Possibly the biggest reason very little is known about historic Egyptian culture is that they used papyrus, which has a nasty tendency to "dissolve" in water. All that was left after a while was carved stone.
Open reel recorders are still in wide use and will be for some time still. This is just one plant (granted, the last one in the US) laying off its employees and going through Chapter 11 restructuring.
I have a few open reel recorders that get regular use, including a fairly new (less than ten years old) Tascam unit.
Analog audio recording is similar to motion picture film (I have some cameras for that, as well) - digital (so far) just can't compare. There's a special magic to it that can't be replaced.

It was mostly Hoover and the FBI who identified the "Communist sympathizers". McCarthy asked them for information. When McCarthy started attacking the president (Eisenhower) and the US Army, in 1954, Hoover felt he would be threatened and stopped providing information.
Joe just thought it was a good story and a way to get some attention. It WAS a circus, and a HUGE waste of resources.
Also, McCarthy was the fourth member in the history of the US Senate to be censured, in December of 1954.
In my town a lot of the traffic lights are set to do the red/yellow flashing during certain times (usually late night/early morning), then go back to "normal" in time for the morning traffic.
Typing on a Dvorak-layout keyboard feels much better and puts less stress on the hands and such, at least in my opinion. It's also easier (more fun) to learn, as many words can be made with just two or three fingers on the home row.
The point of a boycott is to reduce a company's income by not buying its products. The people providing income to EV1 are those purchasing hosting from them. Boycott those companies and they'll be forced to stop providing income to EV1.
When I was a kid, I used to make "unauthorized copies" of lots of programs for my Commodore 64 (I don't do that anymore... I mostly use Free Software or buy the few things I can't get as Open Source).
Wow. I think it's time to upgrade. There's so much more software available for the 8086 computers these days.:-)
Amen. This is the same reason people will pay large admission prices to sit in a mega-multiplex with an out of focus movie, exit lights shining on the screen, sound out of sync, picture not framed properly...
People are used to these things from watching a big-budget hollywood movie that cost millions of dollars and took years to make. They're going to have even lower expectations of a live performance.
I work in a theater built in 1925 and we do our best to keep it as professional and great as it was when it opened and our audience have really grown to appreciate it.
I was installing track lighting in an office with a suspended ceiling. Once in a while I would get a pretty nice jolt. Took all day to figure out what was going on. Turned out to be a telephone cable had shorted to the metal ceiling grid and where the paint was worn away it would shock.
I guess it could be a neat feature... just plug your telephone into the ceiling wherever you want:-)
I once stuck a 9 volt in my pocket, not thinking about until a while later when I was sitting down and it shorted through the change in my pocket. It got hotter and hotter and I thought I was going crazy until I checked my pocket and found a very warm battery.
How did you manage that? Do you have a copy of the entire US Code? I've read some of the PARTRIOT Act but quickly realized that nearly everything in it was referencing single word changes to hundreds of laws.
Often major pieces of GPL licensed software is offered under other licenses to suit various needs. If you have a need for that software talk to the developers about licensing it.
Of course, they're probably going to charge for it, but that's what the commercial software business is about. Us poor programmers have to eat somehow.
Gnoodles!

Pro is +4 while consumer is -10.
Deja vu...
Yeah, but the 1s keep getting stuck in my nose.
But where do you find analog media that'll beat 2" mag on a 16 track Struder?
As far as I know, it's pretty much impossible to get mag tape wider than 2" these days.

I thought I won when I came in first!
This could explain things...
It looks more like a turtle in a pair of poorly drawn overalls, and that's not as funny.
I think slashdot needs an "It's funny, laugh" icon for posts.
If I recieve draft papers I'm going to send my videos!

Word Perfect has been very popular in the legal field for quite some time. Mostly because you can still read documents from years ago with no problem.

As I have already pointed out multiple times, I don't use GPL'd code so stop telling me not to use it.
Uhm... so... uhh... why are you arguing about it?
My brain is about to explode.
