  1. state of affairs on On The Sad State of Macintosh Hardware (rogueamoeba.com) · · Score: 2

it kinda the way apple is, its the "state of affairs" of things. apple is knife focused on iOS devices. and mac is yea we do that to.
32GB ram laptops are not uncommon, even 64GB can be had... and now lenovo is pushing out a 128GB ram laptop apple? 16GB....

there is alot of people that need power, and apple is not paying attention to them. so they are moving to windows in most cases a few to linux
but most are going to windows 10, not becuase the love windows.. but because they can get better hardware.

first, like the questions everyone keeps asking is how are you getting hacked? more data would be helpful... baring that...
    somethings I would recomend.....

-if you want to change your router any of the decent reviewed routers are ok. or you can roll a bunch of options like ddwrt, etc. I just use a
    commercial one.

    - make sure your computers firewall is ON and that it logs all connections. (and that its blocking inbound)
    - if windows, makes sure the logging and auditing are on.
-use the latest version of what ever your OS is...
-look at whats actually installed, and what your actualling installing. doing install anything thats not 100% trusted. no 'warez', or priated
software, no pirated mp3, movies anything. if its not 100% trusted it needs to go... this is an important step....
-if you suspect a hack, full reinstall of everything is in order period full stop....
-do an opsec review of all your accounts, cleanup on the privacy and security settings and change all your passwords. and update security questions etc. every account should have unique random password, use something like lastpass or 1password.
-make sure your using the latest browser versions chrome is pretty good here and add flash, and ad blockers. and add httpseveryhwere
-dont click on untrusted links, or run anything untrusted like facebook games etc.
-if your using mac or windows use malwarebytes and a good security endpoint product.. sophos is free and decent.
-setup an opendns account and use it block all the bad sites in it.
-make sure all your software is always up to date
-dont run as admin, run as standard user and if windows us UAC to full. use 2nd accout for admin.

this should help your out alot.

and anyone who thinks, impress is anywhere close to keynote or powerpoint in dreaming is like 10 years behind and thats being nice. I tryed to
do a impress deck once with video, audio transitions and i spent days on it and it never worked. but i was able to do it in powerpoint in a few hours.

THATS why he used a mac.... its very simple he wants to get shit done... and I am really sure i has Linux VMs he spends most of his time in....

First make sure the windows firewall is enabled, and the inbound is set to block. you can also use device manager to disable the wireless devices if you want. but
that wont stop malware from doing an outbound connection.

    but here the short list:
1 use ciscos opendns and configure the web security rules.
    2 decent AV/security software
    3 malwarebytes
    4 chrome
5 block flash and ads, use WOT plugin
6 UAC set to full do not run as admin

  5. sure, I am sure most of the tech industry is gaming the system, but for mid level talent, or above its very hard to find people. and when you start to drill down into
some specific skillsets its gets even harder. much of the tech industry trys to find the best people. and, many of these companys are multinational so for example
if you run data centers Germany they need to be staffed by germans that handle german data. once you start forcing arcane rules you start to run into all sorts of
    issues for no reason.

better, is to address the root issues instead of blanket banning, as a protectist, isolationist which never works....

  6. I think its more than that. its already hard to find talent. many tech shops are pretty diverse places now. limiting, tech companys it bitting your nose off to spit your face.

  7. I work in the tech industry like many here on this board. I think opposing the order was the right thing. opposing it, is more than just about so called "cheap labor"
for the tech industry. for one it sets president, of what an executive order can or should do. this is not a dictatorship, we have laws and processess and they are not
    being followed.

is it possible, that the H1B program is being abused? well yea, no shit sherlock. lets dig into that and find out where and why. blanket banning like was done,
was done without thought, logic or reasons. hell the places with the most exported terrorist where not on the lists which also line up nicely as places trump
does business odd hunh? so trump gets to make sure all the places he does business with are not listed, but everyone else just has to take it? not how it works
and the tech companys and states are fighting back.

    welcome to the legal system...

    top down security;
in refence, to an above post that spoke of poor security at the local level becuase of top down security. this is also an issue but one where people with talent need to be recurited. it takes years,
of exp to be a good expert or program mgr. and thats whats needed., not sure how this could be fixed.
but haveing standards, (which exist) and have the ppl with training and talnet implamenting is key.

There is a very good reason for this, the "young" interact very differently with technology while there are 'growing up'. for example, they dont own there own houses, and if they rent have roommates etc. so they 'tend' to just live on there computers, so in this regard downloading is better for them. but that will change, they will want to watch these same movies later on the big screens. (appleTV)

I had this talk with my teenage daughter many times before shee graduated highschool, her and her friends used to think myspace was the center of the world, and email and Im was for old folks... well now... they are are dumping myspace as a primary communctaion meduim. what changed? they did; they got older and relised they have different needs and adjusted. now they are all moving tomore tradinional meduims like email and IM.

same, thing here. online digial content will be very very important. but the format for the next gen DVD is just as important. maybe more so, tho i think the recent annocemnts put the nail in the coffen kind of thing for HD DVD. on raw techincal prowess BluRay is better once you forget the DRM stuff. and for most people thats not an issue.
