i used to have the star-chart poster on my wall and a giant note-book so that i could record coordinates of cool places.
the space combat was fun. the exploration was fun. starcon2 was probably THE game that got me hooked on pc games. wolf3d and doom were fun, but they could never really hold my attention long enough.
starcon2 and civ1 are probably the two greatest games of all time, imho.
the original release of deus ex did play horrible on many machines. it came out just as the 3dfx cards (3000 was what i had at the time) were really starting to lose ground to nvidia. so many people had nvidia which didnt support glide.
deus ex on glide was a pleasure right out of the box. this is because it was built on unreal (or was it UT?).
although, deus ex after several patches did start to play well with non-glide cards. but it took some time. a few montsh iirc.
the song, a populist folk song is performed by elitist presidential candidates hoping to appear populist themselves. perhaps, the artist juxtaposed bush and kerry, whom combined--based on polling data--anger almost 100% of the population, against this progressivley patriotic populist folk song.
I've had this project going for a while. I started with an old p3-600 and 256mb of ram. and 200gb of hd space. and was just for dvd's and downloaded media.
since then i've upgraded to this: winxp pro (not media center) 1.6ghz p4 1gb pc2700 2x80gb hd in raid 0 + 40gb geforce 2 w/ tv tuner and s-video out winTV PVR 250 sblaster live hooked up to home theater w/surround bluetooth keyboard dvd-r drive
it's set up with a dual display, one a 17" monitor by the couch, for chatting, surfing. and the video signal goes to the 27" tv across the room.
i can *tivo* shows with the wintv card. and wathch another channel with the geforce tuner. all while i download tv/movies/music from my p2p of choice. and i can stream almost all media across the network.
AND i can log in from work (or my favorite wifi hotsopt--the local bar--with my pda) with remote desktop to schedule a record or download something. so that it'll be ready for when i return home.
is it the cheapest solution? no. but it's FAR more versatile than anything at best buy. not that much more expensive. especially since i built it piecemeal overtime, from largely scavenged parts, supports ALL video formats, with a little tweaking an has nearly unlimited upgradability. also it wows all of the women who come over. it's the complete series of ds9 that makes them all wet.
it's not the easiest solution. it's caused alot of headaches. but it's been fun, and it's doing great these days.
there is almost always a little ambient moisture in the air. wouldn't condensation form on the heatsink and thus threaten the stability of the whole system.
it's awfully cool--pun intended--but are below freezing cooling systems necessary.
these "entitlement" programs you refer to are what other people call healthcare, education and food on the table. yet i do not see you complaining about a $200 billion war and occupation which was instigated by several well placed lies and half truths.
my apartment always looks as if a P4 and and Athlon have just fought a very *bloody* fight to the death.
my living room has 4 computer cases (2 completely empty), 3 dead power supplies, an assortment of old vid cards, nics, and sound cards strewn about the floor.
surprisingly i have managed to get a *few* women back to my place( i know it's a shock to me too). One almost got a concussion when she laid back on the couch only to smack her head on a dead PSU under the pillow.
a physicist, chemist and economist wash ashore a deserted island. stranded, with little hope of rescue they begin to gather resources.
they find that there are several crates of canned food washed ashore, from the same boat they fled.
without a can-opener they begin to devise a strategy.
The chemist says "well, i can formulate a substance that will ignite and cause a fire"
the physicist then jumps in "YES! and then we can put the cans in the fire and wait until they explode. i can calulate the time they will pop and their trajecytory. then we can just catch the food"
the two then turn to economist, perplexed, and as "and, what are YOU going to do?"
the economist replies "well, assume we have a can-opener"
yet I doubt that he is doing his job any differently from any other Attorney General. In fact, I doubt that the AG has much impact on Justice - he's just a short-term figurehead who represents career civil servants to the public.
I must say you are dead wrong here. As the chief administrator of the DOJ he sets the agenda. Yes, career civil servants go about their jobs largely as usual. But you're also forgetting the sweeping reforms that Ashcroft has instigated in the DOJ. His policies, combined with the PATRIOT ACT have handed Justice and the FBI broad sweeping powers that they haven't had since the days of Hoover. Powers that were deliberately revoked WITH CAUSE.
There are often comments flying around such as "This is just business as usual, as all politicians Democrat or Republican" to defend the Bush Administration. Yes, cronyism, partisanship and an attempt to further your own suporters' interests is not new.
WHAT IS NEW are the radical measures that the administration has taken in economic and tax policy, foreign policy and the sweeping changes in the Justice dpeartment. The Bush administration is seemingly inent on destroying almost 60 years of advances made on all three of these fronts.
These "reforms" were instigated WITHOUT a mandate from the people. Adolf Hitler and the NAZI party was at least wildly popular in early 30's Germany!
ever since i read on slashdot some time ago that china was planning a moonbase i've been 'joking' with my friends that we're going to war with china over the moon, and it'd be dubbed the "moon wars".
seems to me like it'd prolly be fought with remote controlled un-manned vehicles. total anime stuff. as much as wars suck and such, i'm pretty stoked for the impending moon-wars.
maybe they'll put out a special collector's edition box set. or perhaps the un-manned vehicles will unite and throw off their human oppressors. nevertheless it'll make the end of the world and entertaining show, as it should be.
so. do i need a doom3 computer rig to get this to run?

it's an excellent (parody||satire).
It's pretty easy to survive the high levels of radiation on a burbank sound stage.
actually, it should be:

10. The Search for little picard
you convince everyone that little timmy's fallen into the well.

they also announced pledges to release more new calculators next year, including the greatly anticpated Marvel v. Texas Instruments.
the odds of those 18-24 knowing, caring or voting are even slimmer. so what difference does it make.
since we purported to be a "democracy", unfortunately. an election is just a poll with a really bad sample.

granted, haven't gotten my hands on doom3 yet.
a contract implies a responsibility on both parts.
i agree to pay my bill use the system according to AUP and TOS.
i expect the isp to provide CLEAR LANGUAGE as to what this policy may be, in terms of usage caps etc.
i have found most companies are far too happy to advertise one thing and sell another. this is, of course, not limited to isps
goes beyond unlimited?
shouldn't this be modded funny?

"hell no!"

ceteris parabis joke.
wouldnt this stuff be cooler if it were wireless;y capable. probably BT since it's low power. but 802.11 could be nifty too.
