I know this really doesn't answer his question but couldn't the transmeta chip be programmed to emulate PowerPc chips. Not that I have see a whole lot more transmeta mobo's out there.
This is why the discussion of existence of GOD are ultimately unfruitful. What would be the mathematical definition of goodness that you will meaure the average of. All we can measure is material wealth, social status or health; and even the bible doesn't promise any of that. In fact the bible promises quite a bit of suffering for the average believer (ie.social/family rejection, loss of material wealth, etc..). So that measurement will say nothing about the promises of god (as far as Christianity is concerned).
Ultimately, I am in no way a believer, but it is not because of any definite way to refute the logic of religion. (One must also be careful not to confuse the selfish acts of people with the beliefs that they are supposed to represent)
I dont' really know if this is an exact rebuttal to your colloidal silver statement, but they do use gold for treatment of rhematoid arthritis. My brother was on gold treatments for only a little while and the effects are very visable. Like another post says you skin tone does begin to change and from the fact that they didin't want him on it for too long I assume the substance is pretty toxic. (he felt that, while it did seem to control the effects of his arthritis, that the cure felt worse than the original ailment) Not that gold and silver are equiv, but by the profit margin hypothosis they should want to prescribe gold either.
Except for the fact that she won't be able to actually use the 89 until her junior year. (No teacher in their right mind would allow that calculator in the intro Calc series) The 86 is good enough for most people.
I do not know if this is classified as under "fair use" but I think that there might be precedent on the side of bnetd. I think that one is allowed to reverse engineer a protocol in the name of interoperability. While not an exact analogy, it would be like how Sun and Corel are allowed to RE Office file formats. (those are definately competing products)
The Jukebox is actually a Via C3 home built system designed to run silent and cool. It does not require cooling fans and makes very little hard disk noise
The binary doean't seem to have TT font support compiled in. try "export NS_FONT_DEBUG=400" and the launch moz from the console. Watch for it to say something about "* not compiled in". It suggest this test in the docs here

Python is a hack
please explain, IMHO python was one of the first of the next gen languages that didin't feel like a horrible hack, but I am interested in why you think that.
Perl is ugly
True, but I have not seen a language that is as instantly usefull. A ten line perl script can do thnigs that a hundren line C program cannot. (and if you are careful, you can read it in the morning)
Exaclty, I just sat there ask asked "Why?". I read it agian, assuming that I had missed something important... nope, still doean't make any sense.

1. How does one know that they would excel in pure mathematics?
HS/Lower Division math cources are nothing like upper division/ grad level courses. What lower division skills are usefull/needed in pure mathematics?
2. What about just teaching?
Are there any stories here on/. about people who got a M.{S | A}/Phd and have been happy at the Community College/High School Level
As I stated in a previous post I have none of the requirements that people listed (Tier I school, 1600 SAT, Published work) but I have a love of Mathematics and teaching (and computers). Is there a life in this?
Are you in the math department at mudd? Mudd is a really highly ranked (as far a math is concerned) and on top of that really small. (kind of erie when you come from a big public U. I swear if I walk around the CMCs feels like everybody knows that you don't go there:) ) Do you know how competitive it is for people who are more teacher than researcher? (ie. the cal state's)
Well I am a junior math major at a not so pristegious university and I would say that I am in the same boat. I posted a topic similar to this on the alt.math newsgroup and I got about 50/50 = "go for it" / "Stick w/ computers and keep math as a hobby"
If I were you I would take a few more classes until I make a lifelong commitment. Math is one of those subjects where the upper division work differs greatly from most of what you see in ugrad/hs.If that hasn't scared you enough then try the AMS Job Search just to see what type of positions seem to be open in your state.
Also (although you seem quite gung ho about theoretical research) keep your mind open about other subjects for your graduate degree. Bioinformatics departments seem to want mathematicians at least here at UCLA. Not to mention if you read in last months issue of AMS's "Notices" (would link but unless you are behind a a school's firewall you can't view it) they have an article about the shortage of Phd's in Math Ed. (which is more cognitive science than math). So, I know where you are comming from. Pure Mathematics is quite a leap of faith but it's one that I am {smart|stupid} enough to take.
It doesn't combine the two, rather you first apply the O(1) sched. then this patch. I am running this combo on 2.4.18-rc3. I would bet that it would apply cleanly to rc4. (you can test this with "patch --dry-run") So grab the last O(1)
here and then the rml preempt patch.
>If Mono kills Gnome (or better: makes Gnome >obsolete), why would that be something bad?
First of all, the fear is not in making GNOME obsolete, the fear is that the patent issues could make free software impossible. If the whole desktop is based on this fragile deck of cards and it blows up, then linux would really be set back.
The funniest thing is when people think that distributed computing is new. Like I have said before, the most interesting aspect of.NET is the multi-language VM (if it works), not the stupid RPC. RPC has been done a thousand ways til sunday.
I do have respect for Miguel, but programming in the days of the DMCA is risky buisness. All we need is for free (collabrative) software to die a second time, because we got a little too trusting. (or a little to greedy for features).
I hate saying this because it is cliche, but he is a free (*libre*) software advocate. Not for making all software free (*gratis*). Yeech, I feel so stupid, but the newbies need the information.
That's true. I wonder why nobody has tried to impliment more languages on top of the JVM. (Jython is the only that I can think of). The multi-language same runtime is the most exiting part of equation. (Python, Perl, Java are all multi platform)
The running of.NET on other platforms might actually be what M$ wants. They see the OS becomming a commodity. This way they direct the usage of an application wheather or not it runs on windows
independent of wheather or not CIL is the right way to do it, it is a new concept (probably not a new "concept" but rather the first implementation of the concept) Where java = { 1 language => n platforms], CIL = [ n languages => n platforms ] Now I really don't know if this is the reality but you do have to admit that it does pick "up where Java left off."
