Really. Wow. Another Corporation gives up its ideals for a good bottom line. Don't mess with the paying customers. I'll bet they let Real.com off easy. I don't wonder that people think the government can do a better job, after all, they don't care about bottom line.
Needless to say, it took finding the right woman online. (Duh. Spent the last 5 years online.) She decided to move down here while we dated and got married eventually. It is possible.
Why my mice keep forgetting to do their chores! It's those cell phones they got! Dang... If I would have know this, I would have insisted on personal 2way radios. Or Maybe CB Raido's...
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. This is a good example.
But then again, I do believe this will spur the Industry to do a better job, which will inspire more creative hacking, which will inspire better security... Benefits for all.
Granted, I recall trying v4.0 via floppy. Future Brother in Law brought over a box of 50 floppies and said "You won't need the 12 or so with xwindows..."
Now it comes on a DVD. Odd that this is the same system you can install on a matchbox sized server.
About the only interesting thing is that they are remaking Castle Wolf, not the 3d thing.
I am worried that given this guys lack of contact with reality it will make the game worse that this Kingpin sounds like. I mean, if you want reality, go outside. If you want to know, go talk to some Holocaust survivors or Vets who made it past D-Day.
On the other hand, he is perfect fodder for a typical media "______ is turning our kids into agents of Satan" story. You all know the hype, it was Rock, Sex, back to Rock, computers, arcade games, computer games, Role-playing, computer role-playing... Geez... I'm surprised they didn't say playing "Pong" turned us into mush heads. He loves violence, calls it "realistic" and uses those excuses to make things violent. And the reporter uses him to make another story on how we are all going to turn into Satans minions.
They should just shut up and develop the chipset. But no, they had to get cute and organise a mass market deluge of new stuff, when really they were selling everyone a "pig in a poke". Serves them right.
Wouldn't they first have to prove that they'd been actually harmed financially? They've already got a big PR black eye. But that's not going to interest a judge. I doubt seriously they'd get far, so if there was a way to just tell them that this was a "joke" or something similar, they'd probably get it.
I'll be cynical and say that if he was the head of a larger firm, say $10Million+ per year, he could get in with just a wink. Money does talk.
I'm just wondering how he makes legally binding deals? If I recall Business Law right, he couldn't have incorporated without being legally declaried an adult. If he's 17, and the company takes a nose dive or something, it's Dad who gets to fed off ravenous lawsuits and creditors despite being incorporated while junior can just wait until 18, and try again scot free. Also techincally, he can't make a business deal. I could make a big deal with him, get all the goods/services and then not fulfill my half of the contract. Courts might decide since he can't make the call, the deal never happened.
I think he should, or can be allowed on the floor, but any deal making would have to be with Dad.
Okay, so, this is either a world class editoral error ("What? You mean that's the wrong game?/It isn't out?") Or some really sad reporting. Noting that no one in the Press is immune to sleazy reporting if pushed, I'm not really stunned.
The point about game devlopers being pushed to adhere to some semblance of standards is well made, generally either make up your own and adhere to em, or the government will do it for you.
it's funny, he knocks religion for being dogmatic and narrowminded, then signs praises for a bio"ethic"ist. Let's see, most religions abhor murder, and this princeton guy thinks it's a cool idea for terminally ill newborns!
Mr. Katz, what if you'd been the one born like that? Would you be so quick to praise the murder of newborns? Who is to say that this person can't go on to lead a productive life? That medical technology you claim is "outstripping" us can make the persons life easier to live, and be less of a burden on us. God forbid we should actually show some compassion for our fellow man. Stick to reporting tech issues and leave morality to others.
He gets good service via cable, so he assumes everyone will. Blech. Time Warner here in Jackson, MS sucks big. They don't even _have_ road runner in yet. (gee... wasn't it supposed to be this year? That's what they've said the past two years.) whereas, Bellsouth, despite their anti-linux party line, has Outstanding customer service. My ADSL gets.5mbps during the day, close to 1mbps at night. That being said, I have to agree this article should have been an OpEd piece or something. It shouldn't have been posted as fact, Hemos.
I mean, come on. You have Dateline NBC and trucks (don't tell me you forgot _that_ one) and 20/20. In general, the media does seem less interested in style over substance. This is typical of professional media. Slashdot _ISN'T_ professional media. It is a running commentary on life. It is a bunch of geeks/techies who comment on various things. At no time have I heard anyone in the slashdot org claim to be channeling Woodward or Bernstien or even Ed Murrow. The problem is people who pontificate without regard to reality, fact finding, or any other attempt to verify. No doubt the final report on Columbine will be reported in the media, and will spark a lot of media "debate" (not that they will even get close to navel examining). Besides, do we really trust the media? If you are smart, you haven't since Vietnam and Cronkite, who had a penchant for taping the most horrific scenes and calling it news. Liberal Media trying _hard_ to sway America. I guess I can sum up my moment on the soap box by saying it this way. I'm not surprised by the Salon story, why are you?
Combat Armor isn't that far off, after all...

Just put a small, durable computer in there(Image Recognition, targeting, et al...) and some weapons, and you'd have one heck of a marine unit.
On the other hand, it would seem you'd take a big dexterity penalty wearing this thing, so the old covered pit idea still works.
Is he a child molester if he didn't actually commit a crime? I recall a case 6-8 years ago where the FBI kept sending a guy in Nebraska child porn magazines and the like, hoping to trap him. He finally bought one in an attempt to shut up the mailers, whom he didn't know was the FBI. The courts threw the arrest, charges and what not _way_ out the window. With extreme predujice. Clearly they ruled in this case the FBI pushed the man until he did want they wanted. John de Lorean's cocaine conviction got thrown out under similar cirmunstances. If this is one of those cases, the courts will probably throw it out. Course his carrer will be toast, but, them's the breaks.
Gee... Like this should be a surprise to anyone? Microsoft pulling stuff like most other computer companies have? I was lucky in that Apple didn't consider Mississippi a viable market. IBM did, which is probably why most kids learned on IBM compatables.
Oh well... maybe the justice department will beat em in court. Hah.
Bill Gates may have a "mild form of Autism" but _I_ sure don't. Many of my very computer literate friends were also in band in HS and college. We _can_ keep time, thank you. Also, even tho I did go to a Baptist College, I can dance. I also understand C, HTML, and can dine without sticking my nose in hot food. I don't laugh at all, and do possess a good level of coordination.
I think this guy needs to meet with more people that just Mormon Autistics. Never base a theory on just one set of people. Or try to justify a stereotype. Reading the article, it sounds like he is trying hard to justify a stereotype of the "nerd".
It is sad to see the links to early days of bbsing leave us. I recall getting on to bbs's back when I had a c64 and 300 baud modem. Those were the days.:)

Sigh.
well... it did say they were reserving it again, and it was allegedly repealed in 1991.
however the phone number of the contact person on the link I gave "is no longer in service"
let's see if I can copy this right..

This article says it is legal again, since 1991.
Which means it's been legal to talk to me since I was, oh, 23 or so.

It's funny the company that came up with it couldn't fix it first. btw-- did anyone else see that wonderful Microsoft "news brief" on the side bar?
I'm not looking forward to propritary memory modules.

Not much to comment on. Palm gets one chunk of the market, Handspring gets another. Too bad you can't load linux on one.

Compuserve was there _way_ before Prodigy. Of course, Commodore had one (the name eludes me) about then.

Woman lets her son watch a brain dead show which only "entertains" similar brain dead neanderthals, he gets upset, then she sues the shows creators?
genetic profiling looks better and better every day....
Still awfully slow if you want to actually send _people_ anyplace.
