um, that is done to libraries. gluing pages together, cutting them out, destroying books and stealing them. that's done to libraries around america to censor views and ideas people disagree with.
right-wing christians made up a significant percentage of bush's vote. they want something for that vote. they're getting it - they're getting an administration that is responsive to their point of view in the "culture wars."
and they're not getting it by resting on their laurels. every day tens of thousands of them are writing letters, calling elected officials from dog catcher on up, writing letters to the editor and generally making sure that their view of america is the one that wins.
people can yammer on about how they don't have a mandate, about why people voted for bush, about liberals and conservatives and libertarians, and on and on. but at the end of the day the christian right has a lot of power in america, and they are making progress on their agenda. so the question is this:
if you disagree with the christian right, what are YOU doing to oppose them?
no he does not want to be taken seriously. did you even watch the crossfire episode?
did you see the part where they asked him who he he would get the best material from as a professional comment? his response was yes, because my professional comic career is more important than being a citizen.
john stewart is, among other things, a citizen of the united states. he was invited as john stewart the comedian, but he came as john stewart the citizen. and the citizens of our country are being betrayed by the poor state of journalism in this country. and john stewart, citizen, addressed the media when he got the chance.
as far as his career on the daily show - sure, he amused himself (and many others) with his interview with kerry. and if you actually saw that, you'll see he was taking digs at the media as he does on every show.
regardless of who wins this election, john stewart the citizen (and all the rest of us) will still be given poor service by the media. and almost more important than this election, the media needs to change. journalism needs to serve the public interest.
ok, so people here seem to think that 3rd parties are already taken care of - by suing them. first, i'd like some rules requiring them to take precautions. and in case they do have accidents, it would be nice if they had some money or insurance. so it would be a good idea to require that.
passenger safety would be nice. there are some precautions that should be required and there should be an honest assessment of what those precautions should be. safety and security are things that lend themselves to snake-oil claims.
someone when before the american people and presented false information as factual. and people feel that once that information is proven false, that the person who presented it should at least apologise and at most should resign.
ok. i can agree with that. so after we're done going after rather for lying about bush's guard service, can we then go after bush for lying about, you know, sending the country to war in iraq. i know starting a war isn't as important as trying to figure out if the son of a rich and powerful politician got preferential treatment during a draft (like that would ever happen), but it seems like something we could, at some point possibly, give a little look over...
i know, i know, i'm a commie anti-american islamic terrorist atheist liberal. dunno what i was thinking. please go back to destroying my country. i'll just sit over here and mourn her demise.
there used to be an o'reilly book - essential system administration. billed as the book you need when your admin isn't around. dunno if they maintain it, but it was great back in 1995.
to encourage them to learn, show them the intro man pages - man 1 intro; man 2 intro; man 3 intro; etc.
why do i think this is just a power grab? lanl gets lots of research dollars. if i ran some defense contractor i'd want a piece of that. i might even donate to people that might make that happen.
if i was a reporter i'd go investigate that. bummer news organisations gave up on hiring reporters.
ah well, it's not like a democracy needs a strong press. oh, wait, it's dictatorship that doesn't need that. huh. ah well, the trains run better in those, so who really cares?
...and the link makes me doubt it, you could email me at kevin@doolin.com. almost all of our work involves linux, financial transaction systems, sms and web front-ends.
as i live in north co. galway, i'd be eager to see you succeed.
gosh, yes, you're right. i hadn't thought of that. now, if i was familiar with the concept of sarcasm then maybe just possibly i might have been making a Very Different Point. but what are the chances of that.
so thank you very much for pointing that out to me. i feel much more edjeekated now.
hm, at three you might have known about locations of wet and messy diapers. how can you be sure if those weren't the wmd's they were searching for?:)
btw, i'm an atheist and i'm currently trying to pry open the minds of some conservatives. one of them has made some pretty outrageous comments about muslims in general. i don't think i'm doing a good job defending islam. but then i don't fish either, so i'd be hard-pressed to defend angling over fly-fishing.
actually michael moore has requested that people question everything - including what he says. i saw him speak in dublin and while i didn't agree with many things he said, he was very upfront that people should research and learn.
in fact in one interview his main complaint was that a lot of the stuff in f.9/11 which people say is "new" is not new at all - he just asked around to find it. essentially he said, "i'm just a schmuck who only graduated from high school with no training in journalism - how is it that i found this stuff and "real" journalists didn't?"
as a person who has followed tech "journalism" for years, i can actually answer his question. but like him, i don't much like the answer.
yet again gov't fails to lead the industry. look at the accounting issues in tyco, enron and worldcom. looks like nasa is just trying to play catchup to private industry!

i'll go install it on my sharp zaurus. what's the url for the arm solaris distro?
right.
i'm aware that it's sarcasm. i didn't think i needed to point that out. did you even read my post? who did i say showed up - the comic or the citizen.
sheesh.

try http://www.mingw.org/
it's a version of gcc that builds native windows code. and it cross-compiles from linux if you'd like.

if they're really interested in testing their software, why not pick a month where there some known terrorists flying?

the older of the washington area snipers was given an honorable discharge and he spent time in the brig during his service.

well if you'd just fscking join the euro already. you'd even be able to keep your beloved queen on your coins.
though i have this theory that the uk is trying to decide which single currency to join - the dollar or the euro...
"How the arse could I not have been being sarcastic too?"
"how the arse"
"have been being"
exxon just rang me, they want to know if you've found oil yet? oh - and if not would you consider continuing your dig?
thanks.

yes, windows is as stable as linux. especially with all those linux viruses and linux spyware out there...

yes, art almost never mixes with politics.
moron.
there are things to watch out for besides an asteroid hitting earth. the sun won't last forever.
and no, it won't affect us or our great-great-great-great-etc-grandchildren, but space travel is a big fscking journey. we need to start stepping.
565 billion in bad accounting? pathetic.
