In most cases the value to the thief is not in the object itself but in its resale value. If they know that the laptops will be bricked before they can shift them, it might deter some people from swiping them.
The Walmart video download site (http://mediadownloads.walmart.com/) appears to be Slashdotted already, so I can't check to see if it's just a UA check or something that actually won't work outside of IE (Like ActiveX controls).
Only problem is that a lot of "Firefox" extension developers don't bother to add Seamonkey install scripts, so a lot of them won't install, even though they work perfectly.
Yes. There's a fairly comprehensive list of components for you to choose from on install.

Christ man, how lazy do you have to be that after downloading your movies for free you can't be bothered to un-rar them? Perhaps you'd like VLC to support torrents and write up a summary of each video for you - cut out the human interaction all together.
Remind me to sue my neighbours for their house being #41. People are always knocking on my door (#41a) instead, wasting my time and causing a loss of earnings.
After all, it's clearly their fault that people are idiots.
I'd say 50% of the drivers I install under XP warn me that they're unsigned. The ones from larger companies like nVidia are usually later updated to include said signing, but the others remain unsigned indefinitely - especially for older or more obscure hardware.
You can probably say goodbye to projects like the Omega Drivers unless they can summon up the requisite fee every year to get their modified drivers signed.
The BBC honeypot was a standard PC running Windows XP Pro that was made as secure as possible. This ran a software program called VMWare which allows it to host another "virtual" PC inside the host. Via VMWare we installed an unprotected version of Windows XP Home configured like any domestic PC.
Game is already offering Wii pre-orders, although the individual stores are only doing so once they've had their allocation confirmed. Personally, I've had my Wii pre-ordered for over a week now - as the EU release date is almost a month after the US, you'd think Gamestop would have some idea as to their allocation by now. Unless, of course, NOA is much less efficient than NOE.
I've had exactly this problem - my copy of Windows is as genuine as you can get (MSDNAA Download) and yet WGA still reports it as being an illegal copy. What's stupid is that Windows Update, the WGADiag tool *and* the Firefox WGA Tool MS provide all identify it as Genuine.
I've used one of the many hacks (Removing execute permission for the Local System account to the WGA files and then deleting them) to remove WGA from my machine and now I only use MBSA for my patching. It's a little long winded, but it's infinitely better than the hassle of being repeatedly told that my copy of windows is illegal when it clearly isn't.
Luckily for Nintendo, they sold the Gamecube at a profit. It's a little known business trick in the console industry, but not selling your products at a loss is a great way to make money.
Ah no, you see that patent only applies to portable music players. Implementing a hierarchical data navigation method on a *computer* is completely different and would clearly warrant its own patent. Remember, years of prior art only count if you're working in exactly the same medium.
It is possible to run third-party security consoles in Vista, said Stephen Toulouse, a security program manager at Microsoft. However, people have to manually disable the Windows Security Center if they don't want to use it.
I tried disabling the Security Centre in Vista Beta 2; it kept popping up messages in the system tray warning me that I'd disabled the security centre and should re-enable it immediately. Try as I might I couldn't find a way to turn that off.
Don't worry, it'll happen. Best case scenario, the Lords will delay it for a bit before the government either reach a compromise or force it through via the parliment act.

Which is exactly what SCO want - to be bought up rather than to lose the case and end up bankrupt.
Not to mention the precedent it would set for other low-lifes to start legal action against IBM with the hope of being bought.
Well apart from the fact that it does, it does.

Please. Mass-appeal Virtual Reality has been "5 years off" for at least the last 15 years.

Rubbish.

Would that be the one in Guildford by any chance?
Perhaps, but my local game refused to take pre-orders initally until they got their allocation of 50 confirmed.

I knew it, the PS3 is going to bring about the apocalypse.

Well the little guys inside my PC thought it was pretty spot on.

The K Desktop Environment Environment, you say?
Well it always helps when you don't have to stick a $400+ BluRay drive in each unit.
Will they be airing the episodes in the right order?

You mean like Seamonkey?
