Major issues with Edge. #1 Forced to use Bing no way to completely turn it off. #2 50 clicks {sarcasm} to download something. Stop forcing me to use local drive "Downloads" I sort my downloads to go to different network shares!!! #3 Give us a way to TURN OFF download notifications. I don't need to know my 8GB download has finished! or that download number 15 is done. #4 Cannot set new tabs to open my homepage or a specific page. #5 Allow me to set page zoom per window not for the whole tabbed session. #6 Allow me to completely disconnect cortana from Edge.

Plus they have gone overboard. 10 minutes of program, 8 minutes of commercials and 10 minutes of program 8 minutes of commercials and 10 minutes of programming 8 minutes of commercials and 6 minutes of show, then you get the end of your show with the beginning of the next show in two boxes while you have ads all around the boxes. If that isn't bad enough you get 1/3 bottom screen ads while you are watching your program and miss important parts of the show or if there are subtitles you cannot see them. This is why services like NetFlix have taken off.

WTF, So the cable companies are too stupid to understand that we DO NOT want to pay so much for TV with a 1000 commercials! The commercials have gotten out of control, and on top of that now they play the beginning of the TV show with the end of the last show together in boxes, just so they can show more commercials. On top of that you get these nearly 1/4 screen bottom banners with even more commercials and if the show you are watch has subtitles you are screwed! NetFlix and others have found that a fair price to have content on demand is very popular without commercials, but the cable companies want to price themselves out of business. What kind of stupid company thinks "Hey if we raise the prices we will get more subscribers!" " We will just keep raising the rates and ram TV down their throats." All they are doing is forcing hold outs to be cord-cutters! Cable companies need to be very careful in their safe markets where they are the only game in town for Internet, 5G is coming and these new companies that are running their own fiber are now going to take away the $150 a month for internet ONLY customers. I had a door hanger the other day saying 1GB fiber to your door 4K streaming ready: $500 install $75 a month no data caps. Hummmm that is sounding very good!

I worked for CenturyLink & AT&T years back and I still have many engineer friends that work there. They "CenturyLink" are a monopoly. I have worked in this industry for 50 years and I know exactly how it is setup. While it is true that AT&T has its own Tier 1 Fiber the break up years ago caused them to lose a lot. You will find them on their own infrastructure in and around big cities, but once you are in the southwest that is no linger true. Please note a traceroute is NOT an exact way to see if traffic is routed the way you think. Core equipment is hidden from traceroutes, hand offs are hidden, firewalls are hidden, so you don't know exactly where the traffic really goes.

  10. Re:CenturyLink Monopoly on Users Report of Nationwide CenturyLink Internet Outage (ktvb.com) · · Score: 1

Yes, many people do not know that many companies use CenturyLink's Fiber for their connections. This is bad for everyone because there is no real option for Internet. If you use AT&T or Comcast etc. in reality they are on CenturyLink so you are using CenturyLink. This monopoly has to stop. It would be nice to have 2 or 3 REAL alternative connections. Other ISP companies with their own network without having to rely on another. I was on the phone with all of them today asking what was wrong. Everyone of them said it is a CenturyLink issue and we are waiting on them. All our cellphones were down, and all networks were down, everything down for 9 hours today.

I hope that this outage cost Google, Facebook and every other billion dollar company 10 billion in lost revenue. Now they can now all go to the government and force a competitive ISP nationwide. This way we will have a choice. Since everything is CenturyLink we lost, Comcast, CableOne, Verizon, AT&T and CellularOne services. WHY??? because they all have to use CenturyLink for their connections. All these companies have no access to the Internet but to use CenturyLink. This monopoly needs to be fixed.

ISPs sell access to the internet, what someone does with it is NONE OF THEIR CONCERNS! The courts and government monkeying in their business is completely wrong. 15. There is a reason they call it Whole Paycheck! Their prices are outrageous this is WHY many don't shop there. Amazon promised to drop the prices by 20% but only did so for a few weeks and then they jumped right back. Whole Paycheck needs to permanently lower their prices as promised!

  16. Raising the Speed Is Useless on Ajit Pai Wants To Raise Rural Broadband Speeds From 10Mbps To 25Mbps (arstechnica.com) · · Score: 1

Raising the speed in rural areas is useless. Every time I call Comcast, CenturyLink or Verizon they say it will cost them 5 million dollars to put the infrastructure the area. Then they say even if every customer in the area subscribed for their most expensive service it would still take 200 years to break even. All of them say it is NOT cost effective to put infrastructure in rural areas. So raising the speed from 10Mb to 25Mb will not help in any way. Forcing these giant ISPs to install the infrastructure would at least provide "a" connection to the internet when there is none now.

One school deployed 10000 Chrome-books and the IT department work load went up 297%. There was no way to keep up with all the problems. The Chrome-books would have to be re-loaded over and over and over to fix issues. Google tried to help but they were faced with the same issues. These are great if you do nothing but browse the web. They are not designed for business or any real work. The school finally had to dumb the Chrome-books and go back to Windows based tablets. The cost to buy them is high but they work very well for extend periods of time, work will all the applications and don't have to be re-loaded. When the schools CFO did the numbers the Windows Tablets cost the school 147% less over all. Less in time to manage, less problems, and a lot less unhappy school staff and students.
