With all respect, perhaps you might like to really think about what you are saying before you post. it is very easy to post total rubbish, I know I've done it myself all over the place. But you should avoid this if you want to make your feelings known.
It's not a question of censoring yourself, merely putting the way you feel in a manner that is understandable.
Then more people will take in what you've said, your post is more effective, and you've done something positive. It's worth an extra 30 secs of thining time, or a couple of reviews of what you're saying.
Putting yourself badly makes people ignore you/mark you down and no-one listens to you in the end, which is not right, as you say.
Oh, and always check your facts. :-) Trolls might live under bridges, but pedants hide behind bushes ready to pounce at any time. ;-)

Just because QNX decided to pretend that they'd not been dropped and bring out their tech just before the Amiga was finally announced properly, doesn't mean that was a last minute decision.
I think it was quite a wise decision personally as linux has more developer mindshare (to coin a phrase), there are fewer licence restrictions and if you believe the rumours it is not as if Linus Torvalds is not too far away to get advice from, is it?
Why don't we al wait till November to see what is released, or if you're impatient, the next press release? Might save premature obituaries.

Fine - but what about when someone wishes to use Linux on a desktop not on a network? I'm well aware that networking is everywhere these days but even so, that does not mean that you are going to have enough bandwidth to run X apps along the line.
Surely using a windowing system that is written for distributed computing is inappropriate in terms of system overheads for a single desktop?

  16. Supervision is the key! on Ask Slashdot: Computer Charities for the Children? · · Score: 1

You're worried about liability? Then say to all parents who would consider this scheme: "I reccomend that you supervise your child's internet usage."
This has two positive effects - firstly it allows the parents to make sure their kids don't look up anything they don't want them to (and that doesn't mean Slashdot surely?) and secondly it can help young children make sense of what they see. The Internet is an adult medium in many ways, and all too often information is put there for people who browse through web sites and pick up the salient information points. Kids can't do this! They need time to learn and to take things in so having parents there to explain what is happenening is always good.
If the parents are responsible then they won't stop their children from visiting sites that are informative and educational, and they will use the Internet as the tool it can be.
it also encourages them to see the positive sids of it too! if the parents sit with their kids and go through sites together they end up seeing lots of stuff that may wel convince them that it isn't fll of porn and bomb-making instructions like some poor fools still believe.
Supervision - it takes away the responsibilty from you and givews power to them.

  19. Why Rabin? on Time's Man of the Century: Linus Torvalds? · · Score: 1

Firstly, Linus shouldn't be anywhere near that top 20 list. For next century? Perhaps. Not for this one, though.
And what the hell is Yitzak Rabin doing at the top? he was a fine man, but he's not oe of the most influential people this century by a long shot.
I voted for Lenin, because he is, in my opinion, the most influential person this century. it is fair to say he was only a leader of a group but he was a strong leader, and he helped create a country that became very strong, and very influential. Look at the effect it had on the US!
Without the USSR there to fight against, would Hitler have lost WW II? I think he'd have had better odds, at least. And there would not have been a Cold War for certain.

Princess Diana is about as influential a person in terms of this century as I am ie. not at all.
Now if we made a list of influential computing people who were up there, RMS would have to win out against Linus any day.
    Ho hum. Another tuppence worth.
