You already can, they offer Tivo series 2 users a 15 day trial of Sonic MyDVD. If you want to keep burning the programs to DVD however you do have to buy the program from Sonic.
Or you could right click on My Computer, click 'advanced', click on 'settings' in the performance box, and then on the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab.
Although they hardly have the same selection (and nothing new) check out a free trial of CinemaNow. It's only older movies and even those aren't mainstream movies for the most part. They have an unlimited download subscription, or even the chance to buy them (usually around $10) and have a non-DRM encumbered title (I think).
Interesting, I've been trying to figure out if Zip.ca (Canadian company similar to Netflix) has been doing this. First month I returned a disc, they got it next day and sent out mine, I got it the following day. Second month was just as fast. Third month I went through some quicker and now it's taking an extra 2 days per shipment from them upon receiving my discs.
It's not, but if the user knows to do that then hopefully it was something they're expecting and was told (not as part of the e-mail however) to expect a.zipitydoodah file....
The one thing you are missing is that video stores pay a huge premium on 'rental' copies of their movies, and it's most likely the small stores are just buying standard consumer copies (identical except for cost).
I'm not saying I agree that there should be two price tiers, just that there is a reason those small stores charge less. Those convienience stores also have other products to sell and the videos are simply a supplement to other revenue.
Or you can use their solution of purchasing Sonic's MyDVD 6.1 and use it to burn those to a DVD. They have a 15-day trial available, but after that you'd need to purchase the MyDVD 6.1 to continue burning tivo2go files...
Why even bother posting as an anonymous coward if you're just gonna tell us who you are:)
Maybe it's an acquired taste, but I like it. I also drank 2 and a half bottles of dextromethorphan cough syrup. That was one of my very bad experiments. Watched Ren and Stimpy for a while and just felt tense and sleepy at the same time. When for a drive and started seeing geographic hallucinations everywhere. Also felt the feeling of being alone. Headache. I then passed out and woke 13 hours later to a 2 day hang-over.
It's their money to do what they see fit... did you have McDonalds for lunch ever? Couldn't you have instead given that money to a homeless person? Or give up coffee for a month to adopt a child in another country.
No one (except maybe your wife/gf, but this is slashdot) tells you what you can and can't do with your money... it's not one person donating millions, each person is asked for a small amount./kick mod_critical #high_horse
5) Right now , the media is CDR only. But when I asked about DVDR media in LightScribe format I was not greeted with "no, way". But instead I was informed that if the media became available during beta testing, they would send it. That sort of tells me its in the works.
Yes lightscribe DVD works identical to CD-R including the color of the surface. However the "print" quality on the DVD discs is significantly lower. Even a high quality "print" appears blurry where the same "print" on CD looks crisp.
You can right now, check CompUSA or order a new system from HP (although yes they only come with new systems at this moment). You can go in to a store and buy one as a part of a system or order and have it delivered.... so shush.
Haven't you heard of TiVoToGo. You can already download the recordings to your pc and then burn using Sonic MyDVD 6.1

TV licenses? can you explain?
Slashdot is a forum for discussion, get over it.
>> A nice little scam for ebay, though.
And how much of this $1.50 is e-bay getting?
Ack, I forgot that non-Americans can't post comments where they RTFA and it's a US source.

Translation: I didn't pay for the software so I can't call them

Wrong. Remember the child molesting priest that was killed in jail? The inmates don't take to kindly to f'd up shit any more then we do.
You must be new here.
By that logic it should also have no problems on my Speak and Spell.

There is no ink, just special discs. The lightscribe discs have a dye on the top side that reacts to the laser used to "print".

Well forget the marker for writing to CDs, the folks behind LightScribe (HP) have given us 101 USES FOR YOUR PERMANENT MARKERS.
