Nope, blockbuster in Canada, last time I rented a movie it was at least 5 bucks... I think it came to 5.47 iirc... the movie theatre that is closest to my house is 6.50 normally. And it's not that ghetto... sure it's not stadium seating, but that's why it's only 6.50 to get in.
Did I twist the numbers? Hell yeah, this is slashdot!
Rudeness doesn't seem to be as big a problem here... not that it doesn't exist... but not that big of a problem.
Granted my point was just that this isn't the death knell for cinemas that the article makes it up to be.
It doesn't matter to me. If I go to see the movie at the cinema on cheap night, it's 5-7 bucks. If I wait 5 months to rent it and watch it on my 20 year old TV and VCR, it's still 5-6 bucks... so why would I wait? I wouldn't.
Sure, the chump with $20,000 home theatre could wait, but obviously, money isn't a big factor in his decision.
Personally, I enjoy a night at the movies, but I also enjoy snuggling up at home to a movie with the girlfriend... I think both will be around for a while, personally.
I'm sure someone said similar things when VHS was introduced.
That with Oilmen in the whitehouse that this project won't get underway anytime soon.

A spokesman for Connexion by Boeing, the subsidiary that produces the system, said it would allow the use of palmtop-based e-mail service in addition to laptops, and speeds far higher than the Swift 64 system, 20 gigabits per second.
Gotta hate this... pay big bucks and you get sweet speeds on a figgin' plane, while the unwashed masses down here still have crappy 56k in many places! Damn capitalist pigs!
I wonder if they'll charge big bucks for access, like they do with the phones on the planes?
Well, what can I do on a base G4 that I can't on your normal PC? I can't burn DVDs on either one, unless I spring for the burner.
On both I can burn CDs, browse, play games, email, etc, etc... it's easy for people to come over and use my computer for things too. They sit down at my linux box and look at me with a blank stare.
I'd love to buy one, but I don't have the extra money laying around for one. The base model starts at $1,599! US Dollars too! For 2600 Canadian here I can put together once hell of a good PC.
Don't get me wrong, I like the macs, it's just way too costly for me!

"2001 was the warmest year since 1653 (or thereabouts) which begs the question, exactly who or what was emitting CO2 at present day levels back then?"
Probably just an error converting to celcius or something...
The photo made me do a double take because it looks fake! Seriously, it looks like a photoshop job from the onion!

Well no wonder, every time he makes progress, we go and slashdot his site, so he has to redirect all his funds to bandwidth bills.
Overall, very good questions, but just to nitpick ;)
In these times of rising violent crime isn't it about time the US government got back to the needs of the people not the needs of large corporations.
Violent crime seems to be on the decline.
So would the water be saline, like our oceans? Or would it all be fresh water?

I, for one, don't need to see any kind of digital extensions from Jar Jar...
No, they were only built to last 20-30 years... so eventually a replacement is needed...

Betcha the polar bears would enjoy the change from seals and garbage.
Advanced research and technical notes are being handed over to the Chinese without question. It couldn't be going better for the Communists.
Can anyone back up this claim? I mean it doesn't seem like good business sense to just give things away for free to a competiting nation...
