And, to go back OT, that wind farm could be moved, much like the youth center. I'm sure that there is existing infrastructure to move power, so move the source.
I agree with you, to a point. Mind you I don't really agree with my own arguements, just putting them forth as a devils advocate. Hell, I for plonking 'em down in the middle of Marthas Vinyard, let the government elite deal with it.
I personally wouldn't care, but that is just because I live in a cheap apartment in the middle of the sprawl of Phoenix. But I probably would feel different if I spent 500k or 1mil for my property, being that that is a LARGE investment, and I probably bought the property for the view, ambience, and atmosphere. Plopping 'em down in rural Idaho is okay, since I'm sure most people there are more worried about other things, like the jobs the project would produce. But putting them somewhere where they would conflict with the total point of living in elite settings is kinda an odd idea.
Like if you moved to a seniors only community, and someone wanted to plant a youth center there. Sure, you want to keep the kids of the street, but your community ISN'T the right place, by the virtue of its existance.
Also there are plenty of other places to put it, in NO ONES backyard. America has lots of open spaces, why not stick it in one of those?
And how much money did these whining non-enviromentally friendly new-englanders spend for their pristine ocean view? More than I will probably see in my life.
If I laid down a couple million for a peice of property, I'd be very sensative to people ruining my value. That and if I spend that much cash, you'd damn better respect my view.

Science IS a belief system, you have FAITH in measurable observation, and deny that any thing is unquantifiable. You have FAITH in the method, in technique. And I could easily accuse scientists (and science "fanboys") of putting there hands over their ears and doing the exact same thing as religious fundalmentalists when confronted with something immeasurable, or unquantifiable. "If you can observe it, or describe it, it does not exist"
Of course some religious people won't listen to you, or your "proof" against them, the same as how a majority of scientists scoff at UFOs, Angels, or God. For them "proof" isn't everything, and might vary well be meaningless to their thoughts. Just because you find a problem in the logic/timing of the bible, doesn't make God obsolete, they have FAITH, just as do. By nature God is UNDESCRIBABLE, and UNQUANTIFIABLE, meaning he is completely incompatible with science. Why do I* beleive in God, because I FEEL that he exists. Proof enough.
Gut instinct is much stronger than emperical proof.
* I am not a Christian, nor do I beleive in their God. As I stated earlier, I am an animist agnostic discordian, meaning I FEEL that there is something bigger than science, and I FEEL that science is limited by nature, and cannot ever explain anything in its fullness. To make it short and accurate, I see a gestultist universe, the sum is greater than the value of your observations and maths. While I doubt that there is a sencient creator out there, I do think that there is some form of "whole being", science will never prove this, and it doesn't matter to me, your proof against it be damned, since you are nothing, and I am nothing, so we CANNOT EVER SEE THE WHOLE, which makes all proof obsolete.
But then again I value the metaphysics of old, over the physics of now (prime materialism at its best). Its all a construct anyways, so it doesn't matter.
Rabbits DO chew cud, read Watership Down, or the book tha Mr. Adams based it on, The Secret Life of Rabbits.
Evidence DOES exist for such a flood, I saw it on Discovery, must be true. And also that biblical myth was taking from Gilgamesh, so this flood was EARLIER than some silly biblical scholar says, and it happened when the ocean invaded the dead sea, there is archiological evidence of this.
There are other ways to say that the nile turned to blood, such as plumes of reg algae, which happens frequently in the Red Sea. Perhaps such a thing happened in the Nile, or perhaps someplace upstream there was a flood, pouring red mud/clay into it. Don't take things so literal, people haven't always been as damn literal as us, they had imagination, and the lack of scientific method.
Have you ever heard of metaphore or alogory? Yes? Well perchance couldn't "explain away" most of your problems?
Even today we use the term "the corners of the earth" in common speach. Does that mean we mean it is a literal truism? Nope, metaphore.
Actually some of them were doctrinal "truth" before Christ, when sects of judeaism were evolving to a more "cristian" feel, meaning more polarized, more emphasis on evil, more apocolyptic. But when the bible was officially coalated by the early church, much of it was removed because of the "gnositic" content. When Paul ruined Christianity buy making it non-Jewish and for the masses he removed all of the semi-popular dualist tendencies (badly, its still in the Bible if you look closely). Early Christianity was very close to its Zoroastrian roots, with Flesh being evil (read material world), and spirit being good. Satan created THIS universe/world, we must escape this world to Gods realm, the realm of pure spirit, do this by eschewing pleasures of the flesh, and baseness. Basically it is like all of the later heresies (Albegensian, Mani... blah).
The Apocrypha WERE in the bible, the informal bible of the time, before it was standarized. The bible now is a living political construct, if one wants to be close to the "spirit" of xtianity one must go buy sources of the times closer to Jesus than we have now, meaning the Dead Sea Scroll, and the biblical Apocrypha.
Also the Dead Sea Scrolls has text reported to have actually came from Jesus himself, and not some biased-after-the-fact quotes like the current Bible. Might as well get it from the mans mouth, and not what early church fathers wanted you to hear.
You mean "the TERM God exists", not god as a spiritual entity, unless every term is in some way a spiritual entity. And if thats what you mean, please lay off the Plato, great, the platonic ideals are a nice symbolic device, but don't map into reality.
GOD as GOD is a judeochristian construct. There is no other way to look at the capitolized God, other than in a judeochristian context, if it was a lowercase god, then it would be generic. So to talk of God is to talk of either Christianity, Islam, or Judeaism. Might be different if you were talking about Oden, Thor, Zues, Dionysus, Ra, Nut, Mithras, whatnot, but being that you use the term "God" there is no other options.
I really hate to "dis" that silly modern philosophical trend of post-modernism, but it is subjectivistic bullshit. I can think of anything I want, and it does not make it REAL. I'm pondering you dead, are you dead? No. I might think you are, but that does not make it so. I don't know of the existance of 99.9% of the worlds population, but they exist. Reality is not INTERNAL, it is EXTERNAL. Sure, you process reality internally, but that does not perfeclty mirror the real world, and to assert that it does you relive medeival magic (as above so below, blah, it's toads all the way down).
Just because I stop beleiving in the bullet careening towards my skull, doesn't make it go away.
And THIS is the problem. You give me a contradiction, and I'll refute it, then you can refute my refutation. Big nasty cycle, never ends. People should just stop it, you CAN'T refute the bible in an meaningful sense, and even if you could, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO? 1 billion people believe in it, and even if you proved the bible dead wrong, NO ONE WOULD CARE, its all about faith. (damn George Michael meme!).
I'm not a xtian of any sort, I'm more of a rabid animist agnostic discordian, but I still wouldn't want to live in a world without the Bible, the Torah, and the Koran (not counting all the Hindu, Buddhist and whatnot texts), we need a moralizing influence. Science doesn't cut it there, science has no morals, some scientists do, but as a belief system science lacks all form of everyday wisdom.
I really don't understand the "religion bashers", they are more obnoxious than the "door-to-door faith salesmen of the soul" (Mormons, Jehovas witnesses, adventists, ect...).
I think MUDs do, maybe not MMOGs. It seems (mind that I'm not an MMOG player, hate the damn things) that people playing in MMOGs get MORE connected to their characters and such than in MUDs. Also people in MMOGs seem to take the game more seriously than MUDers did. Maybe this is a generational thing, or a "time spent gaming" thing. People who start online gaming with MMOGs didn't participate in the PK laden atmosphere of most MUDs, so take it as a personal affront, and don't have the practiced patience needed to weather a good PKing.
If I recall correctly, it was a late development in MUDing to have NOPK options, or pure NOPK MUDs (maybe not true in MUSH and MOOs). Some MUDs were even pure PK, like a text based Quake3. Granted that sometimes PK-action on MUDs could get out of hand, with you cowering under the healer, equip-less, and defensless while roving bands of people over-level rampage the lands. but that depended on the enviroment of the MUD, the smaller the MUD, the less frequent unwarrented PKs were. (i.e. not clan warfare, or revenge)
I think possibly (as a tangent) that maybe a more MUD like structure might partially "cure" the PK problem on MMOGs and Bnet. Have IMPs that can punish people, directly. Like lowering levels, removing equipment, kill-sacing (killing, and removing all equipment), or putting negative (or aggro!) flags on players. Also, IMHO, sanctioned clans kept down PKing, being that each clan had a POINT, not just a bunch of 1337-f00s running around acting like their butch, because in real life they are a bunch of idiot pubecent morons. Also clan leadership was answerable to the IMMs, and other clans (each ussually headed by an IMM, for better punishment capabilities).
Ack, sorry, I wrote a soc. paper on MUD structures.
"TV and Games don't have a direct biological feed back like drugs do."
This is not true. Any form of stimulous that contains some form of pleasure has a biological feedback element. This is the basis of operant conditioning (behind all the psycho-mumbo-jumbo), if you get possitive stimulous from ANYTHING it will release natural endorphins and opiates into your brain, opiates and endorphins are addictive in the classical (and hence your sense of the word) sense. The stimulous becomes linked to the chemical release of addictive substances, and you want more, and are more likely to do the same activity again, be it sex, video games, driving fast, sky diving, jogging, beating you dog, whatnot.
Video games are esspecially bad in this aspect, since you get psychically (not in the bending spoons sense) connected to your characters/avatar, meaning this his/her acheivements have a larger impact on your own feelings. that rush you get when you win that death match isn't just a warm fuzzy, that is your brain spewing forth much opiates/endorphins/dopamines. Same thing for that sense of thrill you get when watching kill . Or that jump you get when the cat jumps out of the closet in the bad horror movie. All of that is CHEMICAL.
Same thing for books, ever stay up 'til 4:30am when you KNOW that you have something to do in 2 hours? Thats not just stupidity, that is little chemicals being released by your brain.
Why do you think that marajuana is addictive? It isn't a latent chemical in the weed, it is the pleasure associated WITH the weed (same for LSD). And with weed, as in video games (espec. MMOs) they are also socially addictive, especially for those who lack a support structure IRL. Hence part of the steriotypical gamer/geek is justified, in that we are freindless dorks, who must seek stimuli outside our enviroment.
Um, that and the fact that you might be the 1% of the pop that still uses an AppleIIe. My still functioning C64 can still take tapes, provided I put a coffee mug on the cover, but... um... 99% of tapes are used for music, and probably 30% of CDs.
Brings to mind the crap that is two of my Clutch CDs, play okay in a CD player, but put them in a computer and they load up some crappy software interface, with all sorts of extra crap. Too bad I just want to listen to music on winamp while I work, and not want to sit around and watch pretty pictures move around, and have a vast selection of annoying crap ready at my noncaring finger tips. Not to mention the fact that on of the programs won't RUN on any computer I tried it on, PC and Mac.
So I downloaded both CDs from Kazaa, thus ignoring protection, AND pirating.
If I'm going to pay $16 for a CD I want RAW data. Why punish everyone who buys the CD, just because some people might copy it to a P2P?
Saying that a blank cassette tape is 1 dollar, and saying that the RIAA gets one cent of that. Then a CDR costs 5 cents, the RIAA should get.05 cents of that. BUT only those "music" CDRs, not the ones I'm gonna be burning my Kazaa Lite copied copy of Photoshop! Let some other industry type try to sue me for that.
On a serious note, why not let the RIAA charge some cost on those "music" CDRs, or any device made SAYING that it can be used to copy music? I mean if they taxed by potencial then EVERYTHING would be taxed, but if they tax by intent, then it would be okay. One of the problems, I guess, is that tapes are ONLY for music, and CDs can be used for any digital media. Same for tape players vs. CD-ROM drives.
I was a dispicable PIRATE! Me and my freinds used to COPY each others TAPES, and distribute them among ourselves! And I always thought that this was fair use.
I'm guessing that it was, because it wasn't digital, or observable, or trackable, or whatnot. Wait, scratch the digital part, some of mym freinds still send around mix CDs to each other, and the RIAA hasn't really said anything against that (have they?). Must just be illegal on the internet.
I really doubt that NO ONE would be producing cars. To reify the analogy, look at the music industry, everyone KNOWS that someone is going to copy their music (and I'm sure some people HOPE that someone will), and yet people still make it. And don't tell me it is ALL for profit.
If copying cars was possible, then the making of new cars would stop being the cashcow of big industry, and instead become a grassroots movement. Think of open source cars, or hobbiest car clans, or whatever. People would just make cool cars to be reccognized, and not to become uberbillionaires. Hell there might even be shareware (or nagware> car companies out there, "if you liked my car, send me $1k so I can make more!".
Same thing with music, most of the little indie bands I know are in it for the joy of doing it, and for the egotistical payoff of having people like it. If I could have 5000 people have an illegal copy of my music I would be happier than having 500 people cough up $17 for it.
Same thing for cars, I'd say. And it might get rid of the attrocious lack of choice in the car market, do you want an ugly round car, or a HIDEOUS round car?
Um, no. I want broadband because it's FASTER than 56k, period. It's called improvement, not piracy. I really am sick of waiting 5 minutes to load a page with five banner ads, and a flash ad embedded, or ten minutes just to load up some cheesy game on newgrounds.com, or mayhap I am just sick of my 300+ ping while playing UT2k3/CS/Quake3/Evercrack/whateverelseIwantoplay.
Right now I'm in the process of shopping for broadband, because i just moved to a new apartment with crappy speeds, I can only connect in dialup up to 26400, and sometimes as low as 19200, while paying Erfwink, the worlds LEAST reliable ISP 21.00 a month, for speeds that I was sick of in the mid 90's.
Sure I *CAN* pirate more warez with a nice 250/650k connection, or I could download a *GRIP* of pr0n, or just meet new people, and FRAG them.
If your going to rewrite the workings of something, why keep CD's as your standard? If you want to COMPLETELY change the technology, why not just make a whole new form of nonmobile media, like REALLY high-density flash cards, or some other form of chip-based memory (volitile or non)?
Why bother with the CD aspect of it? CDs (music at least) are going to go the way of the dodo soon (methinks) anyway. Ipod like Mp3 players are better for music, and DVDs really don't have much of speed problem (ain't broke), and why shouldn't software come on some form of USB drive?
While this is a very "interesting" (quoth the mods) article, I'm doubting its validity, being that THERE IS NO SOURCE! I really don't even understand how anyone could even mod it up intersting, being it is possibly a complete fiction. An important rule to live by, if you want to sound intelligent, CITE YOUR GADAMN SOURCES! Especially if it is a quote, as this seems.
Never claimed you were bothering me. I really don't care what people do, as long as it doesn't disrupt my game. I personally HATE rushing, to me it defeats the purpose of playing.
But then again I almost completely gave up on bnet, and stick to single player, at least until 1.10
I haven't actually zipped a file in years, RAR I found to be a much better archive format, more compact and faster. WinRAR has much better options too, like solid-compression and in archive comments.
Recently I was trying to hack an protected RAR, not for illegal purposes, just that I forgot my pw and it was pretty old. Doing the research into how to actually crack it, I discovered that there is a whole array of tool to hack ANY archive, ussually by using rule based attacks, but the newer RARs are only hackable with brute force and dictionary attacks. Much more secure than.zip.
I really doubt that breaking the standard is going to help either company. Back in the day, when WinZip first came out it would have MASSIVELY helped PKware, since every user was used to typing out "c:\telix\down\> pkunzip -e doom2v159.zip", meaning they had mad brand recognition. But now I don't think that the average user knows that WinZip and PKZip are different entities, actually I doubt that most users have ever heard of PKware. So this might actually HURT PKware. How many little banners have you seen saying "GET PKZIP!"?
Um... Don't you have to go through the Arcane Sanctuary to GET to the right tomb? You need the porthole to GET there, you need to kill the Summoner to get the porthole, you have to go through the AS to GET TO the Summoner.
And, to go back OT, that wind farm could be moved, much like the youth center. I'm sure that there is existing infrastructure to move power, so move the source.

Then a CDR costs 5 cents, the RIAA should get .05 cents of that.
I really am sick of waiting 5 minutes to load a page with five banner ads, and a flash ad embedded, or ten minutes just to load up some cheesy game on newgrounds.com, or mayhap I am just sick of my 300+ ping while playing UT2k3 /CS /Quake3 /Evercrack /whateverelseIwantoplay.
10 years from now, on slashdot, a huge article with teachers bemoaning the fact that "touch typing" has gone the way of cursive.
WinRAR has much better options too, like solid-compression and in archive comments.
.zip.
Much more secure than
I really doubt that breaking the standard is going to help either company.
