I used to have a Dish PVR, thought it was way cool. Went through a move and a period where I didn't use Dish and I swapped to Tivo. Now I am again a Dish customer (with their HD service) and I have two Tivos connected to them. I didn't even want to switch back to the Dish units. I actually use the home networking features of the Tivos and I like the units better. Perhaps this will ultimately end up with better DVRs for the Dish folks (I can hope that any way). I wouldn't mind upgrading at some point to HD units when the prices are better and it would be really sweet not to lose the extra features the Tivos offer.

Now the media 'folk' (OK, cartel) would have you agree that all you bought was the MEDIA. The disk, so have your way with that. Don't fuck with their CONTENT though, that my friend is intellectual property (in reality, that my friend, is hogwash).

Someone already pointed out that the copyright itself is not so much broken as are the laws that the corporations have pushed through to get more control (and in their eyes more profit) which have actually perverted the intent. However, we really can't blame the corporation itself, grubbing money for their board and shareholders is what they are supposed to do. Blame ourselves and the politicians for letting them get away with it. Generally, this is it. I am a fan of eBooks, not because I prefer that over a real book, but because it fits my lifestyle better. I can read in places I wouldn't have a book handy, carry more with me, take a few minutes here a few more there...

The problem is getting the content. I am not rabid for or against DRM, I understand both sides of the issue. I don't have a *real* preference for a reader I just use what I have on my PDA (although PDF format on a PDA blows donkeys, but that is another stopry).

    Look at this:

In spite of this being an author who is (apparently) pro-ebooks, you can't find much of his published work in that format.
