  1. Not a bad idea. on Doctor Who To Be Axed, Again · · Score: 1

I appreciate everything Davies was trying to accomplish, but I think it is time for a new (or rather, "old") direction for the show. These self-contained 1 hour long doctor who episodes are okay, but they are too much like the X files and are just too formulaic at this point. Bring back the 1/2 hour cliffhanger format, the pseudo-shakespearean actors, cheap sets, and Douglas Adams-style scripts (RIP). And for the love of god, stop making every episode happen on earth!

  2. One MAJOR difference: on Through the Patent Looking Glass with Microsoft · · Score: 1

Music pirates are actively and knowingly breaking copyright law, Linux users are not breaking any laws. Yes, Microsoft claims they are violating their "intellectual property", but patents are not like copyrights, you have to first prove your patent is valid. So far Microsoft hasn't even said what patents they are claiming are being violated.

  3. Put an efficiency meter in every car. on Hybrid Cars No Better than 'Intelligent' Cars · · Score: 1

Mandate a fuel efficiency meter in every new car and truck, and put it in a prominent place on the dashboard that is easy to read quickly without taking your eyes off the road for more than 2 seconds. Yes, it would add a small amount to the cost of the car, but it would pay for itself for people who use it to learn how their driving style affects their fuel efficiency.

A fairly significant population of the United States believes in the "rapture", which is essentially just as insane as any voluntary extinction movement. The very idea that humanity needs to be exterminated in order to cleanse the earth comes directly out of the bible and it is this irrational religious heritage of our society that breeds extremism in its many forms.

  6. Zunior.com on Apple To Grant All Labels DRM-Free Distribution · · Score: 2, Informative

For the regular price ($8.88 CDN per album) you get 192kbps non-DRM'd MP3's. For $2.00 CDN extra, you get the same album in FLAC format. Their entire catalog is in non-DRM format and they have been doing it this way for a lot longer than Apple. As an added benefit, they a support all platforms equally, so you can use Windows, OS X or even Linux to browse and buy music.

I've seen this claim before. If this is "for certain", then I suppose it should be easy for you to produce some actual evidence to back it up. And please, don't bother linking to this discredited study.

Also don't forget that burning coal to produce electricity releases a large amount of mercury into the environment, so less efficient incandescent bulbs will, over their lifetime, cause more airborne murcury to be released than CFL's.
