I appreciate everything Davies was trying to accomplish, but I think it is time for a new (or rather, "old") direction for the show. These self-contained 1 hour long doctor who episodes are okay, but they are too much like the X files and are just too formulaic at this point. Bring back the 1/2 hour cliffhanger format, the pseudo-shakespearean actors, cheap sets, and Douglas Adams-style scripts (RIP). And for the love of god, stop making every episode happen on earth!
Music pirates are actively and knowingly breaking copyright law, Linux users are not breaking any laws. Yes, Microsoft claims they are violating their "intellectual property", but patents are not like copyrights, you have to first prove your patent is valid. So far Microsoft hasn't even said what patents they are claiming are being violated.
Mandate a fuel efficiency meter in every new car and truck, and put it in a prominent place on the dashboard that is easy to read quickly without taking your eyes off the road for more than 2 seconds. Yes, it would add a small amount to the cost of the car, but it would pay for itself for people who use it to learn how their driving style affects their fuel efficiency.
A fairly significant population of the United States believes in the "rapture", which is essentially just as insane as any voluntary extinction movement. The very idea that humanity needs to be exterminated in order to cleanse the earth comes directly out of the bible and it is this irrational religious heritage of our society that breeds extremism in its many forms.
For the regular price ($8.88 CDN per album) you get 192kbps non-DRM'd MP3's. For $2.00 CDN extra, you get the same album in FLAC format. Their entire catalog is in non-DRM format and they have been doing it this way for a lot longer than Apple. As an added benefit, they a support all platforms equally, so you can use Windows, OS X or even Linux to browse and buy music.
Western States Center has documented 102 incidents of harassment against environmentalists and public employees from 1989 through the present. Forty-one of the incidents reported occurred in 1996.
when total life cost is taken into account, even some small SUVs are actually lower energy impact than a Toyota Prius.
I've seen this claim before. If this is "for certain", then I suppose it should be easy for you to produce some actual evidence to back it up. And please, don't bother linking to thisdiscredited study.
Nope, but I suspect they will not be using laptop batteries in the final version (the car is still under development). There are companies now making batteries that work much better for EV's.
Also don't forget that burning coal to produce electricity releases a large amount of mercury into the environment, so less efficient incandescent bulbs will, over their lifetime, cause more airborne murcury to be released than CFL's.
There is NO compelling or practical reason to dump the queen as a symbolic head of state. And no, being disrespected by someone on the internets is no reason to throw your entire country's history away.
Keep in mind that even taking into account the full energy cycle of both technologies, ICE (gasoline) vehicles are significantly less energy efficient than electric's:
I agree 100% about the sharks. DARPA could not have come up with a better way to help ensure the extinction of sharks, because now every country that thinks they have something to worry about will be catching and killing as many sharks as they can find, and the species is already heavily fished and at risk.
For my 65+ year old inlaws, it only took me about an hour to setup the various proprietary codecs and plugins (thanks Adobe, Apple and Microsoft!) as well as decss so they could surf the web and play DVD's. OS X is great in its own way, but Ubuntu on a $499 Lenovo laptop makes for a sweet "simple" system for computer-phobes.

zero days is what it took
nine times the speed of light
furthering the decryption process
nine billion more we'll fight
one of the interests' paid
one bought off the lobbyists
zero have credibility, and then
two more become hobbyists
nine times again repeated
decryption saves our land
seven collective minds, and
four fingers on each hand
everything in moderation
three people had once told us
five more implied it directly
before the last one: SCOTUS
despite what they have said
eight times every hour
four and more still do it
one more makes it power
five is just a number
six is what it leads
can anyone own the very bits
five of these misdeeds
six is oh so fancy, but
three is also great
five is more than that, but
six likes the added weight
eight is what i said
eight will make them fall
challenge those who limit
zero's one and all

Check out the videos on the White Zombie EV drag racer site.
When considering the full energy cycle of ICE cars vs EV's, EV's are more efficient by a fairly significant amount.

As is Commuter Cars.
The Smart Roadster was pretty cool. Too bad they never brought it here.

Zunior.com has been selling music from these exact artists in DRM-free MP3 format for a while now. And unlike Puretracks, they do not block Mac users.

Yeah and its not like the USA has ever lied about intelligence before, so why should we not believe them this time when they cry wolf?

On this planet we obey the laws of thermodynamics!
Out of curiosity, I wonder if the accountants at the SEC ever investigate the ads TV stations play for their own shows during prime time?

I'm not affiliated, other than being a very happy customer.

I'm not very happy with my pile of rocks for counting, so I think I'm going to upgrade to an abacus once the price comes down just a LITTLE further.
It's worse than that. Cell has 9 cores.
