results, and they are based solely on English. One data point (language) does not prove anything!

Anyway, I believe that DRM-free iTunes tracks can be converted to MP3 by simply right-clicking them and selecting "convert to MP3" in iTunes.
Not only that, but they play flawlessly in Xine, without conversion. I have heard about MP3 players that play (unprotected) AAC files too.

Actually, there are a few second declension neuters. Virus is one of them, but the exact declension is uncertain, because virus was a mass noun in Latin. Incidentally, the plural form postulated on that page (vira) is identical to the one used in Danish, my native language. As far as I know, there has been no uncertainty at all as to the Danish form.

All Britain need do is pass a law that obliges DRM peddlers to make provision for the fact that copyright will expire one day {if there isn't such a law already}.
Unfortunately, this points to a general problem: Lawyers are wary of stating in a law that someone has to obey the law, which is essentially what you're saying. This point is seen as self-evident, and therefore best not expressed in a law. Besides, what would the penalties be for a violation? Withdrawal of the copyright in question?

I think that such an admission would open people's eyes to the fact that Windows is below average security-wise, and make more people migrate to other OSes (none mentioned, none forgotten).
