    Linux might get more buy in if hardware vendors didn't have to commit to a full time employee rewriting drivers to suit the whims of some hobbyist on a caffeine and sugar bender.

    Linux doesn't need to have ATI commit to a full time employee for writing drivers. Just the same level of access to the specs like the 5+ employees writing the windows drivers.

    The Sun's OOo PDF import plugin does not import in to writer, only Impress and Draw.

    IOW: you can only do small changes. If you want to add a paragraph and push everything down, sorry. You'll have to move the content from page to page, manually!

    Alas, the softkeys drivers are laptop model specific. The manufacturer would have to create drivers for Linux or at least release the specs to create Linux drivers.

    IOW: You bought a laptop with winmodem-like support for basic hardware functions.

    Don't feel bad I got one of these, too. I didn't know until AFTER I owned it for too long. manufacturer should be shamed in public for creating such crap.

    -Making cheap ACs with low SEER ratings illegal.
    -force the market to develop new STANDARD battery size formats for electric hand tools and Garden tools.
    -force 0-watt power usage while on "standby" for most electronics (eg:

    It probably had a thicker atmosphere when its iron core was moving to create a magnetic shield from the solar wind. (like the earth)

    Too bad we can't have a big tether like this (http://www-istp.gsfc.nasa.gov/Education/wtether.html) and connect one end to the now solid core (50KM below surface!). Then maybe a new a magnetic shield could be created.

    He might have a point.

    I submitted a simple request to have a "Comment" button added to the macro editor to comment out a bunch of lines in one shot. It was quickly assigned to someone. That was about a year ago.

    Imagine how long it would take for a REAL feature request.

    I noticed corruption on-the-fly with Word (tm) because of how complex my doc was. I switched to OOo 1.x That was 5 years ago (or 275 document updates ago) and haven't see corruption yet, even as the OOo version numbers went up.
