    my favorite two examples:

    Right after the WTC towers were hit CNN started playing a feed they couldn't translate of kabul at night and flashes of lights... and claimed the US was bombing afghanistan ... if you can't translate it and can't see it... whatever CNN

    When a bomb sniffing dog layed down they claimed there was a bomb in the sears tower... the dog was just tired.

    Way to go CNN!

    I've used efnet for 4 years with np problems and in the past week had to pull strings to get an iline on fasti to be able to get on EFNet... IMHO the rumors will be true soon enough

    flamebait? I see it as a perfectly valid opinion... just as valid as comander taco thinking people care about anime... just because he thinks this is news for nerds, or something that matters and other people voice that they dont agree, doesn't mean it's flamebait....

    I am the only one in my town as well I think

    I was really disapointed when I saw slashdot had an anime section, IMHO it's a trend that will die and isn't news for nerds... but I've been wrong before

    I remember weekly reader ran a similar type of thing for 1993 when I was in 2nd grade (1988)

    They said there would be flying cars and all phones would have video screens so you could see the person you're talking to.

    Would anyone care to buy my POS 7 year old flying car?

    I hate articles like that... I became disillusioned and bitter when 1993 came and I couldn't fly!

    Actually dreadlocks you "make" you can also remove and are not real dreadlocks (in a few years they will turn into real dreadlocks... but ugly ones)
    True dreadlocks form after quite awhile of no washing or brushing (anywhere from 3 months to 3 years depending on hairtype)
    I would assume their dreadlocks have formed due to the lack of washing/combing and are not in fact a style

    Yes I have dreadlocks.

    Longest running?

    Last I checked EFNet Dalnet and Undernet used to be one, but split due to ircop's not playing nice.

    I think they are tied for longest running.

    That is unless history changes, I hate it when it does that without telling me.

    The big crunch causes the activation energy for the next big bang. It is one big exploding/contracting cycle, every time being an exact clone of the previous. Life is math, randomness does not exist, because we cannot see a pattern in QM doesn't mean their arn't laws that govern it.

    actually it is a common belief that the creation/destruction creates a clone of the universe that existed before... We have podered this thought, and I have wrote this response, infinite times. It always has existed, and always will.

    $0.01: There have been clones out for ages, all you need is a packet sniffer, a napster clone and 5 min and you can have that "published" information... not to mention read the source code from one of the clients.

    $0.01: And Napster really needs networked servers like IRC so the "hotlist" function actally works... you can find people without reconnecting nonstop.

    in agricultural areas, such as where I used to live in Indiana, the moon turns deep red pretty often when on the horizon due to excessive amounts of dust in the air from farming and the angle at which you are viewing the moon (similar to why sunsets are redish). Not too out of the ordinary unless you are in an urban area.

    is it just me... or did moderators rate any comment on this story with the slightest hint of humor at 3, or if you lack humor, but arn't an idiot get 3 for insightful or interesting.

    For god's sake, a url to a shockwave page that is terribly done, and doesn't even correctly represent the device (it shows a small box, it doesn't cover the entire windshield) got a +5 ...

    Read through the +3's... you will see my point. 80% of them deserve to stay at 1, I hope I get to metamoderate some of those moderators.

    After this story is done everyone and their mother will get a +1 for their karma of 10 or higher, except me, because this will be rated flame bait... hold on! I have an idea... a slight hint of humor: A mushroom goes into a bar right? He goes up to the bartender and says "hey bartender, give me a beer." The bartender says "I'm sorry, we don't serve your kind here." Mushroom says "why not?! I'm a fungi!." ... get it? fungi == fun guy! hahaha! +3 for funny! maybe +3 for interesting or insightful, this will get a +6, wait thats not even possible, so thats funny, I should get moderated even higher! WOOHOO!

    In short: moderators: instead of being so happy you have a point or two to spend that you pick the best of the 20 comments, wait till the story has 200, then read the articles 95% of the moderators ignore, and give the one there that REALLY deserved a +4 or +5 a point, and ignore the bad shockwave link.

    IMHO a failure is the best thing that can happen for the space program.

    I love the idea of the space program, but NASA should be in the courtroom next to MS for being charged with having a monopoly and -especially- hindering "innovations". After making such a careless mistake as last time, and now this, I predict private space programs will really see a boost in popularity and hopefully funding.

    I wondered about what would happen if a cartoon voice died.... surprisingly few people do it. E. G. Daily is responsible for rugrats, roughnecks: starship troopers, futureama, and many many others.... why do animators use the same person for soooo many voices? Am I missing the logical reason?

    that beta has been out for awhile now... my only complaint about it: it isn't opensource

    As long as the author of it does not use the original napster protocal client code, it is perfectly legal to produce, and make the code open. Not doing so is merely an excuse to attempt to hinder competition.

    Napster for windows is -incredibly- bug ridden, and the linux one isn't much better. The author not making it opensource just makes no sense, if he doesn't make it opensource, someone else will make a client and will, and guess which one will develop FAR faster and be more popular? And guess who attempted to hinder competition and shot themselves in the foot.

    It's an ok start, but it will soon be passed by another client if it isn't made opensource.
