they won't be tracking most of my purchases - i left america back in 1998 when i realised far too many of my fellow citizens were spending far too much time discussing clinton's penis and not nearly enough time paying attention to laws like the dmca and dozens of others. or the widening gap between rich and poor. or dealing honestly and constructively with the multitude of injustices in american society. or seriously working on environmental, health and waste issues.

instead, people were more interested in clinton's penis, the amazing efficiency of private industry (how efficient were they really?), and buying suv's.

no one was all that interested in protecting freedom - maybe their pet freedoms but no one elses.

as far as i can see, things haven't changed much.

and actually, come to think of it, the us gov't does track a lot of my activity. eschelon is alive and well and has been for years. sounds like domestic american citizens will be getting a taste of what the rest of the world has gotten. if it feels invasive and wrong, keep in mind that unlike the rest of the world you guys have a say.

i think if you search on my name, you'll find that i offer a great deal of help. in fact just this week a person sent me mail thanking me for an answer i found and posted regarding laptops nearly three years ago.

the fact is that microsoft is actively trying to destroy linux and free software. they don't believe in competition, they believe in monopoly. they believe in putting free software developers and admins out of work. and they use a slew of tactics to do that.

i do think people should have choice. i have nothing against other closed source software publishers like oracle, sun, compaq or apple. but then that's because they are not actively targeting my hobby, my livelihood and the hobbies/livelihoods of my friends. they do compete, but not in an agressive and frequently unethical manner.

so, yes, i'm annoyed by people that support such an organisation. and i'm utterly disgusted by people that support such organisations and have the utter gall to then come to communities which have a large number of free software users with a question about how to spooge off our work.

so rant all you want, that's my perception and i'm sticking to it. i'm more then willing to help people who are not blatently unethical.

secondly the gpl requires authors to maintain credit within source files. not advertising, but credits in the source files have to stay.

yes, in europe that's true. however that's only because no country in europe is that large. folks in russia, australia, or some south american country might have the same roam-less situation as americans and yet still be able to roam around the world.

i note you still fail to note the main thrust of my argument that mobile phone access is cheaper, more ulbiquitous and improving at a faster rate then in the usa in spite of your theory.

  16. Re:Why that solution isn't better on Calling Cell Phones Could Cost More · · Score: 2

fascinating theory. however practice does not bear it out. mobile phones are cheaper here in europe, we have a more mature and more usable network, and costs are staying the same or falling. plus new services are coming online every day - roaming functions for prepaid customers, picture messaging, gprs, etc.

plus there's still the fact that my mobile phone works here in ireland, and across nearly every developed country in the world. today. right now. (when roaming i have to pay to receive calls)

you're missing a slew of pressures. many businesses in europe purchase a large number of phones for their sales, tech and other mobile staff members. they have account managers who handle telecoms costs and will look for services that have cheap rates for their calling patterns - that includes calls from land line based staff members to mobile based staff members. some mobile networks are cheaper to call then others - and for the same reason that "friends and family" programs in america exist to boos subscribers.

essentially you're promoting a theory that has no basis in fact. the facts actually completely dispute what you theorise and have for over 10 years. you're like the wireless worlds version of the flat earth society.

what does it mean, "i am a christian?" the problem is that a lot of people say "i'm a christian," and it means a lot of things. it means they supported the crusades. it means they supported the inquisition. it means they denied rights to irish catholics before irish independence. it means they killed american indians. it means acted as colonial powers. it means they stood silent while children were physically or sexually abused.

or does it mean none of those?

in my lifetime i've heard christians say fags must die - in boston a guy had a four foot high placard on his car proclaiming that gays will burn in hell. i've heard christians berating single mothers - and i saw the hurt look in the eyes of my single mother. i've seen them hover over poorly performing college students hoping to convince them to drop out and join their church. i've seen them try to stop stem cell research. i've seen them try to stop a 13 year old rape victim from getting an abortion. i've seen them shout abuse at women going to an abortion clinic. i've heard them explain that white people were created and blacks evolved.

very few christians supported all of those things, but a lot of christians supported some of them.
