phone numbers cannot be compared with IP's and email addresses.

first, phone numbers were developed before there was competition in the phone market. (not that there really is any now either) but they were designed for land based phones with regional aread codes and prefixes. many houses still have the same number they got when they origanlly GOT a phone. my dad lives in the same house as his parents and they have the same number. my grandparents still refer to the number as Sylvan5-xxxx or whatever it was.

now that concept of geographically stationary phones combined with numerous different providers has changed the way phones work.

email is a pain. i hate having to change addresses. but, for a couple of dollars a month you can purchase a domain and host it. get a few people (a family) purchase your name and you can have john@doe.com for as long as you want to pay to host it.

ip's have a dns registry. thus there can only be 1 slashdot.org or google.com. however, in a phonebook there can be 30 different jeffery wong's. your phonebook DNS analogy is flawed.

your whol argument is flawed. do you work for sprint or something?

the crux of the matter is not the copyright. it's the profit.

there are very few, likely none, p2p users who profit from trading.

bill gates taking your code and dumping it into win2k3 is that he will turn around and sell it.

the RIAA claims that a downloaded song is a "lost sale". which is patently untrue. i am willing to download the latest to 40 hit to listen with my friends for a few hours. but i'm NOT going to drop $6 on a single or $15 on 7 other crappy songs. i'd rather sit home and not listen to anything then.

does piracy hurt sales? yes. since i got a cd-burner i have only bought a handful of cd's (MAYBE 10).

but this has only been a reponse to the price fixing that they've been engaged in for years. services like iTunes may finally help. but prices still need to drop.

perhaps shocked is too strong of a term. but you seem to agree that he certainly does not expect it, at least yet. in that same scene, when neo bleeds, the mirovingian states "he's still only human". i wonder if that is meant to mean that he will cease to be human (or entirely human) at some point, which may be why the sentinels do not kill neo at the end (ala smith).

but, again, neo is the only "being" human or otherwise that we have been shown that CAN stop bullets.

  10. Re:Perhaps the censor can explain... on Matrix Gets Egyptian Ban For Explicit Religion · · Score: 0

what if neo didn't become 'the one' until he chose to re-enter the matrix to save neo.

he first meets the oracle she says that he's not the one. but that he'll have to choose between saving morpheus and and dying in the process, or not saving morpheus. he thus CHOOSES, to save neo and then DOES die. only to be revived by trinity, who is told she will only love 'the one'.

so it could be argued that he was not 'the one' until he re-enterd the matrix or until he dies/gets revived.

i think that this is key for showing just how this entire system is a sytem of control. i do not think that neo is really all that special. when he first meets the oracle, he meets other children who have some rather unique abilities, similar to neo's. is it possible that there are many humans who have these abilities to alter the matrix. in the animatrix we are introduced to several "copper-tops" who have unique abilities within the matrix (kid story/world record). the difference between neo and the others is that the matrix has placed him/them into this situation.

they present facts to them in such a way that they can predict responses, or so they think.

they tell morpheus that he will find the one. so he begins to look anywhere and everywhere for him. we are never told "how" he will find the one (is it jsut cause you can re-arrage "neo" to spell "one"?). trinity is told that she will love the one, and thus because morpheus believes neo is the one, she believes she loves neo. thus neo becomes the one and fulfills the "prophecy" which has been deviously calculated to merely "control" the resistance. however, something is different, it is somewhat implied that his love for trinity is what is unique. i, howver, think that it is the smith connection which really makes him different/more powerful. for example when he faces the french huy and stops the bullets, the french dude is shocked, as if that is a 'new' ability.

exactly how is an *alpha* copy of doom3 going to hurt it's sales? If anything it is only hyping it more. It will invariably have a cd-key requirement for online play, which is all anyone will really want. and for which you WILL have to shell out $50 (which most of us will). and remember, when Q3A came out they released a free MP beta months before the release.

don't forget, the sales of the actual doom3 game are just gravy. they will make the real cash from licensing the engine to dozens of other companies.

I think that ID leaked this on purpose so as to keep doom3 in the minds of fps gamers while they frag away to UT2003 which decidedly beat them to the market.

your rant is uncalled for and just trolling. anyone who has the time, patience, ability and desire to download a buggy pre-release alpha is nothing more than a super ID fanboy who just can't wait to shell out $200 to buy the game, the collectors edition and the later released game of the year edition.
