Tell me, what percentage of the earth's temperatures are we measuring at any one point in time?
Oh boy, all of them? Could you be any less specific? Your question already shows you have no clue. And no, I am not going to waste my time trying to tell you why, because that would be futile.
The problem is these guys are not "popular" submitters, they are "unpopular" or "infamous" submitters - and not because they submit many stories, but because the submit many stories that have something unwanted in common. In a way this is like the difference between somebody who writes you a lot of mail and a spammer.
Come to think of it, I can't remember any popular submitters; of the guys on the top ten page, I only know Pillepalle - because his links to his Blog were plain annoying, over and over again. "What the hell, I just read all that, that's almost the same words as in the other linked article, just some filler added." - "Whoah, again", "Whoah, again", "I wonder if they have something in common - hey, it's the submitter, and he's the owner of the filler-Blog - and others have noticed too"
Now if there were a way to moderate stories/submissions and to filter or mark them, there could be popular submitters.
Then how come you can search for comments in Google (and better than with Slashdot search)? Now they may not use links in comments for page rank, but they do scan them for search.
The team also found that the density of any atmosphere on the moon must be less than a millionth of that of the Earth. This argues against the theory that Pluto and Charon were formed by the cooling and condensing of the gas and dust known as the solar nebula. Instead, Charon was likely created in a celestial collision between an object and a proto-Pluto.
"Our observations show that there is no substantial atmosphere on Charon, which is consistent with an impact formation scenario," Gulbis said. Similar theories exist about the formation of the Earth-moon system.
That's not the same as "the density calculation implies that Pluto and Charon were once two separate proto-planets that because of a chance encounter are now bound by gravity".
I'm in the late 400k range and I stopped getting Mod points over 2 years ago. (And I've had excellent karma for a few years - apart from that time when it dropped to good after I got four Redundants on a post (one even canceled out his mod by posting to the threat saying the moderation was actually unfair because the other post was just 1 minute earlier and didn't contain the link I gave) - but I'm rating).
That page has "Last update 31 August 2005." at the bottom. Because it has "space wire Updated: January 06, 2006" prominently near the top, somebody thought it was news - just that this isn't "space wire".
he said nothing about E=mc^2 (so he did get it wrong)
your body going from 30 to 0 mph in a second is not going to kill you - That's barely 1.37 g. Formula 1 cars break nearly twice as hard for longer periods. Not to mention rocket starts.
the article does say that SUVs are dangerous (to others) because they are far heavier (outside a range of 1x to 1.6x).
"Body-on-frame" hasn't been the standard design of of the automobiles for decades - and for some damn good reasons. And cars and light trucks have co-existed on the US roads for much longer than 70 years because there were few light trucks compared to cars.
No, it's like WMP on Windows, just even more so. Likes to crash and controlls are useless.
Not that I think the WMP is that good on Windows either.

And we seeing people have been telling you for years it's global warming.
Yeah, and mountains are proof that pyramids are natural occurrences.

You can claim what you want about the quality of ATRAC, but it is not lossless compression.
I forgot/can't get my password!

Wrong skit. Steve is Dieter - but who will be the monkey?

Even if you can pick up thirteen year old, he can still hit vital parts.
Is that what the PS claims it delivers? Add at least 30% to that for what the supply wastes. Then look at starting up, where the real peaks show up.
Come on, tell us, how would somebody flip their car and how would breaking with or without ABS make any difference?
If anything, ABS prevents losing control of the car and skidding so that it gets perpendicular with the way it is moving, and then flips over.
So as soon as SUVs have taken over, people will buy Sports Utility Tanks to be safe again.
Your unrelated rant about DUI canna change the laws of physics.

Suddenly the sales of Renault Meganes go up in Iraq...
Well, he only got mods from guys going with their gut feeling that it was funny, no Insightfuls.
Well, this article (in German) mentions a "privacy-cap" that blinds CCDs with the light of dozens of infrared-LEDs.
Not to mention the virgin sacrifices.
