I think that land-mine plant could have an extra benifit - if countries who refuse to sign land-mine bans continue to use them (COUGH USA COUGH) someone needs to fill a plane with these seeds and drop them everywhere they think land mines are being used - but not after the war, during the war! render them totally useless as a weapon by revealing their locations days after they have been set! Although the plant still seems a little creepy...
They're screwing themselves over - people are still using Newtons and loving them, the iPod is now the _only_ mp3 player (even a Rio is now just a cheap knock off) Apple has the power to create the best PDA and the best tablet and anything in-between and they're missing their chance...
If Apple released a tablet computer (oops sorry, can't use the English word 'Tablet' anymore its owned by MS) i think they'd take the market - make it a little bit smaller tho and im sure they would manage to fit a slide-out keybord in there too!
lol i can barely tell if this is sarcastic/troll or what, but yeah, they are humans too even if they don't have much to contribute to society and judge-dredd vigilante justice attitudes are no substitute for a court, no matter how bureaucratic it is. Theres a big difference between someone protecting their home and a red-neck hic shouting 'you gots urself 3 seconds to geeet off ma' land!'
i.e in the UK the right for you to kill a trespasser outright for any reason is questionable because human life is more important than your TV. I agree it needs clearing up and you definitely need to be able to protect yourself without the fear of getting into trouble for it even in the extreme case where they end up dead but i don't think you should be allowed to kill someone just because they're in your house and i don't think the police should be going round telling people that "if the theif is dead there can only be one side to the story wink wink". Also in built up areas the use of guns becomes more dangerous as stray bullets going out of windows etc can end up anywhere. As always the best solution is to a) create a society where people are less likely to want/need to steal, b) let the police handle it if possible and c) stick together with your neighbours watch out for each other with non-leathal weapons and PS2's

This was back in March according to the article so GTA:SA wasnt out yet! (must have been a previous one) The story is in the news because they just got sentenced to around 5 years each - kind of like a darwin award they're gonna get the piss taken out of them in jail.
I really hope these 'agreements' havnt screwed the system up so its totally useless, as far as im concerned Europe needs the exact same benifits that the US gets in any deals, the only things that really should be agreed on are frequencies/positions so that both systems can work properly and blackspots on key US targets in return for blackspots on European targets. Apart from that, the US have to grow up and accept that theres going to be a better system out there that they don't have the keys to, and if they want any say in it then they'll have to ask nicely. I think this is a good project - Europe doesnt have any problems with the US and we'd like to keep it that way but we have to be independent too, im sure the US can understand that concept.
Why should that piss you off? As a citizen of the US, I absolutely DO NOT want a third party to be able to accurately aim a missile at the White House, the Capitol, or a nuclear power plant. These are military assets, not GPL code for the benefit of mankind (the universal GPS was a side benefit, not the purpose).
Fine, well you can have that luxury when you give Europe something in return - eg a GPS blackspot over some of our important buildings - thats fair right?
In the end theres no right or wrong way to do it - its just a sport where you watch people drive cars around a track so really its up to the fans. Im guessing half the fans want it to be about the car and half about the driver...
In the end the technology will hit a wall, F1 is already pretty regulated as to what you are and arn't allowed to put in your car and other sports are probably similar or will bring in more rules, so eventually everyone will have pretty much the same car because they just cant tweak it any more under the rules and it will be all down to the drivers.
What you need to do if you're the admin at a big company is go around one morning before anyone gets in and have a quick look for post it notes, log in to any account you see and stick a big fat message for them saying "your data has been stolen, you're in deep shit" (oh and take the postit) then sit back and laugh at all the near heart-attacks you create (probably a good idea to clear this with your boss first). Most people will realise what they are doing wrong and stop writing their passwords down. I think in an office environment where people trust eachother and have their own desks you have to accept abit of lax security, aslong as no-one can get into the building its not that big a deal. Passwords for public servers etc should be kept tight though - if someone does get in and steal your customers data you're liable under the Data Protection Act i think..
I find laptops pretty useless, you're not even supposed to use it on your lap because it gets too hot anyway and jogging the harddrive isnt a great idea. As a portable desktop they are ok, except track-pads are the most unusable peice of shit i've ever seen - i can master accurate shooting on a PS2 controller, but ive yet to actually use a track pad without going insane. So you need a mouse. I consider keyboards as consumables, i buy a cheap one every few months and abuse it and my cheap keyboards always feel fine. Laptop keyboards are cramped and shitty. Changing them isnt easy or cheap, nore is tipping out the usual crap that gets in it, and you're afraid to bash it too much because the whole thing seems to delicate. Which brings me to my last point - you can't actually naturally use something unless you feel you can be careless and abusive. I need to be able to atleast have a cup of coffee next to something without having to worry about it falling over and destroying something expensive. My phone on the other hand has been dropped and cracked so many times its like a wallet, im not scared of breaking it, same with my old pocket PC, so i can use these things without some insane degree of safety - everytime i use my laptop (its from work) i feel i need to be extra careful and make sure all cups are outside a 4 foot radius and if i move it there must be total concentration as i carefully check every step i take. Its not something you can use unless you can abuse it. And just to make this on topic - its not something you can use unless you can put it on your lap without worrying about your tackle.
Crack them both, then keep the cracks secret and decide which format is the crappiest and release its crack, the corporations will team up to make the other format win and then you can release that crack too...
The masses will pay for 128kb and like it, you won't have much of a choice unless they give you one. CD just happened to be decent quality uncompressed music because that was the state of technology back then, the music industry is going to see two markets in the future - the cheep(er) low-quality compressed market where you buy online or in bulk from a shop and the high-quality super-expensive market where you can get uncompressed 96k 24-bit disks for use in broadcasting etc. that means the higher quality versions will be going way way up in price.
its MP3. Seriously, what other format even comes close to being supported by _all_ digital music players (ie 'mp3' players) and all players of the past (mine is 5 years old). What format works on just about every platform and most DVD players? what format do millions of people have entire music collections stored in? Switching to another format is going to take a long time and mp3 will be sticking around like VHS for allot longer. People will still be calling any new format an 'MP3' for decades because this is the winning format.
No, a protection racket would be if _they_ charged you to remove the malware that _they_ had installed. This is supply and demand. You're body needs cafine - you buy coffee, your addicted to computer games - you buy computer games, the radio sticks a stupid reused melody in your head - you buy the song. 1000's of people are injured from a terrorist attack - you charge paramedics 3 times the price for a crate of water. etc...
Which is exactly the sort of attitude that lets kids get their legs blown off - nice one! i feel we've gone around in a complete circle..
Totally, chicks dig rich guys with Apples and you could probably use it for taking notes or something!
Fuck yourself right off, limey! If some douchebag steps into my house without permission, I've got every right to blow his fucking head off.
ROFL! Your honour, I rest my case.

Cool! Know where i can see a picture of glowing powerlines??
Also windfarms look like shit and no-body wants to live near them.

this screams to be used for telemetry feedback.
[Thinks about hourly Windows CE crash and flying an RC plane].. NO IT BLOODY DOESNT!
